    Update 6-29-2020. Car is still running good. Miles are in the low to mid 170,000's don't know exactly and the car is not here right now so I'll try to get the exact miles later. We haven't done any doordash in over a month and I bought my son a 2012 Prius Plug in so now the blue one is my daughters car. It gets driven less as they don't share it anymore. She basically uses it to go work @ the Zoo which is about 20 - 25 miles away about 4 times a week. She only has a permit so we let her drive back and forth but we have to go twice a day as she can't drive by herself so basically it's two trips back and forth about 4 times a week.

      Thanks a very informative update, I appreciate it. I have a 2012 Prius V and I have the exact same issue 224k on it. Noticed it started at 220k and progressively has gotten worse. I don't even drive it currently. I am waiting on some quotes to replace the head gasket as I do not have the time to do it myself. Came across your video and thought I would give this a shot. Worst case is a new engine, which is about the same cost as a head job at the dealership so I am weighing that in there also.

      @Sha Huss Car is still running good but we haven't driven it much lately. Long story, I bought my daughter a 2006 Camry Solara Convertible so she no longer drives the Prius, I just semi-retired on August 31st 2020 and took all my rental cars home and only rent on Turo now. The Dealership licence I will keep but I am currently looking for a warehouse to store a few cars and just tinker around part time. The Blue Prius will soon be on my rental fleet but since it has over 130 miles Turo won't take it so I will be listing it on HireCar soon but I'm waiting to install a GPS tracking device before I let it go out on rental. HireCar is a peer to peer rental app for people that drive for Uber, Lyft, Doordash, etc. so soon people will be driving the crap out of my Prius, I trust it enough to list it there so let's see how that goes.... I'll keep you all posted.

    I used a bottle of Steel Seal to fix my head gasket, drained the coolant, removed the thermostat, flushed the cooling system really good, Then use a radiator cleaner to clean the cooling system , Make sure to flush out all the cleaner 100%, When engine is 100% cold add steel seal with distilled water, turn heater on high & let idle for 30 mins with the radiator cap off........Let it cool for 1 hour the let idle again for 30 mins with the radiator cap on...........next morning let it idle for another 30 mins then removed all water from the system to let the steel seal cure for 24 hours, Replace the thermostat, fill with coolant and your good to go. Mine has been running perfect for 70k miles now as i use the car for uber & lyft, Only cost me about $120 total.

    DO NOT DO THIS to your Prius IF you plan on keeping the car!!! Bought ours brand new in 2013 and it has 250K miles, but recently developed the Bad Head Gasket “shakes” issue. Thankfully found Gasket Masters videos BEFORE seeing this guys so-called “fix”. Am in process of doing GM’s excellent REAL fix. Correcting the issues is an involved project but not overly expensive DIY, unless you have other problems like a bad water pump. Also fixed/cleaned my EGR/coolant loop and throttle body/intake manifold, which were nearly blocked with carbon/soot. All in, I will spend about 3 days & $300 to have a vehicle that should last ANOTHER 250K miles. BTW in many cities GM can do the real fix in half a day for allot less than $2000. They also have videos that show what you do to an engine when you use this guys liquid “used car salesman trick”.

    If you’re in a pinch the head gasket sealer will work for awhile but it will ultimately still fail. The sealer then clogs the passageways and radiator as well. Best to just replace head gasket. Otherwise your just prolonging the problem. I’ve replaced 4 of these head gaskets, it’s fairly easy. Gasket masters have some great videos on how to do it.

      As soon as the coolant leak stops, drain all the coolant out that might contain the gasket sealer. Sometimes the heater core has to be flushed too. Clean the intake, egr pipe/cooler. Also if the coolant tank plastic looks yellow, replace it too. It should be white like the inverter coolant reservoir.

Once I get settled in a car, I'd rather just keep it. Good luck to you. The cooling system cools both the electric syst and the engine. So it's very complicated. ( I checked it with the autozone Code Reader they provide). So I put the thermostat back in with coolant and about a week and a half later my Prius started to stall on the freeway on the way to work. My dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree! Especially the TRIANGLE OF DEATH 💀 also said CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM. So I had it towed home and checked it with the Code Reader and it gave me Water Pump Code. ( sorry I don’t remember the codes). So I bought a $440 water pump from Autozone with Lifetime Warranty and put it in my car WITHOUT the thermostat. And so far the car is running ok except with the check engine light on because of the thermostat. ...and that’s where I’m at right now. (Sorry for the so call short story)😐

My shakey startups and the misfire code that came soon after was alllllll solely related to a bad spark plug in cylinder one causing misfire code on cylinder 1. I used the Troque pro to clear the engine light, it didn't come back yesterday but it just came up today but with a different code Cylinder 1 mis-fire. Do you think its the water pump gone bad that cause engine over heat that gives a mis-fire code? I got heat inside the cabin though. My coolant is NOT leaking. Should I just replace the water pump that will solve the mis-fire problem too?

