Just look at the quality and style of the music they made after the split. Danzig was clearly the top talent of the original Misfits. The albums he made with Rick Rubin still hold up.
The reunited Misfits is a good representation of the band that started in the late 70's. They are all the original members including the drummer because Misfits always had a revolving door for that position. But what the reunited Misfits cannot replicate is the element of danger that followed them around before they broke up in '83. They were legends while they were still active, their vibe was so heavy and the atmosphere they created at shows was anarchic and dangerous. I saw them back then and remember it quite well.
Misfits was always Danzigs band. He wrote the lyrics ands songs. Without him they shouldn't have called themselves Misfits. I've got no problem with the rest of them performing and writing but not called Misfits.
I saw them back in '98 with Graves and it's still one of the most fun concert experiences I've ever had. That was such a fun era for The Misfits. They leaned into the campiness, and allowed their music to sound less angsty and more fun. Glenn's "dark and mysterious" persona always came off as forced and frankly, pretty laughable. He takes himself way too seriously, but I still enjoy the early-era music in spite of it. In 2018 I paid $300+ for a ticket and a few hundred more to fly to Newark and see a reunion show. It was so terrible I left partway through. It was clear that nobody on stage wanted to be there, Glenn sounded and looked terrible, and Doyle was just miming his guitar parts. It was a sad and obvious cash grab that worked.
I do not really know that much about The Misfits so I may be talking out of my arse on this subject. What I know of Glen Danzig is only my opinion, but I feel he thought he was better than he really was, maybe somebody told him that and he believed it, but in retrospect I think thast like with DLR his ego got in the way.

Some take aways here as a long time insider: Glenn signed over performing rights of The Misfits in 1995; the height of his career right after 'Mother '93' hit. Glenn saw the option of not paying a substantial sum to Jerry by signing away performing rights, most likely assuming anything Jerry did with The Misfits name would fail. I would say he instantly regretted it as Michale Graves ended up being a rather potent replacement for Glenn. I was there the whole time: '94 to 2001 and I went the Graves' path after 2001. Everyone left Jerry Only because he and his manager, John Cafiero, are, in our opinions, complete d bags. Doyle explained how those two fucked up a Misfits reunion a decade before it happened in this Grunge video. They fucked up many, many other things during The Misfits' second incarnation. Doyle quit on his brother in 2001 and didn't play with him again until the 2016 Misfits reunion. Neither Jerry or Doyle appear on either one's respective solo albums. Glenn sued Jerry to end the Jerryfits and prevent any further abominations of The Misfits' name. The judge may have dismissed the case, but Glenn offered Jerry five reunion shows if Jerry would stop performing as The Misfits and include Glenn in any merch deals. That's why Jerry Only's most recent album isn't called The Misfits, and any future albums by Jerry never will be, either. And don't even ask for a Misfits reunion with Graves because no way, as long as Danzig is alive, will the name ever be permitted to be used again without Glenn. Also, Doyle has said he doesn't want to play Michale's songs again. A lot of the branding fights are dumb because the Crimson Ghost skull is public domain anyway. And the official merch is pure garbage. All of you who love Jerry because he shook your hand and BS'd with you DON'T KNOW HIM. Ask Marky Ramone about Jerry. Better yet, GRUNGE, why don't you do a video on the feuds everyone has with Jerry Only and John Cafiero? Such as Ted Turner, ICP and Marky Ramone.

Danzig is a weird dude, Misfits sucked all of them, they were a door mat for Ramones, I have to admit their tee shirts were pretty cool. Samhain and first 4 Danzig albums were legit . But it is what it is, he made some really good music , worked hard and deserved all the fame and money , no one gave it to him, he worked for it, and besides being a weird dude he somehow did it, he is up there , I would say some of his stuff is better then Metallica and other famous bands
Have to say though, i find myself ONLY listening to the Graves days. Danzig was just gone too long for me. Danzig 100% Jelly that Graves pulled of such a bitchin sound.
Wow there are still good MEN out there? I'm gay and not meaning any disrespect but Doyle appears to be a kind of guy I would lay life down for. Hopefully I didn't offend.
Classic "egos gone awry" story. If the Misfits had gotten together back in '87, they guaranteed would have made a sh!t ton of money in "88 by being put on the Metallica "Justice" tour. Glenn is a pompous ass that wrote some great songs. Doyle can't play his way out of a wet paper bag. Best lineup was Glenn, Franche Coma, Jerry and Mr Jim, followed by the addition of Bobby Steele and Joey Image after Franche and Mr Jim left. The fact that there is a backstage guitarist hidden to play Doyle's parts at shows these days speaks volumes towards the decision to oust Bobby (admittedly, a goofball) and put Mr. Out-of-tune Feedback in the band.

The best decision he ever made concerning his never consistent music career was to let Rick Rubin sign and produce his solo project "DANZIG*….... Those first four Danzig albums are all classic metal albums
they are misfits what else should you expect from them?
Danzig is a weird dude, Misfits sucked all of them, they were a door mat for Ramones, I have to admit their tee shirts were pretty cool. Samhain and first 4 Danzig albums were legit . But it is what it is, he made some really good music , worked hard and deserved all the fame and money , no one gave it to him, he worked for it, and besides being a weird dude he somehow did it, he is up there , I would say some of his stuff is better then Metallica and other famous bands
Danzig's ego got in the way.
So glad Danzig cut the shit man.
They made up because money talks especially when it's millions of dollars.
But incomes SAMHAIN, DANZIG & later back to the MISFITS, again!
ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS. HONEY 🍯

Danzig rules
I dont Care About Band Issues there both nice to fans and thats that i dont even care that johnny ramone stole joeys girlfriend as long as he was nice to fans to and i dont care that he wasnt there for joey ether and i dont care about the feud between Danzig and Only there also both nice to fans being nice to fans is way more important then being nice to your band mates
The Misfits is Glenn Danzig. Glenn Danzig is The Misfits. Those are simply the facts.
No. With Glenn they are Misfits. Without Glenn they are The Misfits. There's a difference.
Is that Gary Glitter???
Nothing funnier than rockers that age badly but continue to dress like they were 20. Like Only's combover.
They kinda soldout their last tour..im a fan since the 80s..i have a misfits tattoo..and i couldnt even afford to go to the show..rippoff..and sad..they forgot the real punkrock fans..just saying. Soldout
Mother.
Legacy of Bullshit should have been the title
And Doyle still can't play guitar.
Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care 🎉
