I would put them on top 10 , but not top 1 . Because of Iron Maiden, Savatage, Blind Guardian, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Symphony X, Helloween and Laura Pausini (considering their best moments only)
Im sorry guys did symphony x,iron maiden etc ever compose a songs like count on tuscany, best of times, dance of eternity,no way not even close but because of the vocalist people criticize tats it ...
Rudess’ continuum FB intro gives me chills every goddamn time... it’s so angelic and peaceful. It’s the kind pf music i would like to have at my funeral, since it gives so much hope and relaxation
Tell you what....fuck whatever music you're into, everyone needs to hear the last 4 minutes of this masterpiece at least....such a complete sound that sends chills down my spine every time...
God these guys........ like every high school nerd gone right. Rippin it up! I love this band, got me through a lot❤️ not trying to impress with anything but their talent. They were born to do this. Raw. And people who hate synth/keys have to watch this. Somehow they seemed to make it look like they played this live In The late 70’s awesome. And the last face melt guitar solo...come on!
Thank you for posting my favourite Dream Theater song in this live version. James’ voice was pretty much spot on to the studio version. The only thing I don’t really like is Jordan Rudess playing so loud as to drown out John Myung on Bass. Mike Portnoy’s vocals were spot on and John Petrucci’s guitar was perfect as always. This is an epic track and NOT a medley as someone has commented on here. IMHO the best ever Prog rock track.
I rarely like DT after Kevin Moore went out from the band, but this song is amazing. Especially the third part, Full Circle, is mindblowing !! It seems like if the song before that part is the calm, from there begins the storm, reflected even in the lyrics where the disorder takes place of the order (Jack The Ripper, Owens Wilson, Phillips and my Supper's Ready for example). AMAZING !!
Not a medley. This is the live version of the title track from the album Octavarium. 24 minutes long on the studio album. THIS is what prog rock is about!
And this wasn't their best performance. Their best live performance of Octavarium was Score. And they had the extra pressure of playing with a goddamn orchestra.
Marco Visconti consider that he has a rotating set list every single night and has to perform a bunch of songs that 1. He didn’t write lyrics to 2. Are 10+ minutes long 3. Haven’t been played live in years...some like 15 years at that point, some he’d never done before that tour. 4. Jet lag, illness, all other things that are involved with being in a band that tours as heavily as DT does. It’s not hard and I definitely do not think that James gets the credit he deserves
Great performance, although everyone’s a little bit all over the place 😁 Mike changing the tempo every 2 minutes, John and Jordan’s solos a bit unsyncronized, a few wrong notes (even by Myung!), they must’ve been a bit tired. But despite all that, they nailed it as always 🤟🏾
I have nothing wrong against Backing Tracks and I understand why they are being used, but the simple factor that LaBrie goes there and triggers the chords makes the whole live experience more organic. Also miss his percussion jams. It seems that lately everything is about making the same show clock-controlled every night.
Holy shit I'm glad this isn't the version that was on Score. O_O Damn. Much less life and obviously the Octavarium Orchestra was FANTASTIC. This is cut as if it was for a DVD though, where and when is this from? Besides being Chile, like what DVD or whatever is this on?
to me it just shows how genius Rudess is. The way he programs his keyboard to play orchestra-like sounds is just mind-blowing. Without watching the video, it would be hard to believe that this kind of song is only played by 4 instruments.
Outstanding performance by the dads of math rock, and rhythmic harmony here. The vocals at during the climax 10:35 were somewhat disappointing though...
I think that's what they were going for, really. The tension is building up and up and it gets so frantic and tiring, seeming to go on for ages, which is how the protagonist feels.
Why? its just an in ear monitor, not a lick track. Pretty much impossible the hit the drums that hard and hear the rest of the band otherwise.... atleast without massive hearing damage. Hes the only one who really has to wear it because when you hit a cymbal 2 ft from your head you cant hear any high frequencies so for something like a guitar/keyboard solo its essential he can hear them over those cymbals.
@@juanjo55lol Mike Portnoy was speeding up a little and John Myung being the bassist has to keep him in check but Mike Portnoy was still going too fast!
This was not supposed to be a recorded performance. Portnoy always had all shows recorded anyway, but the ones that were meant for a live official release, like Score, have an obviously better camwork. I think this was released in YtseJam Records, where he used to release demos, rare live performances and stuff for the fanclub.

@@MrModicum I looked it up, and listened to an interview he gave about it.
