Cory was using the Archery Pal app.. Public Land Hustle 2.0 coming in hot Monday December 13th! With a little trailer dropping this week. ABT ya’ll this off-season will be the best yet!
285 fps. Wow. Fully impressed. I have a Bear Flare bow from the early 80s, that my father bought new. I inherited the entire setup when he passed. Arrow build is a 2419 Eastons, with some type of aluminum filler rod that runs the length of the shaft, the broadheads have no name or markings on them that I have ever found but look similar to Razorheads. Total arrow weight is over 1200. With the bow set to my fathers dimensions 31"@80lbs, we see 165fps. I am alive today because of the animals that this bow killed to feed our family. I don't think my father ever took a shot past 40 yards, but he also never had an arrow fail for complete pass through 100% of the time. Turkey, whitetail, and other species.
Very cool, tinkering is fun but costs alot money, particularly if you aren't given the gear from sponsors...a meat and potatoes setup like you father's that will always work and produce. Your speeds are close to my longbow speeds. Upgrades and fancy gear rarely mean more dead animals...
I had to go back and see when this video was posted. I watch a lot of archery channels. I don't think I know everything. I like 17 to 20 percent FOC. Modern archery allows the individual archer to custom load their bow. Build your your own load for every bow you own. Be confident, be successful, and practice, practice, practice!
Glad you guys post early on Mondays have my coffee before work and a little elk shape of o get the day going ...building some arrows this year and this will definitely help me decide thanks again for all the info you guys provide
Ive been building my arrows for little over 4 seasons now from bare shaft start to finish, about 3 dozen now and i must say even though its tedious and time consuming to do it the right way. I truly enjoy it and it allows you so much fine tuning to build what you and your bow need exactly. I was always disappointed paying someone to setup my arrows and there was still a lot left to be desired when someone else just cut and glued in inserts. Now theres endless possibilities. And my newest VAP SS elite arrows are my slickest most proud build to date. 4 fletch PM23 vanes. 60 grain total ethics inserts and collars, 486 grains total which is my lightest arrow to date. Unfortunately yet to see what they can do on an animal this year. But in practice and experimenting these things are deadlyyy…coming out of an Rx-1 at 75lb draw, 29.5” draw length.
@@ElkShape really allows for super precise selection and fit and finish of components compared to just handing to a shop thats cranking out hundreds of arrows a day. Not the shops fault but this way here it really eliminates any sort of fit and finish issues and tailors your setup to you
One thing I think would be good to do with all these arrows builds would be to get a lab radar chronograph and look at the speeds at distance. I am not advocating for any certain arrow weight but lighter arrows slow down faster than heavier arrows i.e. increasing pin gap as you get farther out. Honestly I have no clue what outcome this will have but would be a really interesting data point. Love the ABT arrow stuff.
I shot rip tko last year until I couldn’t get them anymore, which they were probably the best arrow I ever shot, then switched to axis match grade with aae vanes I bought from mfjj, now o shoot stock black eagle arrows with half outs and blazer vanes, my arrow is 420 grain and I have a 28 draw length with a vxr 31.5, it is by far the best grouping arrows I have ever shot, keep up the great content!
Same on the rip tko elites, best arrow I’ve shot but can’t find them consistently so I switched to carbon express maxima red sd, I tried BE rampages and they did shoot good but were very brittle, so my red sds shoot just as good but are way stronger, 31 inch draw at like 525 grains shoots like 300 fps with my elite ritual 35 with my let off stops almost all the way in like 75 or so percent letoff
I love ABT! Was using a 407 grain hunting two blade fixed for last year. Got pass through on deer but not on hogsevery time. Went to a 430 grain this year. Optimum speed for my set up at 268fps. I don't shoot at deer or hogs past 35 yards 99% of the time. 58#'s at 28" Elite Ritual 33. I use a CBE TL 3 pins slider. Pins set for 18,24 & 35 yards. Because I hunt from ladder stands, 15' tall tripod and a box blind at 14' tall. I know the distances to the feeders so my pins set is dead on distance for the places. The hog place is the 18 yard shot to the feeder. Gotta tinker with stuff all the time to maybe find a new sweet spot on any Peary of the equipment.
