Bruce Porter is an expert on the Latter-day Saint temple ceremony found within the long-standing Egyptian temples.
The Egyptian temples are built after a higher order than the temples in Jerusalem. They are of a Melchizedek Order, mimicking the order of the patriarchs.
Abraham, Moses, and Joseph all spent their time in Memphis. "The prison of Joseph has been found in Memphis."
"Egypt was the religious capital of the Middle East."
'The Book of Abraham is a record of Abraham's endowment."
The facsimiles in the Book of Abraham are not translations but representations.

It’s not that we want to replicate it but it’s just evidence of the ancient roots of temples and the priesthood. The first Pharoah was a good man and he tried to replicate the true gospel. Scriptures say that the Egyptians claimed the priesthood through Ham although that line was cursed. The first pharoah tried to replicate authentic priesthood rites and ordinances in temples. We know this because of pictures on the outside of temples in Egypt that Latter Day Saints recognize as things we do now in our temples including the “ritual embrace” and certain hand gestures, etc. and other things that match what we do. Even though the Egyptians were off and went even further off the path of the true gospel, these depictions that we can still see today, show the ancient origin of our temple worship

Nope, there is zero resemblance. The Hugh Niblyites on here are examples of stretching and stretching and stretching...
I also see that there is zero admission that LDS Temple teachings, principles, ordinances, and covenants and doctrine have significantly changed over the years due to outside pressure. Joseph Smith said that they were received by revelation and were not to be changed.

@janadkins-pont3465 so sad that you consider anyone who doesn't agree with you as dishonest of heart.
I've been studying the model you speak of and find it fascinating, but it is far from being "irrefutable."
During my mission, I visited some ruins in Belize, and saw things that correspond so closely with the manner in which Captain Moroni fortified the cities, that I find it very compelling. Not saying that it is irrefutable, but I, considering myself an honest person, cannot discard it.
We (missionaries) spoke with the archeologist and asked about a wooden parapet. He said there were signs of one, but it had decomposed. Long ago. He asked how we knew of fhose things, and we shared the relevant passages. He accepted the copy of the Book of Mormon my companion carried with him that day.

He will open your eyes on many things relating to this and many things about our country, and the devotion our forefathers and pioneers had! If Abraham learned in Egypt...They believed in exaltation, eternal life, baptism, and had temples, and some believe the temples are of themselves temples...The story of my journey to find my eternal companion is much like Rebecca's. The Lord brought us together and I took a leap of faith. We have been married now for almost 24 years and sealed for almost 23. All because I prayed for "someone worthy". I've always had a fascination for Egypt, and it began with a 50 page report I did in my high school class. In about 6 point font (hand written). I only remember this because I was told I had to rewrite it again for the instructor (Mr. Padgen in West High School, in SLC). I had put a lot of work into it, and then later my brother and I separately were able to record presentations with C Wilfred Griggs when he visited us, as he discussed some of the burial customs in Egypt, and how much they were religious in nature, with the clothing, and the positioning of the body, with the feet to the east, so that when they were resurrected, they would rise facing the east. That presentation mirrors what was written in BYU Studies. I can't find my copy, but I think it was back in 1989 or so.

@@CwicShow It has always surprised me that we are surprised to find "others" with portions if not large portions of the endowment... After all it was introduced to Adam and Eve from the beginning so would it not stand to reason that remnants of it would be found in places in various faiths. I frankly am surprised it's not more widespread. I once had a newly baptized member on my mission who nearly left the Church after receiving his endowments, convinced Joseph Smith had "stolen" it from the Masons - I calmed his fears with the explanation I've just written here regarding the endowment having been given from day one. Additionally I asked him to pray on the authority to perform said endowment - it could be performed in whole or part by another but if the authority is lacking it is for naught. Many Church members would be very surprised I would venture to say if they found out Joseph Smith had been a Mason - this is why we must dig, ponder, pray and be inquisitive - I loved yours and Bruce's comments on questions - I think this is how the Lord hides truth in plain sight and it is only for those who care and have prepared themselves as you guys illustrated to (ask the question and thus receive the answer) - If you're not curious you don't ask nor do you care - I care and I ask, ponder and pray - Some answers have taken upwards of 30 years in their having been revealed to myself only to open new questions and then more and more. Loved this episode, the Lord is truly preparing His Saints if we but ponder, think and pray.

