Well done vid with lots of accurate, often overlooked facts (ie, Doyle's real name/change to Doyle/addition of WvF surname), but Arthur's last name is pronounced with two hard g's: "goo-gee," not "goo-jee."
As much as i love the early Misfits, i still think Glenns best work is with Danzig and Samhain. Graves era Misfits is more my cup of tea. American Psycho is one of my top 5 albums.
So....Im hanging out at someones house in. a little town called Monessen Pa...and some guy says...I met this drummer...he was walking around the neighborhood...so I invited him to stop by. Ive been playing rock guitar for a long time and always am ready to jam. The guy come into the house. Introduces himself.....says hes from New York...and sits down at the kit. Some how .....Im sitting in the couch and he and the drums are in front of me. Without looking at each other....We rocked some Holy Diver....Rush.....and even some original stuff I was making up.....Everything I played....He played right along with me....It was like we had played together for 10 years....He was a bad ass drummer....When he left....I said whats the name of that band your in again.....and he said...THE MISFITS.....He and the band were shooting a video at TOM SAVINI's Film school and then they were going to Europe. Ill never forget that day....Hope you liked my Misfit Story....Rock On
I was at the Chicago Riot Fest gig and a few months later, saw Michael Graves at a VFW of all places, playing to about 30-40 people. Even at $10 a ticket, I'd never see Michael Graves again . He sounds terrible live and the songs...well, they're just not that good. Argyle Goolsby from Blitzkid played bass and did backup vocals on that show and honestly, he was the only thing that kept it together. I will say though, Graves is a really nice guy. Talked to him for awhile after the set and he signed the arm-sling I was stuck in at that time. He didn't look too thrilled when I told him I was going to have Doyle sign it in a few weeks though.
I remember first hearing of the Misfits in the early 90’s from a Metal dude in my school. I was way into Hardcore and Punk so I ignorantly turned my nose up to them initially. I was all about Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys and NYHC bands like Bold and Youth of Today. But after hearing Danzig a few years later, I went back and became a Misfits fan. Their creepy Metal dramatic sound and Glen distinctive vocal style just grabbed me. It’s still amazing to me how so much of the music I loved at that time were from bands that were already defunct or had released their seminal albums when I was a few years old! So many great bands never made it big but strongly influenced my musical tastes. Bands like Bad Brains and The Dead Kennedys were perfect examples, though I did see Dead Kennedys in NYC back when they did a reunion tour without Jello. It was awesome, we were all coked up and started a scuffle after chucking our drinks with ice cubes into the crowd. Good friggin times man! Dead Kennedys also influenced my political opinions, and distrust of authority. Punk is all about rejecting the mainstream corporate consumer driven culture that is the US culture. It coupled so well with Skateboarding and Freestyle riding, activities that in the 80s and 90s were as yet “uncool” and not really commercialized like they are today. We were punks, black sheep but we had “our” music and “our” style and “our” scene and by senior year we were a sizable majority of the graduating class. The lower grades looked up to us outcasts with our unapologetic, loud and lewd style haircuts and clothing. Those were the days. I still love that music, always will, I share it with my son. This generation has way more stuff to grab their attention not like my generation. We had video games but I wasn’t allowed to just play to my hearts content. I remember how my sister gave me Ozzy’s The Ultimate Sin cassette tape in the summer of 6th grade and I was so stoked that I was listening to bad music. The fall I met my buddy Dave and he introduced me to Punk and Hardcore. I took to it like a fish to water. Great time in my life, I’m so thankful I grew up in the era I did.
You were into punk, so you turned your nose up at the misfits??? Uh....OK yeah that makes sense. Thankfully your first sentence was so stupid that it let me know not to waste my time reading the rest of your novel.
Glenn is such a dork but you gotta love him. I still maintain that Fear 3's inclusion of "Mother" was the single greatest end credit/music sequence in videogames.
I was first introduced to the misfits in 1982 (I was 11). I went to my first show at 13. It was DK. I went to high school with a couple of the guys from no use for a name. D poz of 7 seconds and I used to hang out a lot. I miss the Gilman street days. Edit: yes, I know Gilman street is operating again. Just not at buck a band level anymore.
Should have mentioned the lineup for the reunion shows. Having Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer) brings a whole new sound to the band, and with that a whole new following. I'm only a fan of Misfits now mainly due to what Lombardo brings.
Always enjoyed the refined sound of Graves far more than the drunk-Elvis sound of Danzig. I caught a lot of hell over it growing up from Misfits gatekeepers. The fact that Danzig continues to come off as an arrogant asshole doesn’t do anything to change my mind. To be clear, if anyone else prefers Danzig over Graves, we like different things and that’s totally cool. However, anyone who acts like Graves era was trash or even inferior, I firmly believe you are wrong.
Earth A.D. is one of my favorite albums. It was one of the first CDs I ever purchased. In my opinion, it's the Misfits' best album after Walk Among Us. Plus, if Metallica enjoyed it, it couldn't have been all that horrible.
The last Danzig era live Misfits show payed at a bar that is a couple of miles down the street from where I currently live. The bar is now a coin laundry
Need other former news about DANZIG? If so, look up THRASHER magazine on March of 1986. You'll learn about all of his recordings, concerts & even other subjects!!
The band wasn't called the Misfits until after Jerry joined. Also, Jerry is the ORIGINAL bassist. He played on the very first recording and did the very first show. It's like saying Bob Kulick was the original Kiss guitarist rather than Ace.

