      0:43 thank you :)...
i was recently let go from my band with my two best friends without much explanation. they're continuing to actually find a lot of success very quickly: something that's incredibly rare for the music industry.
i've been feeling like shit because that band was my whole life. i'm not an amazing student but Moving Boxes (the band lol) gave me an outlet and made it see like maybe i'd actually do something with my life, but now i've felt worthless.
all this to say that i resonate with the "informed pessimism" thing. i know exactly how hard it is to start a band and even just sustain it, let alone grow it. what MoBo has going is pretty rare and it's discouraged me from even trying again.
like you said, you can't just force passion or inspiration but this video has given me newfound resolve. nothing in this world is given to you and you just gotta pick yourself up and forge through if you want something.
thank you Ember, this video genuinely inspired me and lifted my spirits a bit. you've made an impossible task seem slightly less impossible

I said this in a couple of videos already, my father passed away at relatively young age (54), I was devastated, I was grieving hard, at the time I was also expecting a second child as well as in my final year for my degree, I could not focus whatsoever but then I found Dark Souls PDE on sale on Steam. I bought it just to try it out and man the game changed my life forever, hell, look at my avatar and profile name, that tells you everything right there. I was always more of an arena fps or counter strike type player, but then I introduced myself to the SOULS games and the rest is history.
Playing through the challenges of Dark Souls helped alleviate the pain I was feeling at the time and also taught me that no matter how hard the challenge (a boss or a life changing event) you can always pull through.

Elden Ring isnt your typical awful 2014-2021 next generation game. As well as your average boring interactive mainstream ps4 walking/cutscene simulator movie-exclusive. Its a game the industry has needed for awhile now and came crashing through destroying absolutely everything. Back during release when I was about 20 hours in, I thought to myself "yup this is fucking it man." Best game of the decade alongside RDR2. It reminded me of old Xbox 360 games due to its quality and simplicity. No game like ER took me back like that. N I regret wasting my money throughout the years on games that flopped because of these next generation developers taking over and sabotaging our beloved AAA franchises. Too many broken promises throughout. ER showed the industry how a good game is made and I had waited forever for that moment to come. From Software forever!! Also am a huge GRRM fan.

Me too when I was young I wanted to be a UA-camr, but when you have school and no enough time, it’s hard to start a UA-cam channel, so, when I was 13 years old, during my summer holidays, I started uploading vids and people hated it, so I deleted it (it stayed 3month on UA-cam), until Elden Ring came out, after finishing it, it taught me perseverance, so, when I’m 14 years old, when I decided to persevere, at the same age, I discovered the Shorts just like you, and first started uploading content about games like DOOM Eternal, ARK, Elden Ring, Batman : Arkham Knight and others, and it worked pretty well, now I have 4 000 subscribers by only Shorts and I’m proud to show my channel at my friends and my family

First thing I gotta say is the editing is fire the transitions between the different games might go unnoticed but I SEENT it and I appreciate your finesse.
You sound like a great person who deserves the position that you are in. I'm really happy that you were able to land your dream job and stopped working at the one that made you miserable. And while I agree with your perspective on misinformed optimism/informed pessimism I think there are also people who are afraid of change and that in itself discourages challenge. No matter how old you are there is always something to learn and you just never know when you've plateau'd emotionally, mentally etc. I try not to think about things in absolutes because I just don't know what the future has in store, but as you said, understanding that patience can only reward you when you have taken the steps to facilitate your best outcomes is key. Then you just let time do its thing. Anytime I feel down in the dumps that I'm not seeing the results of my work, I remember that I have more today than I did yesterday. Me five years ago never thought that he would make it here. Every time I felt like there was a challenge insurmountable I eventually got over it only to be met with a new seemingly impossible challenge. Every new thing is going to feel the hardest thing you've ever done but so was every other problem you already overcame, and isn't this the essence of what makes Souls games appealing at their core? Rising to every new seemingly impossible challenge?

    • @EmberPlays

Elden Ring was my first souls game. On release day, I told my brother-in-law “not the game for me” but that night I couldn’t sleep. So I played it again the next day. Started playing Elden Ring in 2023 March after having it in my steam lib for about a month and not being able to know how to play. Now that I went through my first playthrough I must say that playing Elden Ring was like having a mirror in front of my face. Every fight and every step the game was reminding how my anxiousness and wanting things fast were playing against me. I realized that self control to make a timed move is not just better but crucial to success. Methodic and calculated approach is absolutely necessary to succeed. Looking in this mirror showed that going blindly into something and spamming buttons is not the way to look cool and quickly getting what you want, but instead, it's a way to get yourself in trouble even with the weakest foe. And ultimately, of course, the power of persistence and bettering myself. The feeling of beating an enemy that used to kill you in 1 sec by straight up just learning from your mistakes and and getting better is definitely a powerful lesson. I learned so much about myself playing this game that it is just insane. Although I spent too many hours I am really pleased I got to play this game.

