“Go with the flow in that moment” is quite possibly the best way to describe Phish. Best live band that I’ve personally ever seen and every show is a unique experience and somewhat of a journey. Their shows and fans are a community and it’s very cool that you’re a part of it now!!
Great phish reaction video...one of the best I've seen......phish has been the top money making live band for many years we try to never miss any concert
Great reaction video! Those were “glow sticks” being thrown by the way. Though Phish can be fun when they’re trading solos and licks and extending songs, what fans of the band really come back over and over for are the times when the jam sessions completely leave the structure of the song, and the band is literally creating music in front of us. They know each other so well and have practiced improvising so much that each member listens to each other and adjusts and finds a place in the groove and sound. Add in the fact that their lighting director has been with them since the 80s and attended every rehearsal since then, so he’s able to complement the music with colors and textures and movements timed to them as they improvise - it’s a thrilling experience. The lights allow the band to stand still and focus on listening and playing too. They’re not burdened by trying to be “entertaining” as well as playing because the lights provide the visual aspect. Their song catalog is gigantic, and even in a three hour show, you’ll only hear a small sample of what they can play. There are no “hit singles” anyone has come there to hear, so they’re able to make up a wholly new show every night. You could see them four or five nights in a row (or 13 in one instance) and not hear the same song twice. And even if you did, the jam segment may be wholly different. Glad you enjoyed them - they are virtually unknown outside of the states, and even though they pack arenas, most Americans don’t know them and have never heard their music.
This is one of the best bands ever. Not every song as a free form jam section, but many do. They know that some will be longer some will be shorter. They try to keep the jam to a certain feel in keeping with the song. But the best part is they don’t even know what songs they will play. They did a 13 show run in nyc and didn’t repeat a single song.
So cool to watch them have fresh ears and minds and absolutely GET IT! You can see the joy in their faces at their new discovery. Life just got a whole lot better!
I have seen these guys live 6 times and have collected recordins of about 200 shows. Always a unique performance. It like a party with a few thousand ouf your best friends while your buddies are having a blast playing for everyone. They are throwing glow sticks, I can attest that it hurts to get hit in the head with a glow stick thrown from the upper deck.
This was the first Phish song I had heard, was 1990 or 1991.....changed my life, wish you could have heard them then......the Phish from like 1990 to 1996-97. it was so good
My personal favorite jam of all time by them is called Sand > Quadrophonic toppling on 12/31/99. It's quite long, but it's genuinely one of the greatest live recordings in rock history! It's so incredible! I would love to see you guys react to it! Love the channel, keep it up!
Ya’ll seem pretty cool :) Phish definitely has their share of technical, prog rock/funk/blues sections in songs that fans memorize and live to hear when it comes up in a show. The “jams” are the drawn out, improv sections usually featuring some back and forth energy between crowd and band. They’re funny too and don’t take themselves too seriously!
Welcome to the phamily! Live performances are the way to react to phish. This was a good recommendation by someone. Mike's Song and Weekapaug Groove are always fun songs and there are many more.
Besides jamming, and giving you different versions of songs, they also have a huge repertoire of music to play. In 80+ shows you might only hear 5 Suzy Greenberg's, depending on the era. My favorite "jam band" is Widespread Panic. They have a more southern rock feel. I would love to see you react to Widespread Panic "Space Wrangler" Live at Austin City Limits. Thanks for the very genuine reaction.
The next Phish show I attend will be my 70th. Unfortunately I could not get tickets to the summer tour. Turn out it may be for the best for the time being as I was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. You should check out some other Phish songs like: Waste, Split Open and Melt, and First Tube.
Love your reactions! You two are beautiful. Speaking of jam bands.... Please react to the grandfathers of jam: Grateful Dead. Morning Dew from the live album Europe '72 is one you would likely enjoy. Thanks again ❤
Try the 30th Anniversary video... photos and video from the band's career set to selections from deep in some legendary jams. Will give you a good idea of how much there is to these guys.
They would like Everythings Right, Blaze On, More, Squrmig Coil, those kind of Phish songs. I feel like "space jazz" songs might freak them out a little 😂
They've gone longer than just 10-15 minutes. Their longest jam ever was 58 minutes long (Runaway Jim). But a lot of jams have gone anywhere between 15-20, 30 minutes, and on a very rare occasion ~40 minutes. But you truly never know what you're going to get.
I'm a phish fan from back in the day. Started listening early on, first show was New Year's in Boston in 92. Suzy is a cool song but it's always been filler. If y'all would like a suggestion for a song that'll take you on a journey (preferably with help from cannabis if possible), I'd be happy to help.

This is not the right song to introduce you to Phish. Try Chalk dust torture or You enjoy myself. Those songs demonstrate their versatility.
Please play..bon jovi blaze of glory. ...