I saw them play with GWAR in 2000. They played after GWAR, so the whole band kept slipping in fake blood. Graves was pissed and kept kicking monitors. At one point, someone threw him a towel and he mopped fake blood with his foot while singing. It was hilarious.
Electric Factory in Philly? I saw that tour also, (Famous Monsters) Murphey's Law played on that tour as well, opening for Gwar, with the Misfits headlining
I saw them in 2000, and also in ‘96 but that time they were with…gulp….Anthrax. Yes, Anthrax. Don’t remember who they played with in 2000. Having not been at the show you were at, I can say with confidence you were at a better show. GWAR and Misfits together must have been awesome.
If Glenn IS the Misfits, then Samhain is surely an extension of the Misfits! ...and that's the way I've always seen it. If Glenn is Jimmy Page, then Misfits is the Yardbirds, and Samhain is Led Zeppelin!
@@TheSpdmini thx. I was just glad someone could relate. Kinda seemed like an apt comparison to me, and I always wished for a a 4th Samhain release to cement the original legacy of the Glenn vision. And everything else is prostitution!
The Misfits were one of those bands that, until recently, sold more T-shirts than records. I got into Danzig while in high school in the late 80s/early 90s, but didn't buy my first Misfits album until 2010, which I should have done two decades earlier!
Went to the reunion show twice. Shitty tickets at the end of the arena and those shows were amazing. If they book any more and you haven't seen the show make an effort.
I’ve been trying to see these guys since 2006! Next year at Riot Fest may be my last chance to break the curse that’s been keeping me from seeing them!
Iron Maiden also made quite a few songs based on horror movies. Children Of The Damned, Phantom Of The Opera, The Number Of The Beast(Inspired By The Omen), Wicker Man etc.
I'm a hip hop head. But I grew up skating so I'm more than familiar with punk/hardcore i would say they are just as popular as the Ramones/sex pistols ? Maybe even more to some degree, EVERY ONE !can recognize that fiend logo even if they never heard one song
The ramones logo it's also pretty recognizable, i've came across to some teen girls who had Ramones shirts without even knowing they were a band, they thought it was a fashion brand.
Never really cared for Danzig and didn't even know he was in Misfits till I fell in love with "Astro-Zombies". So I guess he's tolerable with a band like the Misfits.
12:05 Larry Bird and Michael Jordan were never rivals, at least not like that. I think what you meant was Larry Bird and MAGIC JOHNSON. That comparison actually makes a lot of sense.
Jerry talks out his ass. The reunion was the result of a lawsuit where Jerry can no longer perform live as The Misfits. Glenn did the right thing for himself and the fans; made it impossible for Jerry to perform as The Misfits by himself ever again.
Thank you. I was fortunate enough to see the new misfits as a first show, enjoy both artists, I love danzig more sometimes.i saw the reunion tour with graveyard opening. So Graveyard, The Misfits, Danzig. I know you're jealous. Haha

Now I’m learning about them and these guys-...they are musical imbeciles and I adore them lmao
My first copy of Legacy was on cassette. Good times.
I like both singers but Glenn will always be my favorite. I've been a fan of everything Glenn has done.

