I have been suffering from knee and low back pain since 2018. No body told me anything useful that can give me relief until now. I got in contact with your videos not more than a week now. I have followed your videos on baby squarts and they helped so much. I have added these ones for knee again. The world indeed is a small village now. One can get help no matter what region he or she is living. Thanks so much my dear Dr.

Dr. Middaugh you are the best. Thank you for your videos explaining your exercises and demonstrating them. I have been doing physical therapy for years for a knee injury, had arthroscopy and knee surgery over the years. Now I have to have a knee replacement to finally get normal range of motion and strength. My knee has been slightly bent since the injury first surgery. I have never understood why the PT couldn't straighten my leg and have had limitations to stoop, all cartilage shattered and removed. I just want to walk normally with no limitations. Your exercises were never shown to me by any of my PT people and you have been so helpful to show exercises that really work. Bless you and your practice.

I found this whilst searching about knee replacement.
I have been doing the glute strengthening exercises and these stretching exercises. Over a period of a month I usually have 2-4 days of excruciating pain requiring meds (high dose cocodamol and Naproxen), 7 days of no pain and the remainder in the 1-6 bracket sometimes needing meds (ibuprofen and low dose cocodamol). What this regimen has done is put it in the low band most of the time but no need for meds. I am hoping as the flexibility and glutes improve this reduces. But it's good not to be stuffing meds down my throat to survive the day.
Just thank you for making it simple and accessible. Sharing with people who need it.

Love this! I can't wait to see how things work out doing these new stretches. My last few physical and occupational therapists hurt me so bad i was not able to walk after they left and OT would literally yank my arms to try to stretch the contractures in my elbows. I decided to take things in my own hands and I've been doing so much better. I hope with these new stretches things get even better.

Hi, it’s been 7 months ever since my mom had knee surgery. She is able to move one of her knee freely but the other keeps swelling, she keeps referring about stiffness in the corner of the joint section. This makes her movements very stiff. The doctor around our area suggested that it could be because there is some issue in the corners and we should be focusing on exercises which helps in corner muscle movements. Can you suggest something on this?

Hi Tillytogs, You're welcome! Thank you for joining us all the way from Ireland.🇮🇪 We do hope this was able to bring you some relief. Just in case you are interested we have a playlist for knee arthritis help. You can access it here:
      “Knee Arthritis Help”
      ua-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1maa9YF-WmKLF7oI4VoczH8i.html
Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.
We hope you found this information helpful to you. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

Thank you. I found this older video of yours. Your advice and diagnosis are spot on: I had been using a standup desk in the last 4 to 5 years, convinced that this was better than sitting in front of the computer all day. Since the pandemic, I further intensified my working-while-standing up habit, folding in ballet bar exercises and (over)stretching, even jump roping in between as I worked. The prolonged standing up and over stretching did me in: Six to eight weeks ago, I woke up with stiff knees and this has persisted. Your stretching tips, including tips on walking down the stairs by engaging the glutes and with knees turned out, are helping alleviate the stiffness. I now sit on a stool while working and have eased up on my active lifestyle.

Thank you, Doc ! I just came from seeing a "surgeon" because the other guy, another Doc., my 2nd one told me the MRI info showed I could continue to skip & run (similar to my PT; I think she probably knew I was without cartilage, now bone to bone, hurrying me out the door, not knowing what else to do with me, encouraging me to continue run and skip exercises). So, the surgeon today was only to give me "layman's terms" from the MRI, because the 2nd guy had not given the truth, then leaving the business, putting me with the surgeon, laving my GP to tell me things looked "bad" on my MRI info; she encouraged me to seek out another Orthopaedic, or to ask him for a reference. So, here I am with YOU, and I LOVE what you are teaching me. Mine is "bone on bone", and the surgeon was eager to do surgery, even showing me to physical items and how they will be put together.
I just said to him, " I'll give it some thought", while the other part, I knew this wasn't what I wanted to do without further information. Ok, where do I go from here to obtain the "stages"? I give you a "thumbs up !"

Very helpful, thank you. Guessing I have knee arthritis with stiffness that has developed since I started PT because of left medial meniscus tear. I didn’t want to wait 6 weeks to get in to see the orthopedic doc’s PA so asked PCP to refer me to PT. The pain from the meniscus tear has resolved, but the exercises the PT is having me do…a lot of stretching of the thigh, hips, calves and strengthening of thigh, glutes…I’ve developed severe tightness around my left knee with bending feeling like there is a tight band around it! I want to do the stretching daily, but maybe it’s too much right now? Your recommended movements are already helpful and I will continue them. I have received an authorization for an MRI - the original X-ray report did not mention any arthritis and I have never had any problems with my knees (70 years old). The therapist thinks because of the limited ROM from my 20 year old right ankle replacement that my left knee was compensating and finally said “enough!” I have my son getting married in another 10 days and was wanting to be able to do the Mother and Son dance with him without too many problems…hoping the MRI will show what the actual problem is and we can go from there but that isn’t for another 2 weeks. Guess I’ll just treat it as if I do have knee arthritis - shouldn’t hurt anything if I listen to my body.

I have arthritis in both of my knees with the left one feeling more severe. After walking or being on my feet for 20 minutes my left knee becomes stiff (I’m on my feet all day at my job). It feels like a piece of wood. Unfortunately I can’t have PT for my knee since I’m doing PT for my shoulder. I did the exercises in this video & it wasn’t stiff! I just feel slight pain by my knee cap (maybe I should eliminate moving it). I’ll have to try these stretches in the mornings when I’ll be on my feet & see how long the effects lasts. Also, I had my first gel injection today. I’ll definitely watch your other videos. Thank you!

You have made such a difference in my knee health. I really messed my knee up during the two years I was hobbling around while my shattered ankle healed. But your recommendations have help me understand the mechanics of my knee movement and the exercises/stretches have strengthened my surrounding muscles. I once thought I was headed for knee surgery, but now, most days I am almost pain free. Thank you, thank you

Your explanations and examples are so relatable. This is perfect video for exactly whst was happening to me yesterday. I was in the kitchen cooking up a gourmet dinner... lots of food prepping and cooking things on the stove for a long time. After eating, i took the stairs and my legs felt like they're made of steel or bricks. It was so bad... i had to go lie down in bed. Your examples are wonderful, it helps us connect to what we are doing for the pain to flare up... because sometimes we are unsure particularly if osteoarthritis is a fairly new diagnosis and we are trying to navigate and figure things out.

    Hello!
I have had problems with my knees for many years and the help I have received has only made it worse, as my thigh muscles are too strong. Now I have done your exercises and feel a difference. But is it common to get tight / stiff in the calf and Achilles tendons and in the arch of the foot?
