MORE GAIN!
METALZONEE
NO MIDS!!
SLAYER!!!
ALL THE GAIN!
Pete is definitely a low key metal shredder. He's just trying to keep Anderton's diverse in it's playing styles. I'm on to you, Petey!
It was WAAAAYYY too early to be shredding on high gain that day!
Form is temporary, class is permanent fella!
Rubio! that was awesome playing! (see chapper's facebook for reference)
That's only because you need MOAR COFFEE.
What mic did you have on the greenbacks? That was a sweet solo sound on most of the amps. What pickup is in the PRS? What fingers do you have?
+Zavach85 thanks. No wonder Bea was shredding.
For quick comparisons of the higher (usable) gain tones of each amp, and rabea's best riffs:
Peavey 6505 10:50
EVH 5150 18:10
Dark Terror 25:15
Kraken 34:20
Kraken sounds a lot warmer and organic, but for me, considering the pure gain sounds, versatility and price, the 6505 does it. Please watch the video again at these points for a better comparison!
Pedro Andrade Thanks for the times. I also prefer the Peavey but the Orange has a sick Pantera sound for sure.
You are a hero
...wow mate thx for the time stamps, makes the comparison a lot faster and easier. It´s a shame MESA stuff is waay too expensive on this side of the pond so "Mini Rectifier" and "Mark V 25W" couldn´t make it into this comparison.
I wonder how they would have compared to those 4 amps.
Pedro Andrade I agree. The 6505 is the best for modern progressive metal, but the Kraken is definitely the most organic. It had a nice analog-like breakup at medium-low gain but still sounded good at very high gain. Also: why does the 5150 sound so mid-rangy compared to the 6505? It has a ton of pokiness to its tone for some reason. Maybe it's s a difference in the power valves...
gotta love a good shootout! Kraken won for me, (Obviously) but the 5150 III had a great pushed clean sound!
my favourite Victory amp has to be the Sheriff 44 ! But my choices are not wallet friendly .. :( love the Kraken though
I know it wasn't a guitar vid but what is your honest opinion on the Holcomb?
+Frantic29 for the money. It's fantastic
I thought the Peavey had the best strat tone and also sounded good with the humbuckers.
i liked the kraken so much...i bought the v40. High gain from the volume pot at 1 oclock, The Dunes from EQD into a Soul Food for a boost. Quite fuckin lovely. The Kraken was way too onetrickpony for me.
hats off captain! the andertons video game is so strong right now
yeah, im still waiting for the sound like randy rhoads though
Yeah man it's transforming into a music channel powerhouse right now :D I love it. Very curious how the sessions will develop for example.
Yes! I love their vids and would buy from them if I lived in UK
+SprodeZz- it's your lucky day
I love single coils with gain. It has a gritty dark clarity that cuts through a mix and leave plenty of room for a second guitar and bass.
I just wanna say, these 2 guys work, great guitar and chemistry. That strat and peavey tone!
I got the evh 5150 III since I fell in love with the almost percussive "tunk" you get if you palm mute hard and the overall tightness of the amp.
i always get a lot out of watching gear demos with either of you two! thanks!
So glad you decided to go for the PRS SE Holcomb! It is such an amazing guitar. I've had mine for over a month now and it has become my #1!
THIS CHANNEL IS JUST GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!
As of 2018 that 6505 MH still destroys. And a 1 watt mode on it.
1 watt sounds like shit.
Robbie Valentine how bad is 5? I have a 6505+ half stack and I’m looking for the same tone but quiet as a tv
@@Ottophil Still need to move the speaker somewhat for good tone but..... yea, the 6505mh delivers
As I unfortunately don't have the finances to unleash any Krakens, the 6505MH is the winner for me.
:(
Ashley Mann just got one today. such a badass amp
@@sunnylee84 it must be just me then because I played one at a gc and got a decent clean tone.
I have one, dialing it in is a whole other experience from most amps I've played. Really keep the reverb, gain and presence lower than you'd think and it'll sound great
mini high gain amp shootout with Pete and Rabea? HECK YES!
just when I thought the video couldn't get any better you add a PRS SE Holcomb? YESSSSSSSSSSSS.
thanks guys!
mini head vs full size version (maybe blindfolded)
Cedric yt this idea is amazing.
