A lot of girls/women are easily turned off by the silliest things though. Don't have a music taste, don't show too much intelligence, look boring like everyone else, don't have dreams, don't be creative and OH! have some money!!
If you happen to be at all interesting, suddenly that's not boyfriend material for a lot of girls. I happily have been with a girl that does like interesting people (and metal) for 11 years. She would be turned off by generic dudes all the time.

I remember when I was younger I wanted to be apart of the metal community so badly I became one of those assholes who tries to gatekeep everything. Thankfully I grew out of it. Also metal memes and tik toks are peak cringe.
Whoever said “Finnfluenced” in the chat was genius. Also, as a zoomer, Lorna WAS the first band that really got me into metal. I just need to mention this too; one of my friends gatekeeps old metal and rock bands and I don’t understand why he cares, like dude, Metallica has been around for 3 decades before you were born 💀. Ok one more thing, Polyphia is one of my favorite bands but I don’t associate with the hooligans that guy was talking about, I just love the music. Why the fuck do people have this Rick Beato-ass idea that technicality = good music. Don’t get me wrong, that’s one of the reasons I like them, but I also love ignorant af hardcore.
The "being born" thing has nothing to do with it. It's cool to know the history and how things started. I was listening to 80's metal first when I was a teen in the 2000's, then moved on to 90's and then "current" music. That helped me to understand things a LOT more. Good music is timeless, it doesn't suddenly "expire" when you are born.
Saying you don't like or listen to something because it was from before you were born is just being willingly ignorant.

As one of the 4 women who watch your content, I conquer about the metal head dudes. I tend to listen to metal by myself because I choose to surround myself with normal people in hopes that their tendencies rub off on me despite my questionable music choices.
Why choose? Why not just be friends with people who you genuinely click with

The 80’s hair metal look did come back in the mid-late 2000’s. Most of Emo/scene culture was inspired by that era of metal.

A lot of people who defined themselves by music, started making music themselves. It's a hobby for those that don't really like it all that much or do it to "be cool" when they were teens. To some of us, music is life. Video games are a hobby though (unless you do esports professionally).

I'm 46 and what I remember the most about the whole Megadeth/Metallica thing was that Dave Mustaine thought he got fucked over because as soon as Metallica got signed to a major label they fired Dave and I heard he got upset because he wrote a lot of the songs from the Kill'em album. Some people have gone as far as to call the album Dave 'Em All because of how much you can hear his style in that album. Imo I think Dave Mustaine is the best thrash metal guitarist out there but his vocals aren't that great and for that reason that is why they will never be as good as Metallica. Anyway there are both good bands who are a part of the big four of thrash metal bands. Personally I think the big 4 should be Slayer, Metallica, Testament and Exodus

the amount of times i was asked to name songs of a band shirt is wild. after the first three times or so, i just start telling them that i just thought the shirt was cool, and that i listen to Justin bieber. i did shit like that in high school alot. "i thought it was a brand, not a band"
What got me into the metal rabbit hole was ghost they are a good starter band because it's like a mix of glam rock and metal, from there I got occult metal that was similar to the vibes of ghost. From there I got into doom, nu metal, deathcore and black metal. It truly is a rabbit hole wherever you start. Yet I don't understand how metallica is a starter band. As a middle schooler but it never got me REALLY into metal, it just got me interested in 80s classic rock. Like in 8th grade I had this playlist I constantly listened to consisting of bon jovi, journey, boston and of course metallica. So yeah I can't really image getting into metal from the starting point of metallica, because their sound led me down a very different route. But I don't know if that was just me being a weird teenager or not.
I live across from a high school, and I have seen students wearing Korn and Deftoness t-shirts and baggy pants and keep wondering what year it is. I also saw one kid wearing a Candlemass t-shirt, which caught me off guard.

I feel like the reason that Metallica is still most peoples entry band for metal is cause they have probably one of most recognizable and popular band logo that everyone has a shirt of and there are people out there who don’t want to be seen as “posers” for liking newer music in the same genera so they decide to go back but to something that isn’t going to make them seem like outcasts. But musics music and people like what they like :) love the channel
For me Stratovarius was my entry band, followed by Fairyland and Kerion from France. I then ran into Sirenia by freak accident and stuck with a very niche sub genre

Metallica is still the entry level metal band because James Hetfield’s vocal melodies and his tone are the most mainstream metal thing metal has produced.
Metal is coming back & young people are identify with it for the same reason "classic rock" (or what I call old rock) returned in the mid-2000s at the time emo grew. Some people hated the music of the day & needed something so they looked back & found something they could jam to. How else do you example the Van Halen tees at my middle school in 2006.
