again, I'm super sorry that I had to cut down this video. Going through every single level would've dragged on for WAY too long. This game had a lot more than I first expected.

just to be pedantic, the eyes come from mario 1's backstory, they just weren't quite as prevalent because they had so few sprites in that game that they were recycling them a lot. I mean the reason there are mushrooms with eyes and bullets with eyes...
This video is neat, it's weird to hear the perspective of someone who didn't grow up with these games. Uh, I'm sure others have told you, but the leaf is because that's a tanuki, not a raccoon. they have magic leaf powers.

As a kid who lost his shot when this game was revealed in the the movie "The Wizard" and who loved this game during my childhood, it was really cool to see an adult's take playing the game for the first time. There were a ton of secrets you missed in World 1. Two warp whistles, for example. Anyway, this game is an absolute masterpiece.

You probably know this by now, but the reason why the little fortress's unlock these doors are for a virtual 'checkpoint' in case you get a game over.
I have to admit, this was a bit tough to watch! Don’t get me wrong-when I first played this game back when it was released, I probably wasn’t great either. But after 35 years of experience, it’s hard not to notice all the missed power-ups and the mistimed jumps.

Ill always be a Mario World Person but Mario 3 is a very close 2nd favourite 2D Mario for me

There was a secret thing that would pop up on the over world map under certain conditions and it would trigger a match card/memory game where you win all the prizes on the cards you match. My dad had hand drawn diagrams of ALL the outcomes of the match game and he could tell within the first two card flips which of his diagrams he’d need for a perfect game lol.

But since he talked about both previous supermario games as well, he might could,ve call it the history of supermario 3.

Street fighter 2, donkey Kong country 2, Megaman 2, street fighter alpha 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Zelda 2... There's some about the sequel of games that are magical
Mario turns into a tanuki, a raccoon-dog. In Japanese folklore, the tanuki are mischievous and use a leaf to transform. Great video dude.
