Yeah, I just checked, and even if you don't have a link cable, you can see this happen in the second demo of the attract mode in the American and European versions. (The Japanese version has that demo play out differently as a flower appears instead.)

I especially enjoyed how frequently you'd go from small Mario to fire Mario (power-up from the crowd and a block) and immediately back to small Mario (hitting an enemy or hazard). 😆 And then walking between the two spinys and narrowly dodging a fire bar. Well done! Out of curiosity, at 21:55, why didn't you hit the block as the hammer brother came down from above? I know from experience that he doesn't actually need to land on the block to die if you hit it. There's just a window where his collision box and the block's can overlap that kills him even if he was just passing by. This is one of the few places I use that trick nearly every time I play, because it's one of the only places I'm comfortable enough with the timing and I'm so bad at dodging the hammer brothers that I wipe them out whenever I get the chance. Is this something not widely known? Or did it not occur to you in the moment?

I just thought of something which could be added to Crowd Control. Remove Mario's collion with enemies for a short time. It would be best if it was an arbitrary amount of time between a upper and lower bound
Lakitu parties would've been cool but then I realized this games small entity limitation, game would basically crash on a lakitu party. Unlike Mario 35 that runs on a much beefier engine.

That small fire happening from powering up on the same frame you took damage is awesome. I guess it happens the same as "normal" small fire - the two things happening at once causing the variables to get out of sync. Have people done this in TAS? Edit: Can't be done in normal gameplay, because the game freezes when you get a powerup or take damage.
