I’m a girl but I gotta say that LOTR was the trilogy that inspired me to take it up. Probably cause I wasn’t a fan of all that Battle Royale inspired YA when it came out even though I was 12, 13 at the time (I did read the hunger games and watch the films though). Probably quite a skewed audience but I have a lot of friends who were also inspired by LOTR to take up archery (also girls!) Not at all saying hg wasn’t a major factor in recent times, but fantasy films have a large role to play too!
Cam knows it's entertainment. I'm sure if you had him watch every scene in avengers and told him to really critique it, he would tear it up. But other archers have already done that.
You cant really blame the other experts criticizing movies because they are indeed unrealistic. I guess archery in movies are just realistic in general.
I thought it would him tearing down the actors and actresses, but he was nice and had a sense of humor while also being knowledgable! Great guest, really

They did an excelent study not only on the archery moviment but on hair too. They have been improving more and more since before Monster SA with boo shirt and Sully hair
Would've liked to see the Robin Hood movie starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx featured in this video. Some of the best trick shots I've ever seen. They were trained by an actual world-class archer who would hold multiple arrows in his hand at once for quick successive shots.
@@Thedisciplemike The movie itself was absolutely crap, but it did have some amazing archery. As was mentioned above, he was actually trained by the world's fastest archer Lars Anderson.

Fun fact: Orlando Bloom trained for 5 months for the role of Legolas EDIT: Yes I know the arrows are cgi but the guy clearly thinks his stance/technique is good so that's gotta mean something like hello
I love Cam Hanes. He seems so happy, and he smiles the entire video. Someday, I want to be as knowledgeable and passionate about something as he is about archery/bow hunting. Seems like a good, wholesome dude.
This is my favorite expert. I don't know anything about archery but he has such passion and love for his craft. I get irritated when I see these experts being overly critical.
406 Bullrider unfortunately I DMd him a question on his view on a certain conservation issue and got a surprisingly condescending response. Maybe just wasn’t his day 🤷♂️
"You can get good at shooting a crossbow in 5 minutes" So true. There's a reason they started more or less replacing bows as the default ranged infantry weapon in the later medieval period. Proper archers took months or even years to train, and they had to be pretty athletic to withstand the strain it put on them. Meanwhile any shmuck by comparison could make for a decent crossbowman with a few weeks of training.
"I don't know how he's aiming but I do know he's got hella obliques, hes gotta flat stomach, he's got the exploding tip broadhead... this dude's dead."
@Cegesh It really depends on poundage. I'm a woman with a slight build (meaning, no real muscle mass worth speaking of). I've practiced archery for years, and never had trouble with my bow. It's not a 70lbs hunting bow monster, and I wouldn't even dream of drawing that back. Most of the pulling isn't with the arms, it's with the shoulders, and that makes it much easier. I can hold my shot for up to 10 seconds (roughly), which is plenty of time to aim, secure, and release. And that's recurve, where the pull is constant. As I understand it, maintaining a shot with a compound bow is even easier because of the pulley system reducing the pull once it's drawn all the way out.
For Hawkeye's sake, he wasn't trying to necessarily shoot Loki, he was trying to get his explosive near him to either kill him or at least knock him off balance!
I don't know i always remember Hawkeye saying " i will shoot Loki's eye with an arrow" or something like that in vengeance for using him, so in that scene we can see the arrow going directly to Loki's eye until he stops it just right there before it lands, that's why i find it funny i thought we was trying to do that 😅
Yeah, I'm sitting here thinking that. He must not have read the books or watched the movie beforehand. lol Hopefully, someone was like, "He's 3,000 years old." and Cam was like, "Yeah, OK. So he's got some practice."
@@Ioliar Also they probably didn't told him that the "arrows" the actor was shooting were CGI. Orlando Bloom was only doing the arm/hands movements. :P
He is an archer. I doubt he would talk about crossbows. It's a different weapon and a completely different experience. Crossbows don't require nearly the skill or practice

Yup, exactly my thoughts. What you said made me realize, legolas bow string is clearly magical because a human, without magical powers cannot draw, knock, and fire an arrow with the same hand position as Legolas.

Arrow made me interested in Archery.. Surprisingly they didn't put him here
I’m a girl but I gotta say that LOTR was the trilogy that inspired me to take it up.

"You can get good at shooting a crossbow in 5 minutes"
So true.

@@joem6420 yeah, I can subscribe to that policy
@Cegesh I tried archery and I can confirm
It's just funny because archers are not admired for their obliques in popular discussion