Do a google search on priesthood line of authority LDS and I found a link to the procedures and church email that you can request your priesthood authority from. You can even request it for others as long as it follows the church guidelines.
I would paste the link and email but my comments have been deleted multiple times now so it be related to that.
      Policy and Principle
A Melchizedek Priesthood line of authority may be requested for:
Any Melchizedek Priesthood holder living in the same household as the requester.
A young man currently serving a full-time mission.
      A deceased ancestor.

@@TheAnzianoJones the high priest is an office in the MP. There is no new line of authority regarding priesthood, only office. That was the point. Your discussion around the 38th minute is interesting in discussing the nature of God. I have recently come to the conclusion that just as there are 2 Great Commandments to guide us, there are 2 Great Questions to guide us. First is this: "Is there a God" the second is inherently connected to this: "What exactly is the nature of that God and our relationship to Him?" Upon these two questions hang all truths.

The facsimile images did not come about until the 18th Dynasty, but the writing they come from is as Abraham spoke. The New Kingdom inserted additional imagery to push out Hyksos interpretation and reinforce the Southern Egyptian traditions. Taking away the Semitic claim to authority and restoring a different Hamitic claim. Joseph understood what Abraham understood. If we saw Joseph in Egypt at the time of his burial, he to Egyptologist would look like a pagan priest, but Joseph would have a completely different understanding of the gods adorned on his tomb. When Egyptologists criticize biblical narratives in Egypt they only understand what they think some of the Egyptians of that time would think, not the Nubians, not the Semites. Hyksos, the Greeks and Romans saw their gods in the Egyptian gods, did not Joseph and Abraham also? So scholars are blind to what they are unprepared and unwilling to know or understand.

At about 48:00 Bruce uses words like IMO "much of that time he didn't look at the plates" and "he wasn't translating word by word. After a long pause he just started with the next word. He didn't ask for a recap of what was previously translated. Nobody ever said that each character represented only 1 word. I don't subscribe to the false notion that the plates were not used or seldom used and usually covered. That is a silly notion promoted by the scholars who also promote the seer stone in a hat which is a Satanic lie in Saints Vol 1.
We know during the winter of 1827-1828 after Joseph and Emma had moved from Palmyra to Harmony, PA. Joseph copied some characters from the plates and rendered a translation of these characters. Martin took this document to Charles Anthon and Samuel L. Mitchill. They concluded that the translation was authentic.
I believe the translation was done with the breastplate and spectacles. When combined this constituted the Urim and Thummim. This device (2 stones beyond the 16) was given to the brother of Jared about 4,200 years ago when the Jaredites were camped on the east shore of the Atlantic Ocean before their voyage to ancient America. The Jaredites, who were metallurgists, added the silver bow to the 2 stones to create spectacles which were attached to a breastplate. This device was known as the Urim and Thummim or Nephite Interpreters. This was the only device used in the translation. The seer stone in a hat is a Satanic lie.
    Mosiah 8:19 states,
"And now, when Ammon had made an end of speaking these words the king rejoiced exceedingly, and gave thanks to God, saying: Doubtless a great mystery is contained within these plates, and these interpreters were doubtless prepared for the purpose of unfolding all such mysteries to the children of men."
    Ether 3 states,
23 And behold, these two stones will I give unto thee, and ye shall seal them up also with the things which ye shall write.
24 For behold, the language which ye shall write I have confounded; wherefore I will cause in my own due time that these stones shall magnify to the eyes of men these things which ye shall write.
Why would the Lord help the prophets document 2,600 years of history and preserve the plates and Urim and Thummim for about 4,000 years if the plates were not used? Why would Mormon waste over 10 years of his life abridging the 1,000-year Nephite history if the plates were never used? Why put Joseph Smith's life at risk by entrusting him with the plates for almost 3 years if the plates were not needed or used? Sorry this silly thinking doesn't pass the commonsense test.

I found myself struggling to find the words as you seemed to also during the interview. Father does have expectations He expects all his children to choose the life He lives which is eternal life. Will we all elect to do so? Hence the “ weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth” I wonder how offended we will be when we chose -of our own free will and choice for His answer to be No because we didn’t meet the expectation of exaltation

Wow, the cruel God that you believe in ...that's so sad. Your God's plan is to dangle family relationships as a carrot for us mortals to jump high enough, to pay enough money, and go through temples so you can simply be w each other after this life is over.
Such a loving, and just God: not only do you mortals have to make it through the vicissitudes of life, Not only do you need to stay clean and be repentant as necessary, but now I'm gonna withhold the most important things to you i.e. your loved ones, unless you jump high enough, unless you pay enough money, unless you go through multimillion dollar buildings , and adhere rituals and teachings and principles that have completely changed over the last 150 years.

