Which version did you prefer? The version sponsored by Turner Classic Movies and hosted by Robert Osborne (2015 - 2017) or the original version (1989 - 2015). I think the original version was superior, no disrespect to the late Robert Osborne.
Fun fact, my parents met working on this ride! They were actors within it! They made so many friendships that still go on now! I rode one of the last rides for the attraction and went to the final ride celebration. I was so upset when it closed, knowing I wouldn’t be alive today because of it!
Agreed whole heartedly with you on that point! ...I suppose animatronics are old hat and cost a lot to maintaine these days ( point in being the buzby berkely section at the begining of the ride ...at one point that actualy rotated ect but hadnt worked in yrs!) ..unlike the Mickey and Minnie's runaway railroad that relies HEAVILY on screens ect (as do most rides these days ...be it disney or unversal studios) where on some you have to wear 3d glasses ect ( king kong and fast and furious on the tram tour comes to mind at Universal its its lazyness in my view and cost cutting Cheaper to put in a 3d screen ect ) ...tbh on a personal not I HATE these rides that realy only use screens now ect ...yes they my be modern technoligy but they also take away a lot of the ride experience with the old animatronics such as the great movie ride , its a small world ect! ...just my opinion mind you some others may like the changes ect so each to thier own i would say!
I loved this ride. Every time my family went to MGM Studios I insisted we ride this one because I was a huge movie nerd. I was devastated when I heard it closed in 2017 and when I returned to Disney in 2021 to find it wasn't there anymore😞. I can always hope they bring it back someday but I know that's very unlikely. At least I have this video to help me remember it. Thank you.
Imagine how good this ride would have been if they updated all the movie scenes with the classics they didn't use. Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Citizen Kane, The Terminator, and new movies like Shawshank Redemption, Titanic, The Matrix, and Avatar. That would be epic, and perfectly themed to the park. Instead, they made... what a mess!
@@MichaelRei99 I half agree that stuff like Avatar, Titanic, don’t really fit the bill for this ride. But for gods sake the God Father was an instrumental moment in film in justifying the medium’s validity as an art form, The Matrix while not an incredible film, was what ushered in a new era of technology in film that we use today, but yeah most listed are redundant but still c’mon, you really wouldn’t wanna see Al Pacino as an animatronic?
Never got to ride this fantastic classic attraction. So sad that it is no more. The sets were magnificent ! This style of ride should make a comeback as a more gentle and nostalgic dark ride would be a contrast to other adventurous attractions. Thank you so much for this video, you have worked wonders with the quality! Gone but not forgotten!👏👏💖💖
An iconic ride! Right up there with Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, It's A Small World, Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and Jungle Cruise.
My heart was broken when I found out this ride was no longer at Disney. Nobody appreciates the fine moments in films anymore it’s all about brand selling now.
This is the one ride that I will never be able to fully let go of. Thank you for uploading this. Lots of nostalgic tears remembering growing up with this.
One of my favorite memories on this ride happened when I was in the second row and there was this little kid in front of me asking the driver all these questions. Well we get to the part where Mugsy dies, and the kid is horrified and he asks “did he die?” And the driver is trying to stay in character and is kinda panicking cause he doesn’t want to upset the kid, so he tries to distract the kid and is like “oh look at this next scene” But it’s the horror scene with all the skeletons attacking and the kid screams did THEY DIE!?! Ah good times…
I rode this amazing attraction every 2 or 3 years since 1995 until 2013. Unfortunately it's gone but never forgotten. I'm always hoping to see disney return this attraction in another location within the disney world parks somewhere
I had forgotten just how much I enjoyed this classic ride. I knew I missed it, but wow. I don't even go to the Studios anymore ... there's just nothing there that appeals to me enough to pay the cost of admission. Thank you for this video.
It absolutely broke my heart when they closed this down. Such a warm classic for my family and I since 1990. They just don’t make wholesome movie attractions at “MGM”, anymore. It will always be MGM to me ❤
Theres no more Hollywood in Hollywood studios...The entire park was created on the premise of making movies and they take away the ride that celebrated the great ones
Being 6 on this ride for the first time having loved Indiana Jones this was all so amazing to me because I fully believed it was real. Been a favorite since it’s tragic I’ll never get to ride it again.
I remember this ride to this very day. I got the Cowboy and the Gangster. It was all so awesome. I wish they hadnt gotten rid of it. Kids today need to know movie history.
I don't understand why they couldn't have both. There is no need for Star Wars launch bay now that Galaxies Edge exists. They could have tore that down and put Mickey there. This ride could have been saved with a little modern update.
Just back from a family trip to Disney. Really isnt about the movies or movie magic and behind the scenes anymore, sad really. I went twice as a kid and couldnt remember what ride was in before that crazy mickey ride. Thanks for the reminder and flood of memories coming back from when I was little.
I love this ride. I can’t wait to take my family on it. Oh wait. Crazy how this ride was 22 minutes long and the new one is 5 minutes not including intro. Hollywood studios has lost a lot of its nostalgic fun. As has much of Disney. Sad.
One of my favorites. Miss this attraction.Always rode this ride when I went to Disney Hollywood Studios. Why Disney feels they have to take things away I don't know😢Sad so sad.
my sister and i absolutely loved this ride growing up. it was my sister's favorite ride at MGM, she was devastated when it closed. we rode it about 10 times the year before it closed lol.
This is awesome, brings back so many memories working this ride during my Disney College Program in 2008. I haven't been since I worked there but I have to wonder how Disney could have thrown such a marque attraction to the side from something like Runaway Railway. Disney owns a vast catalog of classic movies from both their own studios, as well other studios that they purchased. Why couldn't they have made it the New Great Movie Ride with all new classic movies done in highly detailed sets. Makes no sense that imagineering needs this spark from outside of their own walls....
Even as a 12 year old, this was my favorite ride. I remember making my parents take me on it 3 times in one day. Not sure why I was so drawn to it specifically out of all the rides, but I live in LA now as an adult so kind of ironic lol
I haven't been to the parks in FOREVER but I will miss this ride, I know if was from MGM so they had to close it down but still one of the best!!! Youo would think Diseny would do something like this for their 20th Century stuff but sadly no!
This ride was so much more immersive and detailed than Mickeys Runaway Railway. I miss it so much I wish they would’ve just updated it a little instead of completely replacing it
I remember riding this for the first time in the early 90's when I was a kid. I really thought the wicked witch was a real person! Also, the amount of animatronics on this ride is crazy!! I miss the old Disney 😕
Is it JUST me or was the wicked witch of the west an actual actress at one point? Just me? ALSO wasn’t there fire / explosion and a burglar gun chase scene??? Those were my favorite parts as a kid
I mean.. I don't have that much to complain about with MnMs runaway railway, but they should have kept this. I have never had the pleasure of experiencing this ride but it seemed really good and right up my ally. I'm sad I'm missed out..😢
I remember when i went to this ride and they were having a LOT of technical difficulties around the whole park, we got stuck in the tarzan part and we would see tarzan go back and forth while screaming, it was hilarious

exactly what i was thinking

This looks way more interesting than Mickey and Minnie runaway railway. Is that replaced it

Such a shame Disney Parks are going to the faceless animatronics and projections. This ride is themed perfectly.
They have been doing more animatronics withs sculpted faces such as in the Beauty and Beast and Princess and the Frog ride.