They did it now
I love how the Orange lets the 2 different guitars individual tone shine through. I wish they made one w/ 2 channels. Then I could use a Tube screamer to make it a 3 channel for screaming leads. 🤘🏼😆🤟🏼
Really glad you guys did a shootout of these amps.
Pete's playing at 24.40 gave me goosebumps. A real moment of magic, Rabea's little smile summed it up perfectly
My favourite video so far. Awesome!
As an owner of the Peavey 6505mh, I can attest that it is an incredible amp (regardless of price). It's capable of a wide range of tones and styles, not just metal or [insert]core. JJ preamp tubes really enrich the tone further. Thought the Kraken was the only amp that sounded better in this demo (at 2.5x the price).
"No clean channel on this thing" - Proceeds to play the most wonderful cleans :D That Kraken just sounds wonderful whatever you do.
Dudes were just freaking jamming in this one. I love your channel.
Fantastic review guys! Loved it!!
I'm with you Rabea there is something about strats and single coils through high gain!! Very nice
my two favorite guitar players together. a great vid guys thanks
I love watching you guys 😀The kraken and the peavy mini for me.
Please do the same for some Mesa heads (like the mini rec, the mark 5:25, the Express, the Rect-o-Verb...) or Marshall ones! (the mini Jubilee and the DSL15)
That was an amazing vid by the way, always loved the combination of you both :D
Just finished watching the video and I take back everything that I said, the strat sounds EPIC!
There is just something about a high gain amp with low to moderate gain dialled in that just sounds great to my ears. Even if you don't intend to crank the gain, try the high gain amps. The way they're voiced might work for you even if the tones you go for are not meant for metal.
thisdyingsoul76 This. I hate when people dismiss the 6505 as a one trick pony metal amp. Sounds great with a lightly driven sound.
thisdyingsoul76 Are you a fan of Colour Haze per chance then?
Great review guys. I've seen reviews for most of these individually but it really helps the punter make the purchasing decision having them pitted against each other. They were all great in their own way. The Victory the most versatile with the different axes I thought and higher wattage gave good headroom and exceptional clarity. 5150 I thought best out and out metal amp though.
Thank you SO much for this, I was seriously debating between the 5150 and the Peavey, and now that I know the 5150 cant do clean it's an easy decision.
Great choice, guys.
Great chemistry between Rabea and Pete. Keep em comin'. :D
That Pantera riff got me pumped up. Thanks, I needed that
Strat through the Kraken sounds terrific. The others sound like facsimiles of tube amps, the Kraken is huge and 'organic' as you mentioned...
Awesome! I think I might have to give these amps a try. I have been wanting the mini Peavey for a while.
please keep this series going!!
I was mesmerized by the amazing playing.
For the Money the 6505 Mini beats the EVH.
IF the EVH was $400 it would be a good deal but at $700 not worth it at all!
it is very limited i returned mine after two days and got the 6505.
Thank you for using the holcomb I own that guitar and wanted to see what all these amps sounded like so this video is perfect.
I love Pete's black strat, beautiful flamey neck and great tones
i think i'm in love with the dark terror and the kraken
think i might save up and get the terror and some cab or other.
Oh, the Kraken... Amazing and articulate. I'm less a high gain lad in recent years, but some days, it's loads of good times. That sounded damn good. I thought the Peavey was fantastic and versatile. And, I could leave the other two. Great vid, ya'll!
I like Danish Pete, he's got a good playing style too!
My favorite tone was actually the 5150 on the blue (pushed) channel, so crispy!!!
Very impressed by that Kraken. But the Dark Terrror won for me I think. By far the best clean tone of the bunch, but a great gain tone too.
I own the evh one since 2016 and love it to death, pretty versatile too.
Funny, when Bea said he already had 4 amps in mind, these 4 models are what popped into my head. I own the 6505 MH. I thought the Kraken was the best but for the price ($1100 US) I could almost buy the 6505 MH and the 5150 III ($1200 US). Of the 4, I thought the 6505 MH was the most versatile. Great shootout.
