I have about 15 golf teachers saved on my UA-cam. Most are good and I pick up a little here and there. I found yours last Sunday. I can't get enough, obsessed with your material. I do a lot of mirror, video etc of my swing. My ball stricking in less than a week has improved! Your information for whatever reason just clicks and makes more sense of a difficult game. I've been playing since 1986, 64 now and I think I've learned more on UA-cam in a year than all the other years waiting for a new lesson in golf digest or golf magazine that fit my issue. Lol I would devour books, golf my way, Greg Norman series with Butch Har
I totally agree and I have the same effect like you. I am 58 and had a long break of playing golf. Chris‘ instructions are amazing. It’s a new world for me compared to 20 years ago @chrisryan
Chris, this is the most astonishing move that I didn’t know. It makes totally sense. I love all your material and suck it in… I am 58 and started again to play golf after 20 years of break and a 7 hcp. Your videos help me a lot to understand what is really happening. Greetings from Switzerland.
I watched you break this down in another video, it genuinely was a lightbulb moment. I took it to the change and was hitting pure consistent shots. Hit draws properly for the first time since I started! Sometimes it just takes someone to explain it in a way you can personally understand. Many had tried, but it was only you that made it through this thick noggin. Cheers lad.
Chris, this one really is mind blowing. I'd say useful knowledge for all, but particularly for good players to catch a light bulb moment. I found this searching hand path videos. I'm in the camp of trying to get my hands as close to my body and exit left on the downswing with mixed results. The forearm rotation moving the hands out is what I needed to see for that extra room. You can really see it in DJ's swing. Now every swing I see I'm seeing the arms move exactly like you showed in the drill. Really good video dude..
Wow I watch a lot of instruction and this is the first time I have seen this lesson. I have always struggled to get a bow in my wrist and get compression without pulling the ball off the planet but now it is much easier. My right arm is unstuck and I now have so much room to deliver the club. I know this is going greatly improve my consistency. I just subscribed. Thanks!!!
Did this drill a few times at home and came to realize that having my hands out a bit coming down made the club in line with my trail forearm going through the ball.
Love the recent videos you’ve been doing about forearm rotation. I basically tried to fight this for years until recently and struggled because of it. Swing feels much more on plane when I let them rotate more freely. Keep up the great content, thanks!
Thank you so much this lesson was exactly what I needed to see. This made me see why I was cupping my wrist at the top of the backswing and leading to an open face at contact. Keeping this in mind during my game has helped have a more consistent strike. Subscribed
From down the line, I just watched a slow motion video of Tiger Woods hitting an iron shot. From his set up to just before contact when his golf club is parallel to the ground, his hands did in fact move quite a distance away from his body. GREAT video, Chris!!!
This really resonates. I recently clicked that I naturally try to get to ball impact with an early release, but your coaching here also shows how my aim tends to be that I want to swing straight ahead instead of releasing and "coming around". (I assume we tend to think that will create a pull?)
I love this - so so important and so neglected - by coincidence I just started to try this out but was not sure what I was doing was right - so cannot wait to try your drill out tomorrow 🙏😊🏌🏼♂️
You have done other videos on this. Please keep it up. Your explanation is the best I have ever seen. Most YT instructors don't even talk about this. I added about 20 yards with my hybrid practicing this move. Awesome!!
I had been working on this after the video you did with Tom because while I wasn't steep wit the club shaft my hand path was a bit steep and got the club a bit too far outside. This really did the trick. The one big thing is having to now adjust my release pattern or it is hosel city, but when I get the grip moving up and left in the middle of the club every time.
I think domethong judt clicked for me regsrding the position og the right elbow. I haven't been sble to get proper shaft lean. Off to the range - thanks, Chris!
I love this video and I watched the videos in the past on this same matter but I constantly keep topping or shanking it. I have tried a few drills, with covering the alignment stick etc. What am I doing wrong? I know this may be a difficult thing to assess, but I just cannot get under the ball with these changes.
I understand this conceptually, but believe I have brought my hands “in” so that I prevent throwing the club over the top and casting. Would what I’m doing then be an over correction to get shallow?
Nice lesson. Part of the problem in doing this full speed with amateurs is we move the hands too deep before moving handle to left thigh. What your brain thinks you are doing and what the body is doing are two different things. The only way I was able to fix this was to video tape myself until I got it right. I told my brain make the move earlier. The video showed I was doing the handle movement correctly with this thought change even though in my mind it didn't seem like it. It's all about timing.
