It's such a contrast. The black jackets against the professionals. Not even talking food quality. Gordon, James, and Andi are just calm and collected, meanwhile the black jackets are all running around in a panic.
Mind you, this was all while Gordon was still expediting for the black jackets and checking their food before it was sent out.
The "professionals" are just working with nothing to prove cooking dishes they've likely cooked hundreds or thousands of - the contestants are in a televised job interview that lasts for a month. There's the contrast.

The fact that Gordon had enough time to cook perfect food and go yell and manage the black team just shows how much of a higher level he is on from the rest of them
I work as a chef in a kitchen, I swear it really isn't this stressful. After the first month, once you know what you're doing, you start getting into this zone, it's like a strange trance, where you're dancing around the kitchen, getting everything done methodically, but not really thinking about it. I'm normally thinking about the podcast I have playing in one of my ears. You blink and BAM it's 7 hours later and it's time to start cleaning up
Yeah restaurants are easy if you know what your doing, i was a waiter and went through 12 hour shifts like nothing non stop no even time to smoke a whole cigarette, absolute madness but leaving with 400 in you pocket makes it all worth it .
I've worked head chef at two establishments and the only time it gets stressful is when you have someone show up who obviously doesn't know a thing about cooking and they are constantly refusing to learn. I've blown through a pack of smokes in one shift because of one guy who came in claiming to have been cooking for years, but couldn't put together a decent sauce.

Some of the people on this show are the type of people who no chef likes to work with lol they get so stressed over the tiniest things and don’t focus on fixing mistakes or doing things perfectly the first time

I gotta say after being a fine dining cook now for 6 months, watching Chef Andi and Chef James. That's how its done, 2 cooks handling 6 stations with occasional help from Chef. Watching the fact on the other side you have 6 chefs including a floater work 6 stations.. Its very eye opening.. You can see why many of the winners of this show never really become the head chefs of the restaurants they're competing for and how they just end up as Line cooks..
I’m 19, i’ve been cooking since my first job and i can say that it is much easier when there is only 1 or 2 other chefs. It’s much easier to know who to assist, when to assist, how long food will take, and there’s less room for error.

I think most HK winners become Jr. Sous chefs, and not Executive chefs of a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The prize at the start is to be the winner of HK and receive the title of Executive chef. The only problem with that is the restaurant being offered, has been in operation for months or years, and already has executive and sous chefs. The way it's presented on TV is a new restaurant is being built just for this winner of HK, but that isn't true.
But I also think most times those chefs quit, and from what I've seen, a good bit of HK contestants become catering chefs.
@@eriksucksatgames To add to that, if you are competent, it's pretty easy to manage stations when your team knows what he/she is doing. Having more in the kitchen doesn't necessarily mean efficient.
I had cooks i was taking in charge of and one of them just looked out of it. I was looking at the order and wondered why she wasn't doing anything or keeping up to speed. Her other colleagues are covering for her too much that they get overwhelmed by their own stuff. They couldn't reliably maintai n a tempo in the kitchen and gets disrupted when it comes to her station. It happened too many times that i had to basically put her to just wash the dishes instead. With her gone in the kitchen, it gave us more room and space to work around in the kitchen with just 3 people manning the stations. All 3 have main stations to cover but all 3 are also floaters when need be. If one station is overwhelmed, the station with less pressure steps in and supports a bit and works seamlessly. It's a great joy to work efficiently. With just a few words, all are in tune of what the others are doing and what to do next
@@movie0007 they dont quit, they get fired. The show awarded a 1 year contract, they ran it down, didnt get offered an extension and just goes back to their hometown most of the time. I dont think there's ever any aspiring chef going into catering by choice. That's just getting denied to work in kitchens so they took up catering instead.

Also, they're all new to it, and Ramsey is pretty terrifying so a lot of people cut corners to try to avoid getting yelled at. One thing I’ve noticed… Ramsey doesn’t change his volume on the first or sometimes second mistake. It’s when they’re repeating or continuously make mistakes he starts going off. He allows them one or two mistakes until he starts turning the heat up.

I think its because they are difficult dishes so learning how to cook them well and quickly is a skill necessary to have if your going to win the grand prize. But they are also dished GR is rather know for so if you work for him better know his dishes backwards and forwards.
