Singers. Perfect 4th harmonies are so tough because they're only a quarter step down and it's so easy to get pulled into blending vs harmonizing and these guys did it for years like they were asleep.

I love the video of Steel Panther covering it live. They were joined by Jerry Cantrell himself, grabbing the guitar, and Sully Erna from Godsmack grabbing the mic. Just before the chorus, Steel Panther's singers smiles at Sully and says "good luck!" :D
Sully did pretty well though, for someone who is not Layne.

Bo McCoy I was in college and heavy into British music and punk at the time, but appreciated what all these bands were doing. They rid the world of Vanilla Ice and Wilson Phillips... let’s face it. AIC especially as this song had become more commercially successful well before Nevermind did. Impossible not to be in the car and hear this song on the radio at least once during a 10 minute drive - and not scream it and love it. Now that I’m an old person, I appreciate it more. Back then it was just a guilty pleasure. Now I recognize the profound contribution they made to music.

Jerry would def understand y'all love for Layne's voice. He was so blown away by Layne when he first heard him that he said he wasn't giving up until he was in a band with him. Layne was hesitant though. So Jerry, Sean & Mike auditioned other singers in Layne's practice room just to try to nudge him and it worked. Jerry said the other singers were so bad that Layne finally said, "Alright I'm in... I can't let y'all play with any of those bozos". (And the rest is history)

You can tell that Layne is putting his entire body and soul in that chorus, it is THAT powerful. I had mentioned in another comment that this came out at the end of the "hair metal" era and it was SO different, in many ways, from anything metal/rock fans had heard up until then. I was 15, and while I liked hair metal, I was tired of the songs about cruising around and trying to get laid, etc. that was played on the radio (the more thrashy stuff didn't get radio play where I lived so I had to rely on headbangers ball to discover new music lol).
Anyway. All that to say, goddamn I miss Layne.
Great reaction guys! (Also, please do "rain when I die" for more beautiful harmonies and mindblowing choruses from Layne ❤)

This is by far my favorite music reaction channel. I'll watch a lot of reaction videos when I find a particular song that gets a good reaction, and so often it's just someone nodding their head to the song, and just saying "wow! That song was crazy! Alright like this video and subscribe for more reactions!" at the end.
The way you guys actually take time to give your thoughts and opinions about the sound, lyrics, and even the timeline of one song compared to other songs or albums or bands, gives way more depth to these videos than every other music reaction channel I've seen. Not to mention you just seem like cool guys with entertaining personalities. I can tell you guys really enjoy the songs you enjoy, and are honest when you're not feeling a song. It's not all about appeasing fans, it's about the music itself, and y'all get it. Keep up the good work!

there are some songs in life that leave such a lasting impression and memory on you; this was one of those moments for me. I was 19 working for some inventory-taking company driving all over the bay area of California to different stores. On one day this song debuted on a hardcore station out of San Jose never played before I was driving the company van and just sat in the parking lot and couldn''t move i was like kicked in the face by this and was just floored. Never heard anything like it - it was black sabbath-esque but harder and creepier. So I couldn't wait to get back home and rushed out the record store and bought the CD and listened to the whole thing 3 or 4 times straight. They became my new favorite band and kept that priviledge with me until I heard Godsmack about 9 years later. Thanks for doing this one boys and letting me relive that experience in my mind.

Way back in the 1990s when I saw this song on MTV and heard that voice I was totally in awe. I heard it right now and yeah same reaction again. Chills on arm, as well. Very distinctive, powerful, emotional voice. He'll always be a legend.

At 15:38 on the last chorus when Layne holds the note out and you hear Ryan say 'sing it man' almost to himself, you know thats when its hitting him just how insane Layne's voice was. Gone too soon.

Jerry Cantrell is one of my fav guitar players. It's hard not to love AIC. The connection Layne and Jerry had harmonizing together was something that doesn't come around very often.

Couldn’t agree more. It wasn’t just the sound of AIC itself..
The harmony that Jerry has Layne had was unmistakable. As I am typing this, I’m honestly trying to think of other lead singer/lead guitarists who could sing that had great harmony with each other.

I think they don’t realize that this preceded nirvanas “Teen spirit”. Ultimately this was the first real commercial song for grunge in 1991.

“Feed my eyes (Can you sew them shut?) Jesus Christ (Deny your maker) He who tries (will be wasted) Feed my eyes (Now you've sewn them - shut)”. They are actually pretty profound lyrics.

Layne Staley's voice is that of a tortured angel who has descended into the darkness. If Satan put together a band to steal souls - this would be it.
