Here because disney just announced that they're closing the great movie ride and replacing it! So very sad. It was one of the best in Hollywood studios, if not disney world. Thank you for immortalizing this amazing ride.
I was skeptical about the new attraction at first. Even up until and in the queue I was second guessing it. The new attraction is pretty cool. It won’t ever replace GMR but in its own way really unique.
I remember last year when I went in the ride, the narrator for alien was like " you are with sigourney weaver." And then mugzie turned around and he was like " what's a sigourney weaver?" And then when the alien came he was like " IS THAT A SIGOURNEY WEAVER?!??" He was really funny I liked him
Imagine how it felt, that being my favorite ride at all of Disney, I hadn't been there since 2005, I finally got back in 2017 and learned it was closed permanently 2 weeks before!
when I was younger I used to not wanna go on the ride specifically for the Alien part, now after watching alien a million times I love this ride. Everything about it, the alarm, the scenery, and of course the Xenomorph its all so awesome
I remember Wizard of Oz being the first black and white movie I saw EVER. I would wait for it to appear on TV and watch it with my mom. I would sing along with the songs, and have a wonderful time. I miss those days very much when our days as children where we would worry about nothing
When we went a couple years back, our Mugsy was a woman, and our tour guide was a man. And she was down right hilarious. I think it would be fun to be an actor on this ride.
Lol at the Indiana part when the gangster guy has to get off the ride, the time I went on it last month he got off and was walking, then turned to this woman and yelled "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKIN AT?!" Lol that was hilarious!
Thank you!😂 i knew i wasnt the only 12 year old scared of the alien part!! Im going to disney world in october and i really want to go on this ride and im gonna try not to be scared😂
This was a lot better before the new renovation they did, they turned the beginning and ending movies into ads for TCM, and they added some guy narrating the ride.
PixarShark The ride got a sponsorship with Turner Classic Movies and they made several changes. In the queue area, they added changing 3D posters of classic films and in the preshow, it's no longer the loop of trailers, it's now just a Robert Osbourne documetary about film history. The ride itself is overall the same but the script is changed with some Robert Osbourne narration. And then the finale montage is completely changed and much better in my opinion! I would check out a video of the updated version! :)
This is a great ride, nice to be out the hot sun for a while, I love it, takes you back to things you watched when you was little, I always cry when I see John Wayne sat upon his horse it reminds me of my dad, he loved his films, just a great all round family ride, go on get yourselves on it
This ride got me into the Alien movie. It wasn't only the ride that filled me with fascination and terror but also the trailer of the film that they played during the que, alongside other films.
Great Video! I only made it at the outside of this theater and took pictures. I didn't thought of going inside, and I guess I just missed that awesome ride. But thanks to your video, it felt like I was just there sitting along. Good Job! :)
Currently watching Casablanca (the airplane scene actually, and courtesy of TCM's 30 days of Oscar movies) and I always remembered the plane scene on this ride, so I paused the movie to look this up. I last went on it back in the early 90s, and it still looks the same.
Because this ride is a tribute and look back to some of the movies that defined cinema and made it into what it has become today. Singing in the Rain, Casablanca, Wizard of Oz for example are great snapshots of some of the best movies that Hollywood has ever produced.
@xyzguy123: Are you kidding me?!? It's a theme park at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It was formerly known as MGM Studios until 2008 when it was changed.
Rip The Great Movie Ride. You had a good run. Honestly, I think the most affected people will be the ones that worked as the guide and Mugsy. They must be having so much fun at their job.
this ride is awesome one of the many times i was on it the tram got stuck right before fantasia and our guide showed whomever had a park map with them to turn it upside down and there was a hidden mickey :)
they should update this ride a little bit to include more great films of both today and the past. for instance, include something of today like the lord of the rings or even include something from the avengers (it is after all a disney owned film)
The first time I went on this the alien part made me scream so loud i was not expecting that my coach (I went to Disney for a cheer comp) did not tell me about that part my friend jumped out of her seat screaming😂😂I loved it though (first thing I went on in Disney) I hope I can go back💖
I went on this when MGM studios was just starting up. Not a whole lot of rides were open to the public at the time, but I do remember this one vividly. Loved this park.
