Chris. Thanks for this. I fond what is helpful is equally to focus on posture. And looking at some evidence from athletic motion it seems that being more vertical at impact helps rather than leaning back or slightly left in my case (being left handed) or leaning forward.
Great tips! Super helpful. Exactly what I've been wanting to work on. Thank you!
Great tip Chris. Really like the video presentation. Im taking lessson and my swing coach was talking about strike. thanks
Thanks Chris ! Great answer, great tips. And, you know what, I do have a tee peg :)
I love the idea of working on skills and with feedbacks. Seems to definitely be the best and quickest way to make progress. Even being able to miss or touch the tee peg on purpose will mean our brain will be able to help us doing the right move on the course. (By the way, weather is not better in northern France 😂)
I don't use the tee peg, but always focus on that forward point when on mats. Great drills!
Love the 2 options. Thanks Chris.
Thanks for the great tip Chris, its the first thing i wil by tomorrow, because the weather in the Netherlands is bad to.
Great stuff I struggle in wet conditions with taking to bigger divots but this will help I thinks for summer
Thanks for the great tips Chris!
I have a Fatplate and it really has improved my strike. Good stuff Chris.
Excellent tips for hitting off of a mat, thanks!
Thank you Chris, the tee drill works well for me.
I've been practicing all winter on a golf mat and just began realizing exactly what you're explaining in the video recently. This video is so helpful to try and help improve ball striking on the mat. Thanks for your help!
Thanks Josh
Great tips Chris, simple, inexpensive and very effective for those of us struggling in UK winter.
also in german winters😂
Nice and practical drills. Thank you.
Great video. Never have seen a video about hitting off mat technique.
the tee peg in front is a really good new idea. Thanks a lot. by the way: the fat plate item is really working too.
Thanks for these tips Chris.
Great video! What about a tee just behind the ball and just after?
Great drill---- Thank you!
Hi, just been watching the attack angle video, very useful, I have a descending strike of about 4 degrees with irons, I float around 2 handicap and generally strike irons well, however the ball flight is pretty low with all but short irons, having said that I don't struggle with distance. I was toying with upping the lofts 2 degrees, what is your thought on that.
Exactly what I was looking for.
BTW, finally got a video of my terrible swing. Can't wait to see your reply. Cheers, Chris! Thanks so much for these!
Can we all see it?
Hi Chris, nice video. Thank you for your content. Question: I tried this yesterday & I was topping the ball using a towel about 4 inches behind. Is it just practice or do I need to make additional adjustments?
Great drill the golf bay looks smart.🏌️♂️🏌️♂️
Like the tee peg tip. Good Stuff Chris.
Thanks Chris. Slowly improving my iron shots. This has been a great help.
Thanks Graham
Interesting to hear the difference in sound between the two different strikes.
Chris, for a 3W off the mat, would I be putting the tee peg closer in front of the ball instead of 4-5in?
Thanks, a great tip!
Nice video Chris, would fate plate be any good for chipping ?.
Just discovered the Fat Plate, working hard on the descent of the club along with an appropriate hip turn, trying to get them to sync.
A further point I found useful to get this right is that if one practices and gets good at short punch shots - something I enjoy doing- then the posture and angle of attack is pretty much right except for a longer backswing and follow through. Be good to get your views on this.
Got a fatplate a few weeks ago. Love the feedback I get from it, ball striking definitely improving.
I David do you think it would be to checky to ask you to tell me the gap where you put the iron in width and length cheers
This is very good. My 9-year-old daughter usually hits flush shots in her good days even she tends to fire the torso early and get the club stuck behind a bit. In her bad days, however, when her swing is off she would hit fat shots. Now, for example, how to avoid fat shots by shifting the low point to the target side for a junior who tends to have the club stuck (i.e. the chest opens too early in the downswing)?
Also, in correcting the stuck behind issue, her hands would try to catch up the pace resulting over the top cutting across the ball and cause a lot of fade spin.
She is the runner up in last year's Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst in girls age 8 with one under par score after three rounds. We have had several instructors over the past 4 years (will also hire a PGA professional from the States next month). But the stuck behind issue is really a pain that haunts further progress and creates unnecessary problems. Golf is the most frustrating sport, isn't it.
Thank you, Chris. You are the best, considering setting up a branch academy in Asia down the road? Ha ha, cheers.
Great idea, the tee peg I use on grass, mats are the greater evil, the fat plate could be a good idea,
Great tip with the tee 👍
Awesome thanks
How much further did the ball go when you the tee peg?
Thanks for the tips Chris. Will definitely be investing in a fatplate and also a tee 😉 cheers
Hey Chris, this is my biggest problem for me as a handicap 14. I have 0° attack angle with my irons. Do you know where I can buy that last plate you used??? Thanks from Spain
Hi Chris what is the optimum angle of attack?
Just sent for a fat plate thankyou for a brilliant lesson Chris.
Great tips, but since tees are expensive I have always used pennies.
Need one for a driver
Hi Chris. I really struggle with my driver. If I strike it, it is a heavy slice, however I do shank the driver quite a lot to the left, which is embarrassing! No matter how far away i stand from the ball I always happen to do it. Any tips?
What worked for me was to stand closer to the ball. That's right, closer! Try it. You've got nothing to lose.
Kevin Maher Hmm right okay.. I'll definitely give it a shot!
Fantastic drill. My 6 iron angle of attack is -1.7. I would love to get it to -4.
Yeah -4 would certainly improve the strike quality
Does this relate to swallowing your club in the back swing?
Or maintaining lag?
Love the fat plate, brings out some harsh truth on ball striking
Your video is all about low point and not angle of attack. Many people can be too steep and still have a low point behind the ball (fat shots). Good drills and training aid for low point though 👍
Chris,
What is your gym routine? Do you do anything specific for golf? You look amazing, and have tremendous power.
Please god don't tell me that's just your genetics.. haha
Chris, on our winter course we play of mats, would you suggest we don’t hit off from a tee in order to keep a downward strike ?.
Hi Mick, my advice would be to always use a tee where you get the chance, just ensure it’s a very low one and the same technique will work for both situations
ChrisRyanGolf THANKS. MIC
Wouldn't it be simpler to think about getting more forward shaft lean at impact for a steeper angle of attack? Bowed lead wrist would help a lot.
Depends on what you want to do. Steepening angle of attack is not necessarily an improvement. You may want a shallow angle of attack to increase backspin on landing such as in chipping and pitching.