Love the ABT, I’m constantly changing things. I jumped up the RF band wagon and quickly got off. As a southern bow hunter shot distance can quickly change. But the quality broadhead is something I’ve focused on. For me the G5 Montec has always been one of the best flying heads ever but sharpness was disappointing. So I worked on them till they are IW sharpe. Currently shooting 435 grains. In the 285fps and super happy with my current set up.
I have been shooting x-impact’s for 3-4 years now, and have been very impressed. My arrow weight is around 435 and have had pass throughs on elk ( through shoulder blades) around 40 yrds. I am shooting at 291 fps
I think im going to pick up some of these x impacts. Mostly because options are very limited when looking for 200 spine, but also the straightness of the shafts is attractive and this outsert collar system looks really cool.
Just bought a dozen black eagle rampage 250 spine arrows for my 75lb Mathews atlas at 32” draw. I installed a 30 grain weight into the insert for a little added foc. I have to say I am super impressed with these shafts and I will continue to use their product. I don’t know arrow weight, or speed because it’s not important to me, but I’d guess my arrow is around 550-590 grains with the 100 grain point.
If Dan is worried about trajectory, maybe you need a different jig, that is a heck of a helical. the smaller the shaft it seems the more exaggerated that is. the more helical the more down range it will drop due to friction in the air. I wonder if a couple degree offset would be best (especially if you are shooting out of a tuned bow).
Dan the nockturnals for .166 shafts are VERY light for a lit nock and they fit really well. Give ‘em a try I think you’ll be impressed. Also I would have liked to seen close ups and better explanations of the outsert systems on this build. Was kinda hard to get the idea. Keep up the good work. Love the channel.
I run VAP SS elite 166 and the d power lighted nocks seem very solid and turn on and off with your thumbnail. I have to shoot them all the time so that I'm consistent during practice versus hunting and they are all still bright and all working correctly through countless shots. Pretty sure they are the best value out there as well.
I like that they have outserts for the 204/5mm also I like a tough arrow. I also like that FOC to arrow weight ratio where you are running a relativly high FOC at about 400-425 grain over-all arrow. getting your arrow speed in that 271-280ish speed range. This year I am running a 230 grain arrow with 18 FOC at 281. It feels right..
Awesome videos! Now that it's the off season up here in Alberta definitely thinking about tinkering, I personally like lighting arrows have had look luck with 415-425, had a pass through double lung shot on my last bull moose at 63 yards nd took out ribs aswel nd was a only 415 grain at 288ft/s. And definitely like the tighter pin gap myself!
I bought some daysix arrows with stainless insert and titanium outsert because it was advised that you want more subtropical mass in the center of the arrow rather than on the outside but I’d like to see a flight comparison comparison vs a heavier outsert than insert
Great vids fellas!! Keep these ABT vids coming in the off season. Personally, I think your victory rip arrow is better than the x-impact build. I’m a .166 vap TKO arrow shooter but avoid setups that have a lot of over hang of an outsert due to fails and bending. The Valkyrie system is the best I have seen to pair with a .166 arrow to avoid that big overhang of an outsert. Can’t wait to see your testing vids next.
Man these Abt videos are getting to me. That it what I'm planning on doing this of season is mess around with a new set up. Current arrow fmj 5mm 340 spine and running about 513 grains with fletching from mfjj and that man has the best shipping turn around ever. Try to get as much stuff from him as possible. Keep up the great work man.
My experiences with Black Eagle was not good. I tried Rampage, Spartan, and Zombie Slayer. The durability was awful on the Rampage and Spartan. Splitting ends constantly. The Zombie was better. They all shot very accurately.

