I did a project about dream theater for my senior year music theory class. We had to pick musical influencers and make a video about them. The last like 7 minutes or so (the whole thing was 15-20) was about this song. I put clips in, and talked about how filled to the brim with secrets it was. My teacher listened to the full song and said it was one of the most complex and interesting pieces of music he ever heard.
LaBrie's face at 5:00 - "When Jordan will realize that the crowd is nearly asleep?!?" 5:07 - "Finally. Wake up guys, the song is about to begin!" 5:26 - Okay, a few more minutes. It ain't over yet ...
i don't understand why people waste their time with music they have no clue on. Really, there's a lot of easy listening around, go search for it. If you don't catch the first part of the song, you're missing the greatest part of it. What the hell are you doing here...
@@SirPraiseSun Yep. For many years full circle was my favorite but now razors edge and Petrucci's solo takes me to whole another world every single time, not to mention Jordan's orchestration in the background.
Whilst personal opinion doesn't matter much in terms of ranking things given how everyone has their tastes, I can't help but say this is probably one of the best works of music ever written.
I discovered Dream Theater more than 20 years ago, I listened to them quite compulsively at some time, and I think they keep on surprising me all the time, discovering new details on songs, appreciating their creativity, enjoying the feelings they can transmit, getting you to just blow your mind. And this happens to me like in a circle, like in an Octavarium
GREATEST DT song according to me... songwriting is something else, so mature, building of the song is very gradual and every second is worthy...and that final solo... Octavarium is a modern transposition of '70s prog rock and it not disfigure beside the classical masterpieces of the genre.
Hell, if I made half the performance Portnoy made here I'd be crying with joy that I actually achieved something. Though to your credit you have shown something beautiful, that being that the dude's human and that you've a drummers ear, and I think we both know that despite one missable slip in a kickass performance we can raise our sticks for the lad!

I just proved it's totally possible to dance to DT, with this song..... Totally spontaneous, and I haven't danced in years. God that felt so good. The right place, the right time, and THE RIGHT MUSIC!
eso fue en Stgo - Chile en 2005.... Lo recuerdo muy bien..... That was in Santiago in 2005.... the very first fckn time in Chile!!!!!! It was overwhelming....
I think octavarium is one of the best DT songs....
so true!
One of the greatest songs of all times ...
it's the only one I'm listening to in this group ! :p
The masterpiece
Second best Song

18:43
“Looking ass reaching balls”!
I’m laughing so hard portnoy is an absolute LEGEND
Also 18:56 Reaching my ass only to
I want to see a song written by Portnoy, Claypool, and Maynard.
I was like wtf?? that wasn't the word I expected
Im surprised nobody in else in the band burst out laughing
AHAHAHA classic portnoy was so cheesy back then
The people who dislike this music have no idea about this art.
Maybe because they add some advertising in the middle of this masterpiece, cheers 😅
LaBrie's face at 5:00 - "When Jordan will realize that the crowd is nearly asleep?!?"
5:07 - "Finally. Wake up guys, the song is about to begin!"
5:26 - Okay, a few more minutes. It ain't over yet ...
Carlos Alberto R.N da Costa the first 6 minutes are painful
Best part of the song to me.