I came into the Misfits in the 90s. I appreciate both eras as there are some great songs out of that Graves run.
i saw the misfits when they came back in 95, before the album came out and mike graves sang the old song pretty good, but when i hear the new album they did i could have been more disappointed, i mean it was as bad as kryst the conqueror which was the christian metal band that the onlys started after the misfits, i had it on cd it used to be impossible to find before the internet. the vocals were done by inwvay malmsteen vocalist, dave sabo for skid row did a guest guitar lead. everything the misfits did aftr glenn has been terrible in an old misfits samhain danzig fans mind. every single one of my old school misfits fans friends think the same
My favorite horror punk band ❤❤
I think you'll find any other horror punk band was in fact influenced by the misfits 🤦♂️
Only Horror punk band as far as I’m concerned
I always thought Danzig's voice sounded like a perfect mix between Elvis and Jim Morrison.
With a little joey ramone
@@zachdawson1822 I don’t hear it but you’re probably right
Throw in some Bing Crosby too.
Danzig knew what to do as a teen back in the day.
Wasn’t he in his 20s already when the band started
Who absolutely cannot stand Glen Danzig, but absolutely loves the Misfits?
Hard to believe someone was able to stack shit 5 feet high
I've always been in this camp. Danzig is such a whiney princess, and I'm into both eras of Misfits. I'm able to separate the artist from the art.
Elvis
I think that's pretty much everyone.
I don’t know Danzig personally, so can’t say.
The "American Psycho" album is my favorite for sure. I love all of the early stuff too.
My dad took me to see the misfits in 1999 I was hooked to them almost instantly
Ill never forget that day....Hope you liked my Misfit Story....Rock On
What is punctuation?
I love both Misfits eras.
Misfits forever!
Tape worms forever, forever tape worms.
Sad, you have no concept of taste or punk. The Misfits is Danzig singing. But then again you're entitled to your bad taste
@@MrJason138 Yeah. Really sad. I'll try to live with that while I cry in the shower.
Glenn Danzig getting KO'd and going viral was how I found The Misfits. That dude he tried to push was HUGE!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He brought a Vienna to a kielbasa fight.
And the guy released a book!.
That guy's house burned down!
Huge fan, always will be. These guys made some really great songs. They’re up there with The Ramones for sure.
Way better than Ramones
I’m dying because a few weeks ago Finn from punk rock mba said he wouldn’t do an “untold story of the misfits “ because that’s been done lol
Same here
How about doing a tour with both Danzig and Graves singing their songs......bring in both camps and remember in the end we are ALL fiends and 138!!
Graves is a bootlicker, I don't think anyone would want to play with him. Even his band quit on him
Ever since i started listening to the misfits the number 138 pops up everywhere. Kinda weird.
@@savagendn961 same. almost creepy. I love it though. recently bought a vehicle and vin ends in 138
everything i love is in their music
horror, science fiction, punk
Saw the Dead Kennedys at the Farm in SF in 85. Along with many other bands.
You should write a book
@@patrickquinn5939 he already did
Lol dead Kennedy’s without jello. That’s called a tribute band.
You were into punk, so you turned your nose up at the misfits??? Uh....OK yeah that makes sense. Thankfully your first sentence was so stupid that it let me know not to waste my time reading the rest of your novel.
I saw both Danzig and Graves live 🤘
Flew from North Carolina to Chicago...was totally worth it.
Just not at buck a band level anymore.
lol. Love it. Went to high school in North Berkeley off Gilman in the mid '80s. used to see shows there all the time. And the Omni in Oakland

Sorry! I come from an age were the only place you could get band shirts was at a concert or a record store.
I went to the misfits in the 90s my first live gig. I will always adore them in all their incarnations
96 fits will never die
"Static Age" is by far my favorite and only Misfits album I listen to.
The Misfits don't make a mark, they make a wound.
The band wasn't called the Misfits until after Jerry joined. Also, Jerry is the ORIGINAL bassist. He played on the very first recording and did the very first show. It's like saying Bob Kulick was the original Kiss guitarist rather than Ace.
Jerry is not the first bassist it was a female

Doyle was right in attributing some of the bands success to Cliff Burton and Metallica. Doyle definitely has a well known girlfriend Alissa White - Gluz

Saw them at MSG then in Philly a month later. What a great show
I was in the pit at MSG. That shit was insane
I was at that Denver show and it was epic!!!..waited 30 plus years for it.
Some bands can just never quite get it together unfortunately. Glad they were able to record new stuff.
Wow, I never knew this about Diane DiPiazza. I lived up the street from her and went to school with her younger sister.
I heard the Misfits in 90 or 91 because I was a Danzig fan and someone told me to check out the Misfits....blew my mind lol
In September 2016, for the first time in 33 years, Danzig, Only, and Doyle reunited for two headlining shows as the Original Misfits
I enjoy the "happy" evil of Michael as opposed to the "snobbish" evil of Glen. Never want to hear the "pathetic" evil of Only again.
Glenn the moust iconic musician, the most beautiful musician...Love forever you!!!
Let's do Samhain
Agreed. Such a great band and still unknown by many, despite the success of the Misfits and Danzig.
If Glenn IS the Misfits, then Samhain is surely an extension of the Misfits! ...and that's the way I've always seen it. If Glenn is Jimmy Page, then Misfits is the Yardbirds, and Samhain is Led Zeppelin!

The Misfits were one of those bands that, until recently, sold more T-shirts than records. I got into Danzig while in high school in the late 80s/early 90s, but didn't buy my first Misfits album until 2010, which I should have done two decades earlier!
Without spending much time to find out, I haven't been able to figure out if the cover art of "Walk Among Us" was by Banksy.
Bansky wouldn't be around then.

I’ve been trying to see these guys since 2006! Next year at Riot Fest may be my last chance to break the curse that’s been keeping me from seeing them!
I like both Danzig and Michel Graves, each for different reasons. I'm also 20 so when I was old enough to enjoy their music both were over.
Astro-Zombies is certainly top5

Larry Bird and Michael Jordan were never rivals, at least not like that.
Haha