The best way to ingrain a "new motion" is very slow repetition. Start by trying to hit 25 Yard - 6 Iron shots. Once you find repeated success, then add 10 more yards for a few Swings. Gradually add Speed with each 10 Yard Increase. Don't Increase to the next 10 Yards until you have hit 3 or 4 "good shots". Keep working up in 10 Yard Increments until you get to your own "Full Speed".
Glad it helped, being honest I’m not sure of the difference between those two releases. Every golfer I have ever seen uses both body, hands and arms, the blend of those may depend if the club face and shape of swing but all are present
Chris love your response here. What I do like is the fact you do not de-emphasise the forearm release in the follow through. You seem to have a perfect blend of body rotation with arm rotation in the follow though. But to the 4 o’clock position your forearm rotation looks to be perfectly synchronised with your core / body rotation and shoulders pivoting motion. There is no flapping or flipping or early crossover in this video. But from a rear camera you would be able to see the watch face on your lead arm at 4 o’clock post impact (6 o’clock being address). But to this point it is in face more body rotation than forearm rotation involved. From 4 o’clock we would see you re-hinge / re-cock your lead wrist and we would see more crossover / forearm rotation in your forearms. The fantastic thing about your coaching is the fact you remain consistent. This is in perfect harmony with your video of 7 years ago where you explained Release. Myles
This was the missing piece watched the video last night, and took it to the range today. Initially started with 1 hour with short wedge shots. Took it to the course for 9 holes, and saw a significant different driver through LW. Finished was an easy -1.
The early part of the downswing will be fairly unique for everyone, but the hands don’t have to move out initially, they can move almost vertically down and you can still hit this ideal position
Many prior videos from a variety of online instructors stress how the hands go in on the takeaway, almost brushing the right hip- "hands in, club out". This is a different model- was the prior approach incorrect?
Hey, no not incorrect at all, this is referencing more of the delivery position coming into impact, if the other instruction you reference was the takeaway then these will be very different
@@lendzubow yes in the first part of the takeaway the hand path follows a gentle inward and upward arc as the core begins to rotate away from the ball. But by 8 o’clock the wrists start to hinge and the arms start to rotate and fold. It’s at this stage that the hands move up to the level of the club (equivalent to moving away from the body). It happens in the second part of the backswing to lead arm parallel (9 o’clock half way back position). On the downswing these arm conditions are maintained into P 6 Last Parallel hence why your hands by definition must be further away from your body / toe line arriving into this Delivery Position. As the lead forearm re-rotates back to square, and the hand path moves upwards and inwards (left) the club head naturally does the equal & opposite & moves downwards & outwards to collect the ball. Myles
So once you explaind this, I had an a-ha moment like a light bulb shaped like a bomb that looked like an epiphany with an eureka shaped mushroom cloud in my brain. All of a sudden now I'm making turf contact and I don't feel like I'm having to shrug my shoulders like I was before.
Seems a very complicated analysis. Surely this will happen naturally during the downswing since it would be impossible to maintain the angle between arms and golf golf club at adress, when you swing it at 80mph. Your arms will automatically raise due to centrifugal force.??

What a great visual and explanation of the golf swing. 👏🏻 🙏🏻 ⛳️

Brilliant. This piece of information seems to me to be absolutely crucial.
Omg! This whole time I’ve been fighting to keep my hands closer to my body, especially on the down swing! I can’t wait to try this on the range!

Your a Great teacher of the game Chris,,,an old USA veteran,,,,,thanks,,, you’ve helped my game
My pleasure 🙌
I've been told repeatedly me my hands are too close to my body. You have shown me how to fix it. I have been a fan for a while. Many thx.

Does this drill goes the same with driver or no chris?
Thanks
Yes same applies to driver
Is this just for hitting down on irons mate? Or does it apply to driver swing too?
Yeah applies to driver too
Would that process work with driver ?
Very interesting, thanks.
Thanks for watching

So the lead hand is moving forward towards the ball almost immediately?

Would you not have to be careful when doing this so the club doesn’t get yanked inside when making sure hands move out?
With driver too?
Yep same move
Just wondering the exact same thing
This is exactly, 100% my failing in the swing.

Not convinced on this one to be fair
Which part Nathan?

This is a great lesson. This concept isn’t intuitive to novice golfers. If you practice this for a couple of weeks it’ll click for you I promise
