I was happy to see how emotionally invested you were. This is a wonderful movie, and quite underrated. Together with Secretariat, Seabiscuit was a legendary horse. There's nothing more magical and extraordinary than the relationship between a horse and his rider when it involves mutual love and respect. When I ride, time stops and we are one.
Seabiscuit is one of my greatest heros During his life he was, at one point, awarded a medal for outstanding courage. It said “The main issue in life is not the victory but the fight. The essential thing is not to have won but to have fought well.” I love this. The Biscuit never ever gave up!!!
@@kimghanson My dad knows Chip Woolley and he grew up next to my aunt and uncle in Dalhart, Texas. I’ve never met him but it felt incredibly close to home when Mine that Bird won the Derby.
The cheap seats are the ones that people with less money can afford to buy. It means the fans were common people. Seabiscuit was the hero of all underdogs. The odds were against him. He was rejected by the best. Despite everything that was against him he won anyway. He gave people hope.
I’ve read the book and it’s excellent. This movie gets Five stars from me. This movie takes place in the Great Depression, which is the 1930’s. Scary time for a lot of people.
My late cousin insisted I would love this movie, so I borrowed the DVD from her and I was blown away after watching it. It is still easily a top 10 movie for me. This is only the second reaction I have seen and I thank you. I wish more would react to it. Great reaction to a heart felt true story with amazing acting from every single character.
i'll tell you what. i am NOT a horse guy. but i also grew up in So. Cal. and as a young teen my buddies and i would cut thru the Santa Anita Horse Racing Park to get to Santa Anita mall 2 or 3x a week. fast forward about 30 yrs. One early morning, and im NOT an early morning kinda guy either, but one early morning, and i cant even remember WHY, but i got up early and went to Santa Anita Horse Racing Park to see the early morning horse.... i dont even know what youd call it, practice runs? workouts? ill tell you agian, i am NOT a horse guy, but sitting in those stands watching the horses train/workout was the most YEN thing ive ever experienced. it was a great morning. it was early enough that it wasnt hot out yet. clear skies. beautiful mountains backdrop. the sound of the hooves.i was surprised how much i liked it. .......... im also a motorsports photographer. i came back for a 2nd visit and i swear to God i am not exaggerating. when i was taking shots at a few horses that were waiting to go out onto the track. i pointed my camera at them and released the shutter a few times and 2 of them, at different times, HEARD my shutter releases and were looking right at me, and i swear to you, they were POSING for me. some race horses have egos.
There is Seabiscut and Man Of War and later came Secretariat!!! Another great horse racing story again based on an incredible true story! And a great movie!!!!!
The Great Depression began in 1929. This is a lot like 'Cinderella Man' in that it is not really a movie about the sport but about a great comeback during the Depression. It is also, as with 'Cinderella Man' based on a true story. I am so glad you reacted to this as it is a truly underrated movie and you gave such a heartfelt reaction as well. Keep up the great work and I know your channel will continue to grow.
Great reaction Biss! This is a great race horse story! Comeback after comeback! Horses are so amazing! If you want more horse movies I recommend Secretariat (a great race horse movie), Hildago (a long distance horse race movie) Horse Whisperer (rehabbing a horse and little girl) those are my favorite ones! Thanks Biss Luv ya❤💛🐎
I didn't know Seabiscuit was a real horse until I saw the book at the book store. I remember the Looney Tunes cartoon about a racehorse named Seabiscuit from my childhood, and always thought it was a made up story. The book is good too, from what I remember. I remember being excited to learn they were making it into a movie after I had read it.
IIRC the movie was well received critically and at the box office, but hasn't had the longevity that it deserves. It's nice to see you bring some attention back to it.
This is the same period in US history as the movie Cinderella Man, another extraordinary performance is the Grapes of Wrath that is set in the Dust Bowl. The early 1930's devastated so many around the entire globe as countless perished. The Holodomor in Soviet Ukraine occurred during this same period.
Wonderful reaction! I think another theme is set by the actual time period in history. During the 1930's depression in the US, so many families were starving and so many mothers & fathers couldn't provide that many men and women suffered from low self-esteem and poor mental health. Seabiscuit was an inspiration for being the little horse who was successful. Red was not the ideal jockey due to size and his eye issues. Tom was not a typical trainer, and Charles had suffered his own tragedies. Yet there was something valuable in each of them that helped to contribute to Seabiscuit's success. To summarize, everyone has something to contribute regardless of their flaws. 🐎🤎🏆
Great reaction to one of my favorite movies that doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. Just thought I'd pass along some information about Gary Stephens, who played George Woolf in the movie. While everyone else in the movie was an actor, Gary Stephens was a legendary jockey who won over 5,000 races over a career that lasted nearly 40 years. This movie was one of his few acting roles.
This is one of my most favorite movies ( apart from Secretariat ) i love your reactions to movie because I react the same exact same way at the same moment and im really enjoying watching these reactions with you !!! cant wait to get your patreon
I am a horse trainer. Barrel racing is our sport, but horsemanship is our passion. I love horses. Everything about them. Except maybe the expense. I don’t know how I’d live without a horse or 10. My Grandaughter just earned a full-ride rodeo scholarship in Oklahoma. She is a much more intuitive trainer than I. Horses are amazing. Love this movie. And Secretariat. Fun reaction.
I live just a few miles away from Pimlico racetrack. I was born many years after Seabiscuit had his moment in time, but it’s really cool to see a true story that happened so close to where I live.
This is such a wonderful story and a great movie too. Thank you for sharing this one, Bisscute. Three more horse racing movies that you might enjoy, all based on true stories, are Dreamer from 2006 with Kurt Russel and a very small Dakota Fanning, Ride Like A Girl from 2019 which is an Australian story, and the 2010 film Secretariat which follows the Triple Crown horse races of 1973 . Here in Louisville, Kentucky we are getting ready for the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby in just a couple of weeks, Saturday May 4th. We will be eating derby pie, drinking mint juleps, and the ladies will all be wearing (as Mal would say) very fine hats. Thanks again for sharing this one. I enjoy rewatching these old movies with you. 🙂

It's a classic, and its use of that Ken Burns documentary style voice over makes it seem even more legit. Hey, Biss, you should do the Ken Burns Civil War documentaries. A horse with a broken leg CANNOT recover. It should stay totally immobilized and you can't say to a horse please stay still. She would do it everytime. It is food that is sent from Heaven. Here is the recipe (but not from Mrs. Perilloux. May she rest in peace.):
INGREDIENTS IN DROP BISCUITS
Flour: Use all-purpose flour for these for the main structure of the biscuit. Remember when measuring flour to lightly spoon the flour into the measuring cups and level the cup off with a knife. If you have a kitchen scale, that is the most accurate way to measure flour. (Note: you can also make self-rising flour drop biscuits)
Baking Powder: Baking does most of the leavening in the biscuit. It gives the biscuit the rise and some fluffiness.
Salt: Salt is really what gives some flavor to these biscuits. It also helps with browning a bit.
Butter: Use cold unsalted butter cut into small pieces. You want the butter cold so that when it creates steam when it melts in the oven. This creates flakiness in the biscuits.
Milk: Milk is our moisture. It brings everything together and you want it cold so that it doesn’t start to bring down the temp of the butter. You can use regular milk, buttermilk, or non-dairy milk for these biscuits.
