For my money, the five vocalists I pay to see in any era of rock / metal music (there are toss-ups or tiers)... 5) Layne Staley / Chester Bennington (4) Freddie Mercury / Serj Tankian (3) David Draiman / Jonathan Davis / Zakk Wylde / Ivan Moody (2) Bon Scott / Robert Plant / OZZY / Corey Taylor (1) Maynard James Keenan / Chris Cornell
I came here to see if his live voice was as good and powerful as it is in the studio version.
My respect for him just got bigger
R.I.P. L.S
its Layne Staley dude... ive said enough, greatest singer ive seen in my entire life.
Monster voice full of emotion you don’t hear today.
He was better live, Unplugged near dead he is still incredible.
Totally
Even better live! Fed off the energy from the crowd. The crowd must've been amazing that night!
I just discovered AIC at 20 and I'm glad to have found it.
That chorus is outstanding. Layne's power and control of his voice is on another level.
This. Never. Gets. Old.
this performance is honestly in my opinion there best ive ever seen.
I'm 24 and didn't grow up on this music. I found it on my own as a preteen and I've been absolutely hooked ever since. I binged all their music immediately. Then I learned Layne's story and literally grieved for a year. Never felt something like that before for someone I met. I'd get this insane heaviness in my heart thinking about him. Still happens from time to time, and I randomly get overwhelmed with happiness to the point of tears listening to aic. Truly the best band ever imo
I am 62 in South Africa, only found AIC about 1 year ago, brilliant, especially this song/concert.
Man only if he knew today how much people love, respect, and acknowledge his talent. Favorite band and lead of all time.
Possibly the best live vocal performance in history. Goosebumps and tears. Damn Layne was the best.
Love, Hate, Love live at the Moore
@@watanukiaprilfirst. great suggestion totally agree!
Nahhhhhhhhhh
This footage is so fucking raw, Layne was one of the greatest Rocksingers ever living. His control compared with his raspy voice, fucking insane.
These early performances where Layne feels good and is into it are magnificent. He hits those notes with ease. There’s no comparison with anyone alive and never will be. Layne was in a league of his own
RIP Layne
LOL
It’s so fucking raw and refined at the same time. These vocals are absolutely insane.
It doesn't matter what you think of AIC and their music, Layne's vocals here are phenomenal.
So grateful I grew up during the 90’s music era.
Yep. Thank God for listening to this on my 80's radio. LOL! This song was life for me back then.
I m born in the wrong era.. im from 99
@@UndeadSasuke34 I was a teenager in the 90's lol I grew up in the 80's and 90's
@@amyames1979 u so lucky
You are so lucky :-(
Honor Layne Staley's memory by fighting addiction and getting help early and often. RIP one of the best vocalists ever.
Fuck opioids but coke definitely makes you way more capable of singing like Layne
@@dereksiegel255hey man get the fuck out of here with that glorifying drugs shit
He sounds so damn good live. I much rather listen to this performance than the actual studio recording. The intencity he brings 3:41 and forward is unmatched.
definitely one of the top 10 heavy metal/grunge songs of all time! MAYBE THE TOP!
Heavy metal?????
XD XD XD
this is GRUNGEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Grunge doesn’t exist just heavy metal (or alternative metal)
@@arimitraniWith that logic, heavy metal doesn't exist either, just rock n roll.
It is GRUNGE. Period. Things has a name for a fucking reason. Heavy and alternative metal sounds radically different aswell.
@@bryanlizana2352 I mean AiC is one of the more metal bands of grunge like Nirvana is more punk-influenced
Aic not grunge..alt metal hard rock blues rock
I may create another account just to "Like" this twice!
I don’t think people understand how crazy it is that they’re opening with Man In The Box at this show. It wasn’t their single yet. It’s absolute nonsense how good they were so young.
One of a kind. Especially Layne.
Alice in Chains is their own genre.
This proves that Layne had the best set of lungs to ever walk the planet . 4.34 mins of the G.O.A.T at work :)
Oh yeah. This takes serious lung capacity to sing, especially at this volume.
Jerry’s tone is THICK
THICC
That’s how we like it
Obviously Cantrell is a huge fan of Iommi's playing
This band was pure magic in every way
One of the most amazing vocalist of hard rock of all the times .
As a lifelong guitarist I cant say I listen to this band primarily for guitar like all the other bands I love. I fucking am mesmerized by Laynes voice and this performance is one of his bests.
Layne was the best but boy Mike Starr could tear that bass up.
Dalton Collins extremely underrated bassist.
Mike Starr the way he stomps his foot is sexy
Thank you for that Comment!!!