Temple of the Forbidden Eye is good and introduces a new dynamic, but the Indiana Jones Well of Souls section of this ride nails the look and feel of the Indy Jos. movies.
I've never been on this, I've just watched it online. So they don't have the part at the end where they show scenes from all sorts of classic movies any more?
There has been some bad blood between MGM and Disney in the past so that was one of the reasons why it changed, also the fact that they wanted to cover more than just one movie studio and "Hollywood studios" sounded more broad.
I was in Hollywood Studios a few weeks ago. I really wanted to go on this ride, but it was closed. It's so sad that it's closed, I was so excited. At least I got to go on Tower of Terror
It is true that the line takes ages but it is well worth it. I honestly feel like this was the most entertaining ride at Disney. I think it had to do with the fact that I went on it with no idea what it was and I loved it so much that I went on it a second time. There are also two versions of the ride stop you never know exactly what you will get. This ride is a must.
AHfan What happens - at least how I recall things - is that the tour guide very slowly backs away when the gangster threatens them, then very wisely bolts when the shooting starts. The gangster sees the car with all the riders and figures, "Hey, that looks like my way out". So no, he's not kindly filling in, you basically get car jacked at that point, haha. Also why he doesn't give commentary, since he's just on this adventure to get away from the feds.
Holy shit, I remembered this ride from out o nowhere. I've been to MGM 3 times and i've only been to this once... It's funny how random things pop into your mind.
Once I rode this and the door after the guy hijacks the vehicle wouldn't open. So they were just stalling and it was awesome. they all stayed in character the entire time.
people have so much enthusiasm when doing these types of jobs. i could never do that haha. id be like, sit down shut up and keep your hands and feet inside at all times
terminator isnt owned by MGM and wasnt licensed to WDW to use and you werent paying attention if you missed the star wars bits, SW didnt have a whole scene dedicated to it because a few attraction is right next door
The Alien section steals the show! I hear this ride is being replaced this year? Maybe it's time for an entire ride based off the Alien franchise...I'd visit the park to go on that ride and forget the rest of the park, lol
Thanks for uploading! When I went, we got stuck in the Alien room for a bit; and since the timing got messed up, no indiana jones show, and the witch and the munchkins didn't pop out :(
Has anyone ever posted this on You Tube from the "first train" that gets captured in the old west? Five trips to Walt Disney World and I've never managed to get on the first tram. My daughter, who is working down there in the college program, finally managed to a couple of weeks ago.
Honestly, it's easy (take it from a former operator of this ride). For each show, there are two sets of vehicles - they're called "A-Show" and "B-Show" or "A-Car" and "B-Car".This can be a little bit confusing, as each car actually has two cars - one motorized in the front and one just hitched to the front like a train. The first car (A-Car) is always Cowboy show, and the second is Gangster. They actually both occur at the same time. The A-Car speeds through Gangster alley and into the West, where it's taken over by a cowboy bandit, while the second car stays in Gangster for the gun show. Then, they both pull off together at the same time. The operator comes back on at Anubis, and then the B-Car speeds up to catch up as they go into Tarzan and Casablanca. They sync up and go through the rest of the ride together. Long story short, next time you're there, just ask (politely) the loaders to be seated in the "A-Show, A-Car or Cowboy Show", and they'll seat you there. If it's busy you may have to wait a few extra minutes, but you'll be right at the ride anyway, so it won't be any more than about 5 minutes or so. Hope you get it next time!!
Brian Burdette Thanks but this was before our trip in October that we took to visit our daughter. We did ask to ride in the A train. However the other trips I mentioned, it was either a slow day and only the B train was running or there was some other thing that happened that put us in the B train. We were on the B train once when the Wizard of Oz section malfunctioned and we were all ushered right onto the next B train to ride again. Another trip our youngest was recognized as a "celebrity" during the Year of a Million Dreams and we were taken past the line and placed right on a B train. Other times it just wasn't very busy so only one train was running.