KremIsis Can’t you let the man have an opinion?
@@Scottjf8 thats the most beautiful part of it
So Floyd,so Genesis!!!Perfect!!!
queen: thats 6 bloody minutes, nobody will listen to that.
dream theater: *hold my beer*
I skip the first 6 mins here 3 mins on the studio version.. lol
I do! Part one of the Octavarium!
First six minutes: Synth intro
That's for this part that I re-listened to Octavarium and found it to a be a pillar of DT !
"hold my rock juice"
20:04
That riff is absolutely insane!
I've had goosebumps throughout whole song. But damn Full Circle is my favorite part.
They are not from our Planet 😁AMAZING ♥️
razor edge n outro so epic too
@@SirPraiseSun
Yep. For many years full circle was my favorite but now razors edge and Petrucci's solo takes me to whole another world every single time, not to mention Jordan's orchestration in the background.
Dream Theater at its finest.
They are Great artists who gives us Great stories. Nothing has give me feelings and wisdom with words and sound like this Great Boys.🙏
Whilst personal opinion doesn't matter much in terms of ranking things given how everyone has their tastes, I can't help but say this is probably one of the best works of music ever written.
For me Octo, Tuscany and ACOS. I decided not to try to rank these any more. My favorite songs ever.
I can’t describe what genre this music is. It’s just gods music and transports me to a different planet when ever I hear this song
7:18 anybody else get goosebumps at this part?
Yep
In the solo actually.
Yeah the two different outros right before razors edge and right after holy crap
I get goosebumps for 27 minutes straight
Intro had me in a Floyd memory...This is a compliment....No better influence....You guys ROCK!!!
lol james @ 5:00 is like come on jordan, you're the only one who is having fun
LOL
LaBrie is the real MVP though, helping the Wizard with his solo.
Not gonna lie, that 7 minute intro is waaay to long. Should have been 2 minutes tops. But then again, that's DT so I don't know what I expected.
It's a Great opera .....fantastic....wonderfool

This is the first case of someone who is *really* trapped inside an Octavarium
I've been trapped in this Octavarium since 1995
Tidak ada yg menumpang..mereka bekerja semua.mereka berkualitas semua..indonesia mencintai musik ini❤
GREATEST DT song according to me... songwriting is something else, so mature, building of the song is very gradual and every second is worthy...and that final solo... Octavarium is a modern transposition of '70s prog rock and it not disfigure beside the classical masterpieces of the genre.
Music so complex even the video is failing to sync with the sound...
The best Pink Floyd song that they never composed.
Sajjad AriaKian so fucking true
I always say Dream Theater is like a cousin to Pink Floyd
This is beyond Pink Floyd
There's also A LOT of Emerson, Lake and Palmer in this too
@@ild4099 I call them modern Pink Floyd
The composition of the song is amazing.
I never watch this before....
and I am speechless Just Say The greatest Ever
Oh my god . . .
Now I know finally know what I have ears for !
12:30 My heart was utterly melting with this bassline.
Beautifully & brilliantly done
20:46 Drummers knows what i'm talking about.
hahaa...even God makes a tiny error once in a while :D
Im not even a musician and i can tell something is really wrong there haha
He also made a booboo at 17:10
Hahhahaa portnoy still human bro😅🤣
Hell, if I made half the performance Portnoy made here I'd be crying with joy that I actually achieved something. Though to your credit you have shown something beautiful, that being that the dude's human and that you've a drummers ear, and I think we both know that despite one missable slip in a kickass performance we can raise our sticks for the lad!
Ovtavarium is the stairway to heaven of dream theater.
its sooooo amazing. i have tears in my eyes
Absolutely love the beginning
Masterpiece.... as always :-) Happy 14th anniversary Octavarium! ❤ ❤ ❤
Una belleza, sublime!!!
Wow......What a GREAT Band!
Masterpiece of all masterpieces!
An absolute masterpiece
I never wanted to become someone like him
So secure content to live each day just like the last
I was sure I knew that this was not for me
And I wanted so much more
Far beyond what I could see
So I swore that I'd
Never be someone like him
So many years have passed
Since I proclaimed my independence
My mission
My aim
And my vision
So secure content to live each day like it's my last
It's wonderful to know that I could be
Something more than what I dreamed
Far beyond what I could see
Still I swear that I'm
Missing out this time
As far as I could tell
There's nothing more I need
But still I ask myself
Could this be everything?
Then all I swore
That I would never be was now
So suddenly
The only thing
I wanted
To become
To be someone just like him
A doctor sitting next to me
He asks me how I feel
Not sure I understand his questioning
He says I've been away a while
But thinks he has cured me
From a state of catatonic sleep
For 30 years where have I been
Eyes open but not getting through to me
Medicate me, infiltrate me
Side effects appear
As my conscience slips away
Medicate me, science failing
Conscience fading fast
Can't you stop what's happening
A higher dosage he prescribes
But there's no guarantee
I feel it starting to take over me
I tell him not to be ashamed
There's no one who's to blame
A second shot, a brief awakening
I feel the relapse, can't break free
Eyes open but not getting through to me
Medicate me, infiltrate me
Side effects appear
As my conscience slips away
Medicate me, science failing
Conscience fading fast
Can't you stop what's happening?
Sailing on the seven, seize the day, tripper diem's ready
Jack the ripper, Owens Wilson, Phillips and my supper's ready
Lucy in the sky with diamond
Dave's not here, I come to save the day for nightmare
Cinema show me the way to get back home again
Spinning round and round
(Looking outward, reaching in) Scream without a sound
(Leaning over, crawling up) Stumbling all around
(Losing my place only to) Find I've come full circle
Flying off the handle
With careful with that axe
Eugene gene the dance machine
Messiah light my fire gabba gabba
Hey hey, my my generation's home again
Spinning round and round
(Looking outward, reaching in) Scream without a sound
(Leaning over, crawling up) Stumbling all around
(Losing my place only to) Find I've come full circle
Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath
Remove all obstacles from our path
Asking questions, search for clues
The answer's been right in front of you
Try to break through, long to connect
Fall on deaf ears and failed muted breath
Loyalty, trust, faith and desire
Carries love through each darkest fire
Tortured insanity, a smothering hell
Try to escape but to no avail
The calls of admirers who claim they adore
Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more
Innocent victims of merciless crimes
Fall prey to some madmen's impulsive designs
Step after step we try controlling our fate
When we finally start living it's become too late
Trapped inside this Octavarium
Trapped inside this Octavarium
Trapped inside this Octavarium
Trapped inside this Octavarium
We move in circles
Balanced all the while
On a gleaming razor's edge
A perfect sphere
Colliding with our fate
This story ends where it began
Hermosas notas, que talento!!
Jordan be like: imma do a long ass intro of 7 minutes, haha synth go brrbrrrbrr
Impresionantes !!! Como siempre !!
Bravooooo !!!
The build up for so long then to hit that God note at the end always blows me away! Best band in the world!
I love this one! 2019❤️

