This chapter sheds light on our day. We may not like the agency of many who seek public approval and even celebration of their choices, which we may say is being "shoved down our throats," but it does not justify raising up a dictator who vows to force his will and idea of agency on all people. With agency comes accountability . . . to God, not an elected dictator. Your powerful insight is always appreciated, and the lessons are always timely.

The Brethren has been repetitive in their messages. Doing the basics with diligence and consistency: praying and fasting, studying scriptures, following living prophets for they are God's mouthpiece, temple attendance, remembering and keeping our covenants, and enduring w/patience and joy. Is it kind to sugar coat and delay peoples progress? To my mind ... NO! Honesty is the air i breathe! I need to progress and honesty its the only way i can move forward quickly. And if i give someone a compliment it is a true measure of their progress. Not just yack yack yack as some people just say things without meaning the.. does the truth sometimes hurt? Anyone else bothered by the fact that Mosiah publicly suggests that his son's repentance might not be a permanent change? Obviously Alma the Younger considered Aaron's repentance sincere enough to entrust him with what would become one of the greatest missionary journeys in history.
Given the right circumstances, the son of Mosiah and even Alma the Younger, could've returned to their sinful ways, just the same with us! That's something I've noticed with myself, if I don't "root" myself in the Gospel and be consistent in the Gospel, I do return to previous and repented sins, and I again stray away.
Mosiah was a king. His decisions had huge consequences for thousands of people. He had to consider all eventualities even that his son's might turn back to their old ways. I think the fact that all of his son's declined the kingdom (despite the potential good that they could do as king like their father and grandfather) shows that they themselves were only too aware of what that power might do to them and where it could lead them, and they weren't willing to risk it
Part of repentance and change is avoiding situations where you are prone to sin in the first place. Plus, he is concerned for a whole people, not just his son. Also, when choosing a king you look at the record of the candidates to make the best decision.
Jazmin Rapley‘s discussion of the “skin of blackness“ is a wrested interpretation of the scripture. Surprised to hear you promoting it. I hope this poor theory is abandoned as it complicates issues of race, and the Book of Mormon Unnecessarily..

The Book of Mormon discusses race but not in the context of today’s culture and color conscious society. The message on salvation for all mankind is best stated in 2 Nephi 26:23. There are great discussions by other LDS social influencers that discuss “curse” as to the priesthood and gods covenant people and “mark” to distinguish non covenant peoples and the real issues of racism is Satans divisive role in propagating racism; especially today. The Lamanite (children of Lehi) peoples are definitely dark skinned. I’m married to a Lamanite woman and all my children are all darker skinned, and I’ll tell you they are not ashamed of their heritage and know they are equally loved by their father in heaven.

The true and living God never cursed anyone with dark skin. The LDS Heavenly Father also banned black people from the priesthood from approximately 1840 until 1978. The true and living God of the Bible never banned black people from the priesthood. In the New Testament, all believers, men, women, children, and even black people have been priests now for 2,000 years. It is not a position in a church. It is who we are in Christ. I Peter 2:5, 9 Revelation 1:6; 5:10 God himself has made us priests. I pray that all Latter-day Saints abandon the worship of their Heavenly Father from another planet and instead worship the true and living God, the Creator. God bless you!
