November-Coming-Fire is the very first Glenn related record I ever heard. It had a profound impact on me. I'll never forget listening to it for the first time
I was at the very first Samhain show at the Rock Hotel in NYC in early 1984 (or very late 83, can’t remember exactly), Lyle Pressler from Minor Threat played guitar for that show. It was epic, we knew it was going to be big.
I definitely love these in depth introspectives! Keep it up!! As someone (47 years old now) who has loved the Misfits since 13 years of age. I stumbled upon Samhain via the archangel track.

Danzig didn't write the music for that album ncf. He bought the music from another duo of artists from the early 60s. I can't rember there name but it's a fact
I definitely think Samhain is probably my favorite material of Danzig's writing output. The atmosphere on NCF is solid and unique. It's own thing. I revisit it more then any of Glenn's releases. I saw them live in '99 which was a high point in my concert attendance experiences. Great job on this Retro. I'm definitely looking forward to your Danzig Retro next!! Misery Tomb is the bass and background vocals from I Am Misery. You can hear the full track bleeding through the headphones in the vocal booth of the studio at certain parts. Really cool.
Samhain is a great band that is sadly overlooked. I have Initium, Unholy Passion EP, and November Coming Fire and appreciated Glenn's journey from punk rock to metal. The dark atmosphere, occult lyrics and experimental musicianship gave Samhain a leg up on its peers. A perfect retrospective for the Autumn season and I look forward to your Danzig retrospective.
Archangel is one of my absolute favorite songs! My second favorite Samhain song is To Walk the Night! Luckily, I bought the Samhain Box set when it came out in 2000ish. I lost the cool box the CDs came in 😢 but I still have the CDs!! Those CDs are gold! I also copied the music to my laptop so I can burn new ones if the original CDs kick the bucket! I would be very sad if I couldn’t listen to Samhain whenever I want to. About Halloween II, when I was in middle school in ‘93, my art teacher saw I had wrote down the lyrics for that song in my notebook, and since he knew some Latin, he translated the lyrics for me 😂…that was awesome of him!
I wrote a review of the Samhain boxset on the e-music website which was publishing his music at the time, they used it (without my name or information) as a "this is what a fan says about the boxset" on their site which was cool, but I said some of the things you highlight here.. a stripped down gothic horror masterpiece full of dread and oozing with evil percussion ...I think truly some of Glenn's best work. Most people don't know about the Less than zero soundtrack, so thanks for mentioning it.. another track a lot of people haven't heard is the song Father's Grave by Melissa Auf der Maur which includes Danzig's vocals and unfortunately didn't get the airplay it deserved. It can be found here on youtube and Glenn's vocals stand out over everything else.

When I finally picked up a copy of Initium I was hooked. It was definitely different - but in a good way. I loved the eerie, and darker vibe that was produced between Misfits and Danzig.
Saw them on the Season of the Dead Tour in 85 and the Shift when they paused was tense then when it kicked back in crowd went crazy. Samhain live or Misfits? Samhain definitely! I have my original Unholy Passion White Vinyl in burgundy cover I play on occasion. My favorite Samhain release. Never for sale! ;-)
I saw Danzig and Venom in Portland OR back in 2017 shit was fucking epic. He played all my favorite songs. And even ripped a few deep cuts out like Dirty Black Summer and How The Gods Kill. He also play 20 Eyes from the Misfits. Sadly he did not play any Samhain. But with so many great albums how do you play them all? LOL Funny enough I did not know about Samhain tell late high school back in 2011. Kinda Funny when you been jamming to Danzig since middle school only to find out he had other bands laughs. Great channel! I don't know how I haven't stumbled across it before. I became a Misfits fanatic in '90 and was super excited when I learned about Samhain. I tried, I really tried to get into in the same way; I had that freaking wall sized b&w poster from the Intium photoshoot, so I did like them but other than songs like He Who Cannot Be Named, Archangel and a few others, it just didn't hit me the same way. Danzig (the band) had the same effect. The Misfits covers made me realize how much I preferred the melodic punk and over the top B-Grade horror movie vibe of the originals. Once he started getting all serious about the subject matter it lost a lot of charm for me. It sucks that it's hard to find now; I would like to revisit more of it.
I'm lucky enough to own a copy of the original 1990 final descent (with the unholy passion EP as the second half). And for some reason, it remains my all time favorite of the Samhain albums.
Good job dude. Thank you. Danzig V is incredible but i understand not initially liking it. Its actually his closest album to a Samhain album. Hint of her blood, sacrifice and Serpentia are some of his finest work. His vocals took a backseat to the overall production but it will slowly grow on you. See all you were is Samhain. I love all of Glenn's work except Circle of Snakes. Lol
I used to have the Samhain box set, then I ended homeless and packed around d in my backpack for about a year until I got arrested and I never got my pack or any of it's contents back from the cops when I was released. It's a real shame considering how hard it is to get Samhain material now.