Loved the Motörhead cleans of the 5150 III.
Really enjoyed this one. Always wondered which one would be the highest gain lunch box. The Peavey was great with both guitars.
the little things Rabea plays in these vids when he's just jamming are literally some of the nicest melodies ever.
Love the little bits of Toska licks every now and then. They seem to just drip out of bea's fingers :)
I LOVED this!
I just love that Orange tone. All their 'lunchbox' heads sound fantastic but I prefer to pair them with Marshall cabs.
I'm very surprised (in a good way !) by the Orange amp... it sounds really awesome !
Cheers from France !
Love the Kraken and the Dark Terror
The orange is quite versatile ! Tonaly and Gain wise!
I'm not much of a metal kinda guy and it's only 7 am here in Canada (kinda early for Metal) but I can really appreciate watching guitarist produce that "sound". I have a bit of a bias toward Peavey amps (I collect old ones) but I was really surprised by the Orange amp but completely blown away by the Kraken. I was a teenager during the 70's and could hear what Peter mentioned as that "classic" sound in the Orange amp.(I tend to be "hung up on that tone to a certain degree). But that Kraken rally seemed to define the element of what makes metal, METAL. Thanks for the shootout..... I think I'm going to have another coffee and download some Dimebag.
Some tasty tones in those lunch boxes
Never seen many vids with pete but i gotta say hes the shit. Great player and fun to watch.
I love the EVH sound and the Peavey features.
I think I liked the Orange the best. The simplicity of the shape feature takes the guess work out of the EQ since all I wanna do is jam.
Pete looks so happy with his Strat!
There's a sweet spot on that dark terror(about 2pm on the shape knob) that's been in every video I see it in that makes me think I need one in my life. But that's literally the one thing it does that I like and I don't have budget for that :(
that strat sounds great!
that strat peavy combo was ace! very cool!
As far as high gain goes they all sounded different but they all sounded pretty good to me. Great vid guys
thanks for the c6 plus i ordered the other day, great guitar
My favourite was the V but really loved the simplicity of the Terror du noir . Definitely want to see more. As a total idiot and novice I would like a reasonably priced combo for old school heavy rock .
Probably go: Kraken > Peavey > EVH > Orange. The Orange just seems way too trebly for my liking...
I've never met an Orange I liked lol. They just don't like me.
Makes sense as that's the order of price highest to lowest..
Yeah... you know, I've really tried to like Orange amps. Tried heaps, really wanted to like them. I've just never found a sound that I actually enjoyed, despite enjoying the tones of plenty of Orange players. Why?
Adam Osborne I'm the same way. Although, I have heard that Oranges tend to be very volume dependent. Like, you have to be able to really get them loud to get the sound out of them.
Matt Snyder Huh. Maybe I'll need to give that a shot some time. Perhaps see if I can borrow one for a gig. I'm just not a fan of that fizzy, harsh, top end.
Great review! Noticed when you were selecting amps there was a Valveking II MH 20 on the shelf. This got me thinking about versatility (the 6505 was good with Strat and PRS)
I would like to see an inter brand review of the Valveking MH 20 and 6505 for those of us that are interested in purchasing a small head - maybe with the classic as a control.
Love high gain but one of the others might be more suitable for recording, take pedals better, deal with single coils better, clean headroom etc.
In other words can I get a good all a rounder based on what we just heard with the 6505 - at a cost conscious price point.
thanks guys
What a pair of great players!
I like these guys. I love it when the man with the big hair plays a gretch. He made me buy one after seeing him play. You rock on that shit man. GO!
That Kraken with the Strat sounds like a texas blues monster!
Then with the PRS it instantly became a Metal powerhouse.
That level of versatility is fantastic!!!
A week after getting 5150 III lbx2 I replaced all of the tube, JAN-GE 12ax7wa and Ei EL84 / 6BQ5. Definite improvement.
Pete and Bea are the new Rob and Chappers. Nothing wring with R&C but, these 2 are brilliant together!
Jake Adelman Rob and Chappers are the same person
Haha, that is hilarious.