The last time I was there, I said to the gangster that trying to retrieve the treasure wasn't really the best idea. I'll never forget what she said to me. "What are ya, my mother?!" Good times.
The bit where the Ride Guide gets off and switches back to the original Ride Guide looks like some creepy Hollweird ritual. I mean it is out of place, the summoning incantation thing, the Idol and the fact the original Tour Guide looks like a Druid. That switch is out of place and my partner was frowning at it as well.
Back when I first went on this is 2002, I was like 10. And I had never seen Indiana Jones, so the part where they touch the gem and disappear in the smoke FREAKED ME OUT. I thought for sure something bad had happened! This ride was just as believable as a real movie when I was a kid (still is)!
I love this ride! It was my first time on it and I had no clue it was a ride! Haha I just thought it was a theater that would just show us a bunch of movies. But I really got scared when they stole the Cast Member.
Here because disney just announced that they're closing the great movie ride and replacing it! So very sad. It was one of the best in Hollywood studios, if not disney world. Thank you for immortalizing this amazing ride.
John Doe the new ride looks sick, plus im pretty sure it wasnt their descision to close this ride... but yeh im sad
John Doe I never been on this ride but it looks fun.WHY DISNEY?!
There replacing it with Mickeys railroad something
I was skeptical about the new attraction at first. Even up until and in the queue I was second guessing it. The new attraction is pretty cool. It won’t ever replace GMR but in its own way really unique.

Jewelsie I'm going to miss this ride so much!
P.S. If the gangster was a male, then his name was spelled 'Mugsy.' For females, it was 'Mugsi.'
Lol, when I got to the alien part the guy said it looked like New Jersey.,
@@dadocta8355 Actually, that was in the ‘Western’ scene.
RIP to this ride. Closing for good in August sadly. I LOVED THIS RIDE. I guess we will always have youtube to relive the good ol days.
Imagine how it felt, that being my favorite ride at all of Disney, I hadn't been there since 2005, I finally got back in 2017 and learned it was closed permanently 2 weeks before!
@@NukeIt2Bdone I hear you!
when I was younger I used to not wanna go on the ride specifically for the Alien part, now after watching alien a million times I love this ride. Everything about it, the alarm, the scenery, and of course the Xenomorph its all so awesome
Haha I was the same way. I'll hide. but that was when I thought rides n movies were real".
It's a real shame that it's going to close. I really love that ride man
Awesome! The attention to detail is amazing!
I remember some of the classic movies on this attraction. As a matter of fact, one of my favorite movies is The Wizard of Oz.
Great vid. I always enjoyed the criminal underworld shootout the most in this ride.
I like how the guide changes! The animatronics are perfect, I hope this ride never goes!
Andrew Lewis oof
Sadly, it did.
Who’s gonna tell him
If I was a host of one of these, the witch would say “...and your dog too!” I’d respond with *”YOU BETTER NOT TOUCH MY DOG”*
Excellent ride, and with such a great tour guide on this particular trip! I can't wait to ride this one again next year!! It NEVER gets old...
I remember Wizard of Oz being the first black and white movie I saw EVER. I would wait for it to appear on TV and watch it with my mom. I would sing along with the songs, and have a wonderful time. I miss those days very much when our days as children where we would worry about nothing
E
PiggyCraftMC DragonSlayerUnli It's not black and white, only the beginning and end…
yeah, Dorothy enters the "Wonderful World of Color" as retro disney calls it
When we went a couple years back, our Mugsy was a woman, and our tour guide was a man. And she was down right hilarious. I think it would be fun to be an actor on this ride.
Same here, but our tour guide was a girl.
Lol at the Indiana part when the gangster guy has to get off the ride, the time I went on it last month he got off and was walking, then turned to this woman and yelled "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKIN AT?!" Lol that was hilarious!
Maybe my favorite ride at Hollywood Studios. I love everything about it. Thanks for the awesome vid!
