    One of the more educational videos due to showing how to block off egr system and diagnose the fault to a isolated system. Very smart and wonderful trouble shooting tactics 👌

      Could have swapped the coils around to different cylinders, see if the problem follows. Quick test for most of us watching who don’t have sophisticated testing equipment

    This video went through ignition test, EGR valve cleaning, EGR cooler cleaning, and last manifold cleaning, eventually getting the problem solved. I believe I got idea how to solve my Prius engine shaking problem. Thanks!

    I've had this exact problem for months (same rattle sound!) on my 2010 Prius w/ 200K miles. I've changed the spark plugs and ALL of the coils, and also the Crankshaft sensor, but the problem is the same. I'm pretty sure after watching this video and others that I have an EGR problem like this. Thank you for the research and posting this!

      So did you resolve problem? I just cleaned my whole EGR SYSTEM today and rattling persists. Have a blown head gasket 2010 Prius 200k miles

      @@calvaryassemblyofgodsouthi8046 I dont know about napynap's car but it fixed the one in the video, just saw the car yesterday. Running great. Any misfire will cause the rattling sensation. Head gasket is common and will cause misfire as wet cylinder affects spark.

    Thanks a lot. Very useful video for me. It solved the problem for my 2012 Prius(120k km). I started in reverse with intake ports and rattle is gone. Thak you again.

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  4 роки тому +1

      So glad it helped! I have to point out that any misfire will make the rattle noise. So spark plugs, injectors, coils, head gasket, compression as well as EGR problems and other things will make this problem and cleaning the EGR wont fix any of the other things.

    Well done, friend. I found your determination pretty refreshing, vs. throwing part$ at the little beast, you simply fixed it.

    Good Job! i never tried using a wire in the intake. i'll do that next time.... i have 3 prius (prii ?) in my stable, and that is the sound of a headgasket replacement soon if the EGR isnt cleaned (and the intake also). long term fix is to change the piston rings to standard not energy saving plus a oil catch can. it will lessen the oil in the intake which clogs the EGR. similar to the TDI. if EGR isnt cleaned, all this knocking (from liquid in the combustion chamber) stretches the head bolts which results in a headgasket repair. but even that is temporary (20k -50k mi) until you do what i mentioned above. Replacing the piston rings is easy as the engine is like the brakes. its not even worn at 300k mi. hope i make sense.

      Great input! Thanks! Where did you get so much Prius knowledge?

    • @pyronitro

      @@CoolAirVw priuschat forums. when i first got the prius. the oil usage was insane. after a year of adding oil and intermittent P0420s and a 2nd Prius doing the same. had to fix it. i tried everything to clean the rings thats available. nothing works except changing it. i tried just changing the oil ring itself on one using aftermarket standard. and that lessened the oil consumption but didnt eliminate it. dont bother with the OEM rings. ... most of the time it makes that sound on a cold morning due to condensation. causing it to have liquid its tryng to compress inside aside from the ever present oil in the intake. which is why you need a oil catch can. it also catches some of the condensate. but you dont have to believe me. maybe you can test and make a video on that. :) oh and like the vw having vcds. its best to have techstream for toyotas to see the actual codes.

    2010 Prius with 230k miles. Sometimes after leaving the car in the rain and only after leaving it in the rain, the car makes a similar knocking sound for about 3 seconds. Then it stops and everything is normal. No error lights on the dashboard… has probably happened 10 or 20 times over 10 years… Then yesterday it made the knocking sound and the fine light came on. The code is P0301. What about the rain could be causing the knocking? Is there a specific part that I should investigate for failure?

    Great Video! My daughter has a 2006 Prius. Very bad "knock" sound at idle. Loss of power,and,check engine light. OBDll scanner showed misfires on cylinders,1,3,and 4. Knock goes away in drive and reverse. Only while in park. Changed plugs,cleaned MAF sensor,and,intake. I believe the "EGR pipe" is internal,or, software driven on gen 2s. Maybe,the igniters or injectors? There was also a 4th code shown. "po446". ANY help would be very appreciated. I'd hate to think motor is shot.
