    Just taking the time to consider the value of this free lesson. At 42 looking back at 15 years I would have sat through 5 or six lessons at 15.00 an hour gladly to learn this. I would not have possibly gotten anywhere near this mans level of instruction. UA-cam has us all spoiled, we have access to so much at no cost.
    Thank you Tim Pierce.

    This unassuming looking man is one of the greatest guitar players on the planet. If you passed him on the street you would never suspect that he has played on some of the greatest recordings ever made. Looks can be deceiving, but the talent is incredible. Thank you, Tim, for the passing of your incredible knowledge! I aspire to be half this good and it would make me better than anyone within 100 miles of me.

    How did a guy who started playing at age 15 and died at 27 come up with such cool techniques?
    Been playing for 46 years and this stuff still fascinates me. 👍

      Jimi’s dad was fed up with jimi “air guitaring” and destroying brooms. So, he pawned his sax to get him a guitar. 🤣.

    First, thank you so much for sharing your talent. Second, a quick tale from eons ago as in 1969. I'm 15 1/2 years young and living in Los Angeles when news starts floating round that Mr. Jimi will be playing The Devonshire Fair Grounds. Tickets were $3.50. Sold American! My friend and I are sitting about fifteen feet from Hendrix and my eyes are burning his hands hoping to learn something. ( I learned that I knew nothing yet) My teacher at Lou Adler's Music, and good 'ol Mel Bay books, kept preaching to me about my big thumb creeping up and over the neck but here was The Man himself using his thumb on the low E all over the fret board. When we got home and grabbed our Fenders I found myself trying to plant that E and a whole world opened up while another collapsed. I stopped my lessons and just played every chance I got.

    Whenever I hear this song it makes me want to weep and be thankful for what I have in life. I spent 6 hours now on this and I can play thru it albeit quite slowly. GREAT lesson; very patient teacher. I'm getting to a place I never thought I'd get to Tim. Thanks and bless you.

      All Jimi hendrix recordings are slow and out of tune compared to the original performance.

    I applaud anyone like Tim that dedicates their life to music and finding perfection everyday. Jimi was great because he practiced more than anyone else. He had his guitar where ever he went. Jimi was blessed with incredibly long fingers and large hands, but a man with smaller hands have an advantage too. It all comes down to what your goals are and how hard you want to work at it. Nothing comes easy.

      My guess is that it's people who came for a note for note instruction of the original track off of Axis: Bold As Love, who got turned off as soon as they heard the soloing, and if they waited that out, found out it's just an instruction on the intro. If it's not what you expected and want, you might hit the thumbs down. I didn't, but I'll certainly need to go elsewhere to find the rest of it.

    My favorite guitar teacher. Tim teaches stuff above my ability in such a way that when I'm done with his tutorial I'm playing at a substantially higher level. He has a way of making subtle nuances obvious enough that you can spot and master them.

  • @mjr2470
    @mjr2470 7 років тому +11

    The thing that attracts me to this tutorial is the way Tim explains all of the dynamics of the melody. He really breaks everything down. He also includes the challenges some people may have without long fingers....right up my alley, he gives options/solutions for different situations.

    • @dreyn7780
      @dreyn7780 2 роки тому

      But all hendrix recordings are out of tune.
      They deliberately sell you a recording that plays out of tune.
      They play slow and the notes get stretched and play out of tune.
      You're SO stupid, when you hear the drummer's cowbell sound you can't tell that's not a real cowbell sound.
      Its out of tune and stretched.
      The Only way to get all the OUT OF tune instruments back into tune is to speed up the recording.
      You keep believing the detune lies.
      You are a fuk head, mike. 50 years and YOU still can't hear.
      Give yourself a smack for each year you've wasted.

    Began playing guitar at 8 years old, took some guitar lessons, cut by teeth on sixties folk rock, heard Hendrix and got bit playing through out junior high and high school in a rock band, even in night clubs. Took martial arts in my mid twenties under third ranked world Zen Karate Doe instructor, converted to Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism at 29. Perused many You Tube videos of guitar instructors. Tim Pierce is at that caliber of professionalism of the aforementioned martial arts instructor. Uncanny nuance. Your focus is your reality. Thanks Mr. Pierce!

Looking at album credits you’d see the name Tim Pierce. Truly one of the best studio musicians.

    Great lesson. I've been playing this song for years and you really captured not only the sound, but the feel quite nicely. One small suggestion - on the open C chord at the end of the intro, fret both the E and A notes (4/2 and 3/2) with your middle finger. This will make it much easier to play the C6 chord smoothly and keeps you from having to rush the timing for the following hammer/pull on the second string. I've been playing it this way for a while now and find it easier, once you get used to fretting two notes with the middle finger.

    Thank you Tim for taking the time to break this down for us..
    It is absolutely mind blowing how Jimi wrote something so beautiful and so complex at such a young age!
    The depth of that Man’s work will be studied for centuries..

    Thank you Tim for a really honest and transparent tutorial. I have tried and failed a few times to nail some of the chord shapes necessary to play this, but I've been watching other guitarists who usually have long enough fingers to fret everything without thinking, so they don't point out how some of the chords and double stops can be made a lot easier.

      @@bryanmannoia8410 "Dropped them to play with Better Musicians"?? This is so dopey a thing to say in So many ways. How old are you?? Yeah, I would think only some young know nothing would say such BS! Mitch Mitchel ?? You know who that is right? Mitch was still going to tour right to the end with Hendrix. Only Redding and Jimi had a falling out but not with Mitchel. He wanted to get away from the trio line up and have more musicians in the band. Maybe you should know what yer talking about before opening your mouth.

    • @bryanmannoia8410
      @bryanmannoia8410 5 років тому

      @@rickprol-pc8ds sorry rick, but you disagreeing doesn't make my comment "dopey" as you suggest. it is my opinion. firstly, I am 52. secondly, I own every Hendrix record. thirdly, I play guitar in two different trios. so, again, my opinion is no better or worse than yours. yeah, I know who Mitch is and though he is good he is no buddy miles. Hendrix agreed, because that is who he was playing with when he died, not mitch. I am aware that mitch played in more than just the experience with Jimi, but he was gone at the end and for the better. speaking of dopey, you might want to learn how to express yourself as an adult. if you hadn't added the "how old are you" part I would have thought you to be twenty.