I used to work there. Some people took the "chipper" thing a bit too far, but most of us were happy without overdoing it. :)
Sadly never got to go on this ride!!! And it's closing before I'll ever have the chance to see it in person #SadFace.
First time I went on this, the "Alien" section terrified me. But, I was only 8. And a Western bandit took the ride, not a gangster.
Yep. I think so too.
Hahaha I was 12 and scared of the alien! You're not alone! :)
Thank you!😂 i knew i wasnt the only 12 year old scared of the alien part!! Im going to disney world in october and i really want to go on this ride and im gonna try not to be scared😂
Dude, I went on this ride last week and it still scared me.
Yeah, me too. The alien scarred me a little when I was four.
Great channel.
Keep it up!
I used to have nightmares when I was kid because of this ride.. because I thought all of the animatronics came to life when everyone left..
I remember going on this ride just months after it opened as a kid. The only part I remember was Alien.
This was a lot better before the new renovation they did, they turned the beginning and ending movies into ads for TCM, and they added some guy narrating the ride.
Anyone else excited about the new updates next year? That ride has been desperate for an update for years!
TheBazinga314 What exactly are they doing? O_O
PixarShark The ride got a sponsorship with Turner Classic Movies and they made several changes. Ohhhhh, actually I think I did see the new montage. :D I'm glad the actual stuff in the ride didn't change though.
to bad that update didn't save the ride though :(
This is a great ride, nice to be out the hot sun for a while, I love it, takes you back to things you watched when you was little, I always cry when I see John Wayne sat upon his horse it reminds me of my dad, he loved his films, just a great all round family ride, go on get yourselves on it
I wish disney would bring this ride back!love it!
It won't be there anymore, except in our memories.
Maybe in Disney’s California Adventure? They’ve considered it before!
This ride got me into the Alien movie. It wasn't only the ride that filled me with fascination and terror but also the trailer of the film that they played during the que, alongside other films.
I luv how Disney gets every detail I luv this ride and I luv the special effects of this ride
The gun fight was probably so much cooler then anything in the ride.
OMG I love this. I’m so sorry I will never get to see this. The effects are phenomenal
RIP the Great Movie Ride. It was shut down on August 13, 2017 :(
Awesome ride, but they definitely have to update it. The shootout in the Underworld section could do to be more exciting.
such an atmospheric ride, it's beautiful.
Great Video! I only made it at the outside of this theater and took pictures. I didn't thought of going inside, and I guess I just missed that awesome ride. But thanks to your video, it felt like I was just there sitting along. Good Job! :)

Yes, it's been opened since the park opened in 1989 and won't close anytime soon.
I like the footage of the real Mann's Chinese at the end. Especially Elvis hanging out with the Storm Trooper.
Thank you sooo much for all your videos, you are just truely awesome!
Because this ride is a tribute and look back to some of the movies that defined cinema and made it into what it has become today. Singing in the Rain, Casablanca, Wizard of Oz for example are great snapshots of some of the best movies that Hollywood has ever produced.
This next movie is one of my favorite Disney movies. However these people should know that this was Walt Disney's last movie before he died.
easily one of the top 3 best rides at disney : rocnrollercoaster, tower of terror and THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE
I worked on this ride for a summer. Some of the best memories I can remember. I still love this ride whenever I get to Disney.
Loved this as a kid and saw it for the last time in July 2017. I will miss the ride.
@xyzguy123: Are you kidding me?!?
It's a theme park at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It was formerly known as MGM Studios until 2008 when it was changed.
Ah the era of low crowds. Love it
I miss this ride so much at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!!!!!

I remember overlooking this ride, saying it's slow and boring. Nope, glad my mother dragged me here. It's amazing and so vivid! *__*!!

I went on this ride during my first time at Disney in 2004. It scared me.
This ride is quite interesting, because it DOES remind you a little bit of the Studio Tour ride located at Universal Studios Hollywood.