Misfits is my favorite band, but Moribund is the first/most favorite song I've heard from Samhain, in my opinion the best one because it builds up so much creepy tension, then releases it, almost like a more death rock oriented type of song than All Hell Breaks Loose

The Samhain BOX SET? $79.99? Oh, believe me. I pulled out my money faster than a sailor pulled out of a cheating wife. Descent became my favorite album. How about the rest of you?
My buddy dropped the 80$, so I could cheap out and have hime record rhem onto disc fir me. But...all these years later they are scratched up and worn out, and I am screwed. I did have INITIUM on cd, but it went the way of Amelia Erhardt( the lost pilot lady? No idea how to spell it).
When I was a kid I use to speak about the November Coming Fire record as a warning what is coming in November. Apparently this still holds true.😁 This is was such a good record.
So many excellent Samhain songs but for me The Howl is the best. The timing of the instruments feels off and that makes the song. I saw Samhain open for Danzing in '99. They did the show covered in blood. Then Glen came back out with Danzig. It was incredible.

And yeah, Danzig 1-4 is all I'd care to hear about too in a Danzig retrospective, it was great to hear someone else voice the utter disappointment of Danzig 5 after getting rid of the players who made the Danzig sound what it is. That's like firing the Funk Brothers and trying to still make Motown hits.

One of the influences on Type O Negative. Samhain was his best band,not many appreciate their transformation sound & overall influence on post punk/heavy metal.

November Coming Fire is my favorite Samhain album. It's better than Earth AD. It's better than any post-4P Danzig albums.
Tis the season. Last year I played Misfits and Damned covers at several open mics but this year I was too busy working. Must be time to quit haha. I will see if I can learn Mother Of Mercy on electric guitar. My acoustic punk covers are a bit lacking. Stay hungry and poor, fiends.

This and the misfits one were great!!! A Danzig one would be nice too. Yes, the first 4 albums are essential, I'll give you 5, 6, 7, and not being great, I think they're fine but whatever. However, circle of snakes and Deth Red Saboath are killer! After that, the rest is terrible.🤣🤣🤣

Misfits is my favorite band, but Moribund is the first/most favorite song I've heard from Samhain, in my opinion the best one because it builds up so much creepy tension, then releases it, almost like a more death rock oriented type of song than All Hell Breaks Loose

The Samhain BOX SET? $79.99? Oh, believe me. I pulled out my money faster than a sailor pulled out of a cheating wife. Descent became my favorite album. How about the rest of you?
My buddy dropped the 80$, so I could cheap out and have hime record rhem onto disc fir me. But...all these years later they are scratched up and worn out, and I am screwed. I did have INITIUM on cd, but it went the way of Amelia Erhardt( the lost pilot lady? No idea how to spell it).
I got into samhain in 1985/86 i was 14/15 let the day begin,the shift,the howl, archangel....also bloodfeast (misfits)
When I was a kid I use to speak about the November Coming Fire record as a warning what is coming in November. Apparently this still holds true.😁 This is was such a good record.

So many excellent Samhain songs but for me The Howl is the best. The timing of the instruments feels off and that makes the song. I saw Samhain open for Danzing in '99. They did the show covered in blood. Then Glen came back out with Danzig. It was incredible.
I know this is an old video but I totally agree with you that it would be nice if you could release the Samhain albums on example Spotify or UA-cam music. November-Coming-Fire is one of the vinyls that I would like to have but I cant afford it ^^ . Thanks a lot of a really good video I liked the one you did about Misfits as well

ive got a Samhian box set from when it came out years ago ... im not a collector of anything and throw everything out , but for some reason ive held on to that thing for over 20 years ... i had no idea its going for over $700 today ? ... i think i paid $60 for it when it came out
Great video. Reminded me of my love for Samhain. And yeah, Danzig 1-4 is all I'd care to hear about too in a Danzig retrospective, it was great to hear someone else voice the utter disappointment of Danzig 5 after getting rid of the players who made the Danzig sound what it is. That's like firing the Funk Brothers and trying to still make Motown hits.
I saw Glenn say in an interview that 5 was basically a 90s SAMHAIN record....which made me re-listen To It In A Different Mindset Cause I First Hated It Too.
