    I never knew the spark plug manufacturer's were this important. The parts store people will try to sell you on the idea, the more expensive plug is better. I have learned watching Peter's channel to ALWAYS go with the type and Brand spark plugs recommended on the Owner's Manual. Thanks Peter!

      I think you will find most Manufacturers will make a plug that is of the same ie interchangeable. The iridium plug he speaks of is a more expensive plug than a standard plug the major difference being the plugs life span. I think the main reason for using such plugs is due to the difficulty in access to the plugs.

      Everything is pre-gapped nowadays AND since computers run everything, buy only the OEM version.

    Thanks for the great video Peter.
    One bit of advice I have for you and your viewers, is to definitely take the spark plug part number from your Toyota owners handbook down to your local Toyota dealer parts store to purchase.
    I found that my 2011 Toyota Corolla hatchback Denso spark plugs P/N: SC20HR11 had been superseded with a different part number from Denso themselves. My local Toyota parts store said that the new part number supersedes the original part number from the owners handbook. It always pays to make sure you have the correct spark plugs for your vehicle, which you so aptly explained the reason why for us today. Cheers Peter and keep up the awesome videos! Nick.

    Peter, I've just changed the fluid in the rear diff of my friends Honda CR-V. It's thanks to you I had the confidence to do this. I always changed my own engine oil but thought the other things were more complicated - until I started watching your videos. I saw how easy it was on those US 'trucks' that you service (I mostly only ever drive small sedans). So I watched some more videos and got the right fluids and started with that small diff - it's just one litre with a single drain & fill. Next week I'll practice on his transmission oil a few times (poor mans flush), and then finally I'll be ready to do my Toyota transmission fluid - I'm expecting that to be a bit more involved, having to drop the pan and replace the filter too. I become more of a man every day! Thanks again for spreading your good knowledge. Best wishes 2021.

    At first I though you said, “there was no chicken engine light” I guess you really meant “check engine light” . Thanks for your video.

    That spark plug definitely needs replaced .. but .. NGK figment guide for 2008 Prius does call for iridium spark plug part # BKR5EIX-11 which appears to be the one you removed. That is the correct NGK iridium plug for that vehicle. Really enjoy your videos btw ..

  • @rotorudage

    Great explanation

  • @ElectoneGuy
    @ElectoneGuy 3 роки тому

    According to the NGK website and part finder, BKR5EIX is one of the correct plugs for the 08 Prius. The OE Equivalent is Laser Iridium IFR5T. Also listed are BRK5EGP (G-Power) and FR5AHX (Ruthenium).

    Great video thank you Peter. I'm surprised it didn't misfire most of the time.

  • @inverseuniverse5727

    On newer generations Prius .
    If you have a misfire for a few seconds after cold start , then clears up .
    Check for low coolant level .
    I have seen many have headgasket issues .

  • @pedrofernandez8729

    Original battery? Problem with Prius, or any hybrid, is that when battery goes dead, it's as expensive as the engine or transmission to replace. (refurbished batteries are no good)

    Love the video. Surprise it ran at all with that gap. Likely also put a big strain on the coil. Might have shorten the life of it

  • @SeanPopify

    Rough start... Misfire. I would be doing a block test... Head gasket check...

  • @Ace7of7Cups
    @Ace7of7Cups Рік тому

    Did changing the spark plugs fix the misfire? I also had bought the same NGK lot but didnt start having noticeable issues till later. once P303 came up then I replaced the remaining old coils, then after P300, I am doing one more round of diagnosing on my own before taking my car to the specialty shop on the other side of the perimeter, because I cant afford a possible high repair bill from them right now.

    Great channel! Especially love the Tundra videos!
    I’m in the market for a bi-directional scanner, specifically one that will allow me to check transmission fluid in sealed transmissions and be able to reset alcohol/fuel% on my FFV 2013 Tundra. I don’t work on cars as a professional but I do work on all my friends, family and neighbors cars. I only work on Toyota, Honda, gm and Ford vehicles. Any recommendations you have is greatly appreciated!!

    Peter, I believe you said the plug was NKG BKR5EYX-11. This plug does not seem to exist. There is a BKR5EIX-11, however. Did you make a mistake or did I miss something?