Those are the true DT... and this song and it's entire album one of their best!
No words about this jewel
Kudos to the madlad gigachad who is putting the lyrics into these live recordings. Thanks man!

This is a pinnacle track of modern music in the last 30 years.

Masterpiece !
Just one word: great
Amazing
Just a perfect song
I yhis this is the best song of the dream theater, very very harmonys n' nice song, good job bro.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah, that last John Petrucci solo is the best F major solo ever written for a guitar. Certainly an epic moment.
The people who disliked... Their intellect can't take in good music for 26 minutes.
Love many parts of this song
18:45 Looking outward, reaching BALLS???
thiagotecnico "Looking ASS, reaching BALLS" and "losing my ASS only to"
B Mico hahahahahahaha didn't noticed that too!!
thiagotecnico looking ass, reaching balls
and the other part he sings "losing my ASS only to"(find i've come full circle)
Portnoy is a legend xD
holy shit eeeeeeeeeeeeepic mike porntoy moment
Incredible!!!

amazing song.
amazing
If that ending vibrato from Petrucci doesn't give you goosebumps, I don't know what will
One of best prog songs ever made !!!
Rudess looks like "The Evil Rudess Twin"
Shine on dream theater

Obra prima, realmente incomparável.

Never noticed LaBrie sustaining the chords for Rudess.
Amazing 🤩 ❤
My favourite song
Grandissimi!

The springy sound of the BASS😌
The best album of DT

Holy fuck, I could listen to Jordan go on for the whole 26 minutes
Can't stand LaBrie though
12:18 John Myung is so cool :)
For me it is the best. The excerpts of DT
Pure Legendary Staff
That Outro is Eargasm
Please do the lyrics version of Octavarium from 20th Anniversary world tour. That was a better performance and had an orchestra too!