Pete's tone is really good! You should make a new series "Pete Plays Heavy Music". :-D
The VX Kraken has to be the best rock/metal amplifier under £1000. So versatile, I'm even asked to turn down often at gigs because of how loud it is, louder than most 100watt heads.
The Peavey 6505 MH however is a good amp.. For all of two weeks. I had two in a month from andertons, later finding out that Peavey put a temperature sensor on the valves, so when you run it around half volume for an hour, the thing overheats and shuts down :/. Weird considering hi gain amps are guaranteed to heat up!
This issue may have been resolved, just don't want people to waste their time over a fault. Great video as always guys :)
I liked the Kraken best for clean, my favourite otherwise was the Peavey... I know that Anderton's doesn't sell Hughes & Kettner (unfortunately) but I would have liked to see (or hear, as it would be) the direct comparison with the Grandmeister's Ultra channel...
I "Gained" allot from this Video !
Thanks again guys !
Not a high gain guy. Not a PRS guy. Don't play in drop tunings (apart from Eb or the odd open G or what have you). Don't care cause it's Pete and Rabea. I'll watch anything that has either of these guys in it.
Mick and Pete, Rob and Lee, Rabea and Matt, Nathan and Lee,I fail to see how Andertons contains so much talent under one roof. If I fly over from the US, can I just drop in one day and hope to encounter any of these folks?
Fantastic playing guys, I really enjoy these videos. You guys should seriously think about subscription content.
Oh, and if I had to buy, I'm taking the Kraken. The folks at Victory amps are just killing it. The Sheriff and Duchess are fantastic amps.
I have a 6505 mh running into a Marshall mode four oversized 4x12 cabinet. I have a few guitars. Fender strat, Gibson les Paul studio, a wylde audio with Emg 81/85's. and a few other guitars. It's a beast of an amp
9:01 and 9:30 for the best tones in the whole video. Savage with a Strat, Pete!
I was surprised that the 5150 III was the one I liked the least. That Peavey blew me away! Totally gonna get it for the studio. That Victory amp is great and incredibly natural-sounding. The "clean" sound I really like because it reminds me of clean low wattage valve amps that crack up when they are full volume. Orange is Orange and will always have the Orange sound (I own 2; mega happy). Nice Strat sound out of that Peavey, still amazed by it!!!
Bea, you're a BEAST man!
Holy crap. That was definitely high gain. Nice!!
Great vid guys...
I'm still in awe of the Kraken but the Peavey isn't bad either (tone wise and especially price wise).
Still, other than Rabea's showcasing of the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 40 (also a killer amp), the Kraken is still the WIN.
can we get an 2019 updated video same concept
4:09 No one expects the Danish enquisition
Digging these vids guys. Do you have access to any Diezel ,Freidman or Bogner amps to shoot out?
Great video guys! Would love to see a lower price high gain head shootout. Maybe up to £200. Suggestions being Orange Micro Dark, Peavey 6505 Piranha, Blackstar HT 1 Metal and Randall RD1.
I was sold on 5150 (and later 6505) by the first guy I heard playing the original one live, Jagori Tanna of I Mother Earth. He was playing a Strat into one live, the tone was AMAZING. Sometimes I think these amps are a bit dark for humbuckers, but sound great on singles.
I'd love to see an update vid featuring a bassbreaker 15, Jim Root Terror, a 5150lbx ii, and a red dwarf
Can you guys do a video on best delays/amps for swells and ambient sounds. That's huge in the US. Huge fan here!!!! Thanks
I'm surprised at how good all these amps sound, especially the 6505. However, the Victory amp was absolutely superb.
I think I'm in love with the Dark Terror
Jahz for less than $200 it's insanely good. Love orange.
Andrew Teller think you’re getting confused with the micro dark, the one used in the vid is about £400, still incredible value for money,,
Loved the Peavey the best honestly!
That Peavey sounds fucking brilliant on the lead channel. It's very good value for money too and has a heap of features. I reckon I'd be pretty happy owning it.
When Rabea picked the Mark Holcomb Signature SE it made me so happy
Pete's a bad ass guitar player. I wanted to hear him play more "the wind cries marry"!