I was there. Wanted to get pictures with the band after the show but a huge fight broke out and meet and greets got canceled. People are asshats sometimes. Never had another chance to meet these guys before he died. Great show. Most live performances were better than the album versions. True talent 👏
That's so cool you were there, I can only dream
For one brief, shining moment in time, Layne Staley put down what I consider to be the greatest rock vocal of all time. And you were there to witness it.
Love the fact its uploaded in black n white
Layne was nothing short of incredible.
The moment when Layne loses control over himself during the last chorus is just incredible. I wonder if his dramatic life wasnt the price he had to pay to possess such voice.
The power in Layne's vocals in this performance is awesome!
The way that Layne hits the chorus near the end is mind blowing. I literally said wow out loud watching this and I don’t even know how
Jerry and Mike could keep playing after that. Lol I would have had chills hearing him hit that.
Long gone are the days of vocalist of this caliber
No joke! I don't care if it makes me sound old and bitter, but none of these modern, disposable "rock" singers are even in the same universe as Staley, Vedder, and Cornell.
I am 59 and love their music.
I'm 14 and Love Grunge and Rock music from the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. For me everything what's popular today is shit.
54 and still one of my favorites.
I am 19 and I still love Slayer, Judas priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Pantera, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Anthrax, Death
I'm 63 and rock & roll runs in my vains. No fucking tech.No fucking rap,no fucking beats whatsoever.I got a "Jar of Flies" some 10 years ago.My pleasure is to see (listen) those flies flying 'round my ears.
Peace
@@90sgrunge26 ohhh wow you are so great and different
Was at the Seattle pop culture museum today and I got to see this guitar. Almost cried.
I love how around :40 seconds in Jerry is going full blown, rocker bat shit, head banger crazy, and Layne looks over at him like, “oh hey dude, nice boots. Did you purchase them locally?” Just another day at the AIC office!
😂😂
Magnificent vocal performance. Incredibly impactful, powerful. Detail: Anyone else dig the way he sings the word "beat"?
Gregory Bower yeah man I wish he said it like that in the studio version
I love it
immmm the dogggg who gets BEAT
This literally sounds better than than the studio version, which is already great!
The lead singer was the glue that made that band with his voice. He had it all with that voice projection.
God Layne was such a phenomenal singer, rest in peace buddy🙏🏼
Everyone always classified them as a "Grunge" band, but they were waaaay more Groove Metal than anything.
This is practically a Funk rhythm section with Metal chord progressions, amazing record.
Liberty City El grung is a mix of punk metal and rock they just leaned more to metal
I always thought of them as pure rock n roll in a new era away from 80s hair bands
@@moaazkhalil1028 Grunge really isn't a genre at all. None of the so called "grunge" bands sound remotely similar. In the early 90s if you were a band from Washington, wrote depressing lyrics, and wore ratty clothes, you were labled grunge. Alice in Chains is a metal band, through and through.
@@slimbrady6691 Too Late, This is called nothing but Grunge music Genres
@@nolandavis2927 That didn't make a damn bit of sense.
The drumming adds such a great bottom to this fantastic performance.
I love how Sean Kinney does the little flip with his head it’s so sexy But mike Starr made me appreciate bass again. He could pound that guitar. Sooo sick now that was sexxxxxxyyy
@@hnyweelz8771 The way Mike stomped his foot makes him look so cool. Coolest bass guitar player.
Hfdz pj I don’t think I’ve really appreciated any bass player till him and actually since. He played it like no other. Don’t get me wrong i like the new Mike he’s very good but it something about mike starrs way he plays it. I saw Jerry interviewed and he said that they had to rent a bass during some shows for mike (I don’t know why) but they had to tape a diaper on the back side so he didn’t scratch it up because of the way he plays it so hard. Lol. True story I saw it in an interview.
That third chorus is incredible I crie evry tiem
This is no doubt one of the best live rock performances of all time. I challenge anyone to refute this fact. AIC 4 ever, Layne 4 ever.
this is a great performance, but there are many better rock performances than this, probably the most notable: queen at live aid
Queen was good at live aid. Freddy had some hiccups. But this one comes in a close close close second.
TheOutsidersPost bullshit
Not bullshit.
Freddie had done hiccup. Are you dense?
Airdrome- I agree wholeheartedly.. this is top 5 without question
Such a haunting voice 🥹Layne left behind such a hole that NOBODY could ever feel …..RIP YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED
His voices has a unmatched presence, you can still feel it today. Miss you Layne ❤️🤘
The classic hair shaking. I absolutely adore it.
@3:42 he used so much breath, his damn glasses slid off because his head shrank.
