You have hit the nail on the head, we all strive to fulfill all of these points but deep down we feel we cannot do all of them perfectly. This can cause the feeling of failure, even depress some people. So many focus upon that failure instead of holding onto hope of the Saviors atonement who bridges our imperfection to Heavenly Father, sometime in the future.
Keep striving but the Atonement is the equaliser that balances the Law and Mercy.

I think this is the lesson that you had mentioned that wouldn’t it be fun to be able to live worldly and then straighten out later. I am proof that that’s not a good idea. even when you return to the fold those regrets never leave your mind even though I know I’ve been forgiven, they haunt me

How did Alma get the keys for baptism. He baptized himself. Did he have the keys to do so or just did this symbolically?

    • @dinocollins720
      @dinocollins720 25 днів тому +6

Yeah most likely the priests of king Noah had the authority although they were unrighteousness. Perhaps they were decedents of Jacob. Also scholarly consensus he did not baptize himself

      @@dinocollins720 I beg to differ
14 And after Alma had said these words, both Alma and Helam were buried in the water; and they arose and came forth out of the water rejoicing, being filled with the Spirit.
15 And again, Alma took another, and went forth a second time into the water, and baptized him according to the first, only he did not bury himself again in the water.

@@PapaKryptoss President Joseph Fielding Smith (1876-1972) explained:
“When Alma baptized himself with Helam that was not a case of Alma baptizing himself, but merely as a token to the Lord of his humility and full repentance.” (Answers to Gospel Questions, comp. Joseph Fielding Smith Jr., 5 vols. [1957-66], 3:203)

@@PapaKryptoss longer explanation in case you want it:
      Was he baptizing himself?
The way Mormon describes the event, the answer is no. As Jesus Christ would later clarify during His visit to the American continent, baptism has the following essential characteristics:
The person performing the baptism must be authorized to do so.
He should state the name of the person who is being baptized, affirm his authority, and declare what he is doing (“I baptize thee”).
He should then immerse the individual entirely in the water and bring them out of the water (3 Nephi 11:21-26).
In the passage above, Alma states clearly what he is doing: he is baptizing Helam. He doesn’t say, “I baptize us,” or “I baptize you, and I baptize me.” Since an essential element of baptism is a declaration of the action being taken, I think we can take Alma at his word: he was baptizing Helam, not himself.
Why, then, did he immerse himself along with Helam?
We know that Alma had received the authority to baptize, although we don’t know when. Joseph Fielding Smith concluded from this that Alma had also previously been baptized. This makes sense. Why would Alma invite his listeners to make a commitment which he was not willing to make himself? Perhaps the action of immersing himself with Helam was a way of showing his solidarity with the people who were being baptized that day. Perhaps it was also a way of reaffirming to the Lord the promises which he had made previously. Joseph Fielding Smith suggested that Alma took this action “as a token to the Lord of his humility and full repentance” (Answers to Gospel Questions, comp. Joseph Fielding Smith Jr., 5 vols. [1957-66], 3:203).

Makes you wonder if Mormon was descended from one of the original converts of Alma!