I concur but as I listened I felt you, as I did too, failed to put words to correct the semantics. I felt like he too did not mean what his words were saying but he was attempting to be politically correct and not hurt feelings so using “expectations” fit that bill but missed on actual behavior. I felt you and brother Porter found the explanation at the moment mentioned in this video. Which I think is important because I could tell you differed from Leading Saints conclusions

Allowing both symbols to work together makes space for us to begin to understand the male and female roles in worship and the mysteries of the Family of God better.

Brother Porter mentions Esau's marriage to the daughters of Heth. From Genesis 27 comes, "And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?"
The term 'Heth' in this context carries a significant meaning of terror, as referenced in Strongs 2845. This understanding adds a layer of complexity to the narrative.
Yet, later, Esau marries one of Ishmael's daughters. See Genesis 28:9. Ishmael's name can mean:
Ishmael means He Will Hear God (Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names) or God Hears (NOBSE Study Bible Name List). BDB Theological Dictionary lists a stylish El Heareth.
Even Esau may progress in what he is wed to.

  • @MichaelSaline
    @MichaelSaline 4 місяці тому +3

17:15 the question is why do we not care about the lineage anymore? The answer has to do with the fact that we are not living the patriarchal order anymore. Always quote Malachi about the necessity of Elijah coming to restore the hearts of the children to the fathers and the hearts of the fathers to the children. Why? and that has everything to do with the patriarchal order known today as the new and everlasting covenant of marriage. We are all ordained to become king and queens, and are not yet made king and queens, as we do our genealogy and the work for our ancestors, we reconnect those lines back to the patriarchs of old and therefore we will again reconnect our rights to the inheritance of land and priesthood. Right now there is currently a chasm a disconnect in the lineage between the patriarchs of old and the people of today. The purpose of the millennium will be to get all that work done in the temple to reconnect our modern genealogical lines with our patriarchs of old. “Else the world would be utterly wasted.”

We cannot come into His presence if we are unclean and unprepared, yet His work to bring to pass our salvation and eternal lives continues beyond this life. Love this. I would also very much appreciate if you could expound upon the teachings of priesthood lineage and autorithy that are hidden in Hebrews chapters 5-10.
It seems to me that there are 2 distinct ways to have priesthood authority (one lesser and one greater) - through lineage by blood (Aaronic) or through an oath (and covenant) from God (Melchizedek) that requires no lineage. I take it most priesthood holders today have it through the oath. So to be focusing on the priesthood lineage in that instance may be a mistake? It has little relevance?
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3 Without father, without mother, without descent (without lineage), having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. 4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: 6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. 7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. 8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him. 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. 13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. 15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. 17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. 19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. 20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: 21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:) 22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: 24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

@mrmeditate790 - The primary purpose of the Book of Mormon is to be a testimony of Jesus Christ: to foretell of His birth, atonement, and death; and to testify of His resurrection. There are accounts of people being baptized who are willing to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ, to witness unto Christ that they are willing to keep His commandments and become members of His Church. (For example see Mosiah chapter 18. Alma, Helaman, 3rd and 4th Nephi have other examples). Baptism for the dead wouldn't have been occurring while people were following Mosaic law. After Christ was resurrected and appeared to the Nephites, Christ Himself taught about the mode and need for baptism as a condition of salvation, as recorded in 3rd Nephi. Baptism is mentioned in numerous places throughout the Book of Mormon. See 2nd Nephi, Mosiah, Mormon, and Moroni. Mosiah 18 says that Alma baptized with authority from God. 3rd Nephi says that baptisms are performed with authority from Christ. 3rd Nephi also gives account of Christ confering authority in person while he was among the Nephites. The specific word "priesthood" is mentioned in Alma 13:7. That chapter also contains several additional references to God ordaining priests after the Holy Order of the Son of God. See verses 1,2,3,6,7,8, 10,11,14,and 16. Melchizedek is mentioned specifically in verses 17 and 18. Verse 9 mentions becoming high priests after the order of The Son, the Only Begotten of the Father.
Lots of references to Priesthood authority in Alma 13.