Just to update on that, my experience with the micro Nocturnals was terrible but the Halo micro nocks are awesome. They're a little bit lighter and don't require a sharp object to reset. Dan- I'm building the X Impact, and i have left helical vanes, and did not glue down the outsert because i want to have my fixed head broadhead to match my vanes. I'm having trouble with the set screw coming loose that holds the outsert. Should i use some blue loctite to keep in place until i get ready to shoot broadheads late this summer for elk season? Any suggestions? Thanks Dan-O 25.5" x 340 spine with 100 gr stainless pillar and aluminum outsert
The focus system sucks. I used it for a year. With a hard left helical the interior screw backs out. I also broke 8 of the outserts on the 2 doz X impacts that I had them in, just shooting 3D targets at tac and in tournaments. I really wanted to like it but no bueno.
Great vid! However, it makes no sense at all to use an IBO speed to determine the intended arrow build weight, when you *know* the speed of your specific bow with an existing arrow of know weight. IBO speeds can be all over the place and performance can be very different 3” DL under IBO spec of 30”. I know you guys know this, which is why you offered up this info.
Not to sound like a noob. But can someone explain to me why they are shooting for air speed between 275 and 290? What are the issues with having 450+ grain arrows traveling over 290 ft./s?
You talked about what you want for speed and weight of an arrow...but did you worry about spine strength/weakness. or is the train of thought here is if you shoot around 280-295 FPS, your spine is not too weak or stiff, but rather just rights?
I have left multiple voice messages and multiple emails to black eagle regarding shipping method to hawaii. Because i really wanted to try their deep impact shafts. And I got no response via call or email. Their customer service is a big 0

I've yet to have one not work, whereas over half of my Nocturnals malfunction and I had several bad ones straight outta the package.
I decided to try out Carnivores.. i shot 4mms for the last few yrs and im over shooting outserts.. thr Carnivores are lite but i put thr 40 grain brass in and man i love them.. i think im done with skinny arrows
That’s what I shot my bull with this year. Great set up.
Thanks Dan-O
25.5" x 340 spine with 100 gr stainless pillar and aluminum outsert
The focus system sucks. I used it for a year. With a hard left helical the interior screw backs out. I also broke 8 of the outserts on the 2 doz X impacts that I had them in, just shooting 3D targets at tac and in tournaments. I really wanted to like it but no bueno.
What degree of helical are you using?
I am surprised MFJJ did not say, Mutha Foc'r
If your arrow weight is that damn critical in order to get good accurate flight, you need a different broadhead! Not an arrow speed limit.
Dang it love the video second
you DA man!
Not to sound like a noob. But can someone explain to me why they are shooting for air speed between 275 and 290? What are the issues with having 450+ grain arrows traveling over 290 ft./s?
What fletching jig did you use??
AZ EZ Fletch... -DS
Easton Procomp is where it is at for me. EDIT: There is ONLY Nockturnal for a .166. Drives me nuts.
Firenock I think has .166
@@duramax400ci those are too complicated and too heavy. Thank you for the heads up though.
No elk hunting videos this year?
What app was that?
Archery pal
You talked about what you want for speed and weight of an arrow...but did you worry about spine strength/weakness. or is the train of thought here is if you shoot around 280-295 FPS, your spine is not too weak or stiff, but rather just rights?
Is Cory going to be on the podcast ?
Check out ElkShape Podcast EP 137 -Dan
WHY THE DISSIMILAR MATERIALS ON THE FOCUS SYSTEM. WHY NOT STAINLESS/STAINLESS OR ALUM/ALUM
They do have aluminum/aluminum. It weighs 80 gr. The 100 gr system is aluminum/steel.
A ton of foc
A focton of foc
no doubt!
I have left multiple voice messages and multiple emails to black eagle regarding shipping method to hawaii. Because i really wanted to try their deep impact shafts. And I got no response via call or email. Their customer service is a big 0
More cory miller videos! Guy is a wealth of information

ABT
not going to use a 4 millimeter
I shot a bear in my pajamas! How the bear got into my pajamas.....
I can assure you if he shot a black eagle arrow into concrete with anything over a 50lb bow...it shattered. Guaranteed.