    • @helpyourfellowhuman
      @helpyourfellowhuman  4 роки тому +2

      Sorry I took so long to answer. If you have a misfire and you are not losing coolant at all, it should be either a coil or a plug. Change the plugs to see what happens, if that doesn't fix it just buy 1 coil for the bad cylinder. Regarding the water pump, I don't think it has anything to do with the misfire but i would definitely replace it as you don't want the car or the inverter to overheat. That would cause major problems!! Good Luck!

The thing is about Hybrid cars, they do turn into a money pit as they age. The battery replacement cost for a brand new battery will likely be more than what the car is worth. They aren't cheap to fix out of warranty as the Hybrid components on Hybrids are very expensive once they do break down as they age. People DO NOT fill your radiator with stop leak garbage. It may seal the head gasket temporarily but it will also plug the fine ports in the engine , radiator and heater core. This will cost you so much more money later when you have to replace all the other parts it plugs up. I only would use that garbage if I was stranded in a area I had no way of getting home. Also his lower radiator hose clamp isn't fully on the thermostat, that will be a issue for sure.

      Yes. I listed the car on hyrecar and it's been rented out for 4 days so far. I think my sons 2012 prius is starting to show the same symptoms so I plan to make a better video when I fix it. I'll post it here if/when I do.

      Don't do stupid things for head gasket. It won't last long and you ruin heater cores, radiator, waterpump, etc. Heater core job is 14 hours, more than the head gasket. You will have to remove the AC box and additional 5 h labor for AC vacuum and recharge refrigerant with special AC oil, non conductive ND11. It is hell a lot more problems by doing this K-seals unless you will trade it in to Stealership right away

    $100 to fix a Prius head gasket?!? That’s a lot of tampons going into that car.

    I've replaced my engine and I'm still having this problem. My car rattles when it starts and the guy who replaced the engine said it's the engine mount. I just don';t know what to do from here. I already paid for the used engine.

      Replace the head gasket is the only solution, it's a weekend project with some basic set of tools.

      Maybe he never replace engine? Or got an engine that had the same issue since it seems to be a common problem. Also was the original engine diagnose correctly? A leak down test can be used to see if a cylinder is leaking and from where. Was there mixture of coolant in the oil? Where you loosing coolant or no heat inside the car. Also a borescope can be used to look inside cylinder that's misfiring, top of piston will probably have different pattern of carbon deposits if antifreeze is entering or look wet. Also might get lucky and see antifreeze inside, especially if car has been sitting for days or weeks. Check spark plugs for clues also. If you don't have a borescope try looking in there with a flashlight or stick a rod to see if it gets some moisture in the tip in the misfiring cylinder/s

      Hi. I retired recently and had no more use for the car. Sent it along with all my other cars to the auction and sold 10 days ago. It ran well for the time I had it. Don't know how long it will last but it served me well.

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole 2 роки тому

      @@levijessegonzalez3629 I hope you do not put them too much. Do flush several times, you should have no problem. The particles are so small, it will be clogged at one point but if it does not, it is never too late. Just flush several times with pure water, maybe 2-3 times from the drain of the radiator. The water pump has a plastic propeller with a nylon bearing and is pretty soft. Adding stop leaks is not a good idea for your water pump. Stop leaks is for disposable car that you do not want to put more money and want to dump the car after it stop running.

    Ah, nooo those leak "fix" cans cause it to plug the cooling passages radiator and heater core and the cylinders over heat unevenly. The job can be done in a day or two to replace the head gasket, then you know it's done right.

This product will ruins Heater core, water pump, radiator, exhaust lines etc. $2000 head gasket jobs will be $5000 job replacing heater core (14 hours labor), radiator, water pump, heat exchanger ($2000),etc. May work if you want just to sell it fast or trade it in in Stealership

      Yes adding sealant in cooling system is bad idea. Just learn how to DIY and the knowledge of having done your own gasket replacement will be pretty useful for every other car project down the line prius or not.