I went on this when MGM studios was just starting up. Not a whole lot of rides were open to the public at the time, but I do remember this one vividly. Loved this park.
I remember when I was on this ride, I actually ducked down in my seat during all the shooting XD
Temple of the Forbidden Eye is good and introduces a new dynamic, but the Indiana Jones Well of Souls section of this ride nails the look and feel of the Indy Jos. movies.
I just adore movies and film history, so this ride was like heaven. I can't wait to go back to Disney World
I've never been on this, I've just watched it online. So they
don't have the part at the end where they show scenes from all sorts of classic movies any more?
Yep, they do!
Still amazing. Hasn't changed a bit, nostalgia overload.
I'm so glad I found this video because now I don't have to spend 5000 dollars to go to Disney World.
Great video as always!!
Awsom vid, when I go on this ride I get the best people who can act an enjoy thier work. And it looks like you are luckly too:)
when I rode this, it showed a lot of film clips at the end, but nobody ever shows it on these "complete experience" videos
If they posted the buit with all those clips you'd just be asking for copyright troubles.
Aeonterbor but what about the footage in the beginning he filmed in the beginning?
There has been some bad blood between MGM and Disney in the past so that was one of the reasons why it changed, also the fact that they wanted to cover more than just one movie studio and "Hollywood studios" sounded more broad.
You left off the best part!
I was in Hollywood Studios a few weeks ago. I really wanted to go on this ride, but it was closed. It's so sad that it's closed, I was so excited. At least I got to go on Tower of Terror
i love this ride thanks for the upload

To me the alien scene was the best part
Lol I can't be afraid all I can think of is family guy lol "get back in there little mouth xD"
I love Alien but upsettingley our tour guide can't be with us in that part
so did the tour guide get "hit" in the standoff? is that why the guy took over? you couldn't see on camera
One of my favorite rides!
I like sitting in the front row!the awesome side of the ride
Holy shit, I remembered this ride from out o nowhere. I've been to MGM 3 times and i've only been to this once... It's funny how random things pop into your mind.
cant wait to go this cristmas!!!
Once I rode this and the door after the guy hijacks the vehicle wouldn't open. So they were just stalling and it was awesome. they all stayed in character the entire time.
this ride looks great. will never get there in person- unless i win the lottery, so thanks for putting it up- next best thing lol xx
Very nice, I like the cowboy takeover when the building catches fire better, I've seen both out of the 20 something time I have been there.
The Tarzanscene is the same as the Hollywoodtour Tarzanscene in Phantasialand
my dad is gonna love this ride
people have so much enthusiasm when doing these types of jobs. i could never do that haha. id be like, sit down shut up and keep your hands and feet inside at all times
Sad that this ride is fully closed now... but this was the better version. Especially the 'Trailers' montage in the waiting queue.
that ride looks soooo fun :D thanks for Showing :):)
terminator isnt owned by MGM and wasnt licensed to WDW to use and you werent paying attention if you missed the star wars bits, SW didnt have a whole scene dedicated to it because a few attraction is right next door
This is my second favorite attraction at Disney Hollywood Studios (only to the Tower of Terror)
This scared me to death when I was little :L I was nearly crying.. The robot scared me.
I wont give anything away, but I was just on this ride and they updated it a little and changed some things around. Its just as good as I remember it.
I definitely agree. They had so much more spirit back when I rode this ride years ago.
The Alien section steals the show! I hear this ride is being replaced this year? Maybe it's time for an entire ride based off the Alien franchise...I'd visit the park to go on that ride and forget the rest of the park, lol
It's closing August 13, 2017.
I wish I could have seen it
I'm kinda hoping that they don't get rid of it. This is a popular attraction and needs to stay. Many memories are on this ride.
Thanks for uploading! When I went, we got stuck in the Alien room for a bit; and since the timing got messed up, no indiana jones show, and the witch and the munchkins didn't pop out :(

I went to disney world 4 times when I was younger (I'm 21 now) and I never rode this ride and I'm so bummed I never did since it's gone now!