I’m not sure what caused this video to pop up on my feed. But I’ve tried streaming and UA-cam every now and then, and never persisted. I’ve recently started again, and streamed some of my first Dark Souls playthrough. I only had one person talk to me that entire time, but the next day all I wanted to do was wake up and stream. Fast forward another week and I haven’t streamed since. Video games are the only passion in my life, but I don’t have a passion for sharing I guess. I’m struggling finding what my true passion is, and what I can do for the rest of my life. After watching this video though, you’ve inspired me to keep going. And I never connected the dots between my persistence in the souls game to real life, but you made it all make sense to me. @@CharlieKellyEsq well that's kind of the point I was trying to make there... I know nobody's going to watch it, at least not many, if anything I'd be impressed with 10 views, but I don't want to make a video that's inherently bad. As in like bad editing, or making the video boring by dragging out etc... I wanna make something that I can look back on in a couple years and be like, hey, that wasn't too bad. And I feel like my first time playing DS3 will be kind of perfect for that as I know for a fact it will be rememberable for me 😂

Elden Ring is about teaching patience. And also, teaching about ambition! Defeating Radagon and looking back all the progress you've made is awesome! and the best part is you can replicate it in real life. Just trust yourself and aim to the sky!

And after Elden Ring came out, i can safely say that 2022 was the best year i had in a long time, thank you Miyazaki for helping me get through such a treacherous and depressingly unfortunate point in my life

I subbed bc I liked this video so much. I am 42, I don't play many video games, and I generally don't spend a lot of time or money on them. Haven't played a game to completion in at least 10 years. I'm a casual gamer at best, and I've never played a Souls game before Elden Ring. After trying to play Skyrim, but getting bored, I took some random advice and tried Elden Ring. At first, I almost asked for a refund. I thought it was too hard, and I hated it. Something about the game, though, it kept me coming back. Before I knew it, I had put 40 hours into this game I didn't like. I learned a lot about the combat system, and I just focused on exploring and having fun. Elden Ring is now my favorite game, and I can't stop playing it at least a few hours a night. It's genuinely a masterpiece. It reminds me of playing Legend of Zelda or Castlevania for NES as a kid. Brutal and unforgiving, yet beautiful and immersive. Best game ever.

I think the best thing these games do personally is that they are a practice in delayed gratification. You don't get to have op weapons or characters right off the start. You have to earn everything. I think games like that are what are truly special. Most games have a hard time being fun because they give you the strong items really earn or through difficulty sliders and settings. In this franchise, you must earn it. Whether that's boss patterns, runbacks, game mechanics, or weapon upgrades, they aren't easy to find.
And every game wants you to win.

Considering both of our souls journeys began with DS3, I feel it so much more when you talk about how these games impacted you, because I feel the same way. The moment I realized these games changed my life was after a 6 month period of me trying to beat the dancer of the boreal valley. Now while that sounds insane (it is), those 6 months were packed with school and other nonsense and I only had so much time to play. But every time I went back to try again I noticed I needed to change something in order to beat her, and after 6 months I realized what I needed to do… lower my equip load. Nothing good comes without change and nothing special isn’t good. Your growth and talent is undeniable and truly inspiring because maybe one day I might get into content creation. My friends also tell me that it would be something I’d be good at, anywho though I can’t wait to see how much you do. We’ll all be here to see you continue your success

I honestly feel the same way, around when Elden Ring came out I decided to finally give souls games a try with Dark Souls 1, and while it’s not one of my favorites in the series anymore due to just issues with its age and playing games like Bloodborne, beating Dark Souls 1 was one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life, all I could think was “holy shit, I just beat DARK SOULS, this game that’s known for its difficulty, I BEAT IT” and I was so happy with myself. Ornstein and Smough specifically had such a huge impact on me and my self confidence, and they are probably my favorite moment in any game ever besides maybe Ludwig from Bloodborne (for different reasons because Ludwig is just objectively cool and is my pick for just the most fun boss to go back to in the series). Now, I’ve played and beaten 3 souls games with DS1, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, Bloodborne is now what I consider my favorite game of all time, and I will continue to play and love these games for multiple reasons. Thank you fromsoft for creating so many fond and great memories for so many of us :)
