    This is by far the best lesson I have ever found on 3 years of guitar on UA-cam

    Man I’m 39 and I’ve been playing guitar most of my life but feel like I never made it past intermediate level. UA-cam has so many amazing videos that any kid should be able to become great with people like you giving awesome lessons like this! Thank you!

      back in the day there was amazing guitar talent but like you say, the barrier to entry was way worse for beginners. these days you can get insane quality affordable instruments with all the lessons and inspiration free online. most of us older dudes started out with unplayable instruments and had to buy books etc to learn the songs we liked. Unless of course you could afford good private instruction which was also much more hit and miss back then.

      Same! I was stuck in a rut, took a couple 2-3 years off and picked up again. Been doing the UA-cam’s, learning better habits, back to basics. I held the pick wrong for all of those years

    I swear this is the first time that i have been able to play this intro,you explain it so well, all other tutorials start out with more of a finger picking style solo sorta way, to hard for beginners you make it so much easier thank you

      redrock1963 yeah but hes tooooooo much 'theory' i'll. Bet jimmy never knew any theory at all. Just knew wat he wanted to hear. Like clapton. No theory. Cant read music, just knows wat sounds good. And bad

      @@edwardbamford9816 Haha yes for sur he didn't. Such a talented genius this guy...
      Personally I do need this theory because otherwise I don't remember anything + I love the mathematicals aspect of music. It's super interesting.
      Not saying it's necessary to know that thing to be an artist, and it's not because you know that shit that you are an artist, but it's definitely super interesting.

    I have to agree, very good lesson indeed! I am quity a newby and am struggling a bit right at the start already ... Can you please explain, what exactly is meant with "the harmonics" at the beginning? Is it just about playing the high and low E string while muting the other strings or or what's the trick?

    Yes indeed, theory is good to know. If you check out the chords on other Hendrix songs, you'd recognize that his songs are slippery--they slip in and out of related keys, each joined somehow. So, speaking theoretically, the F# chord in E natural minor is half diminished, not the diminished one demonstrated at the start. Now, if you want to look at the chords in the second part, you might first recognize that the A after the Bm and Bflat is a major version--so one can think of (and hear) some parallel images of B descending to A, and then G descending to F and then to a C, the latter three being a V-IV-I in the key of C. At that point the C becomes the flat VI in the original key of Emin and the progression ascends diatonically: C-D-Emin. Overall, the chords are not entirely diatonic (the A major and F major are not), but they are idiomatic to Jimi's physically slippery guitaristic music idiom. That's all!

    when it takes a paragraph to explain the next note you're going to play I get lost and forget what song you're playing. Very hard to digest. I guess I'm not cut out for theory and all that stuff. I'd rather you just show me how to play it and for those who need to know why a note fits here or there you can tell them . I don't need to know why two apples equals the number two, I can see it, likewise if you show me, I can hear where they go.

    • @paulkrupa
      @paulkrupa 6 років тому +1

      That is what a lot of people would call "genius". Take a complex idea and play it in such a way that it sounds simple. But deconstruct it as maestro does here and you see what Hendrix internalized. Personally, I like this teaching method because the chord structure exposes its route and the transitions can be more readily understood and anticipated.

    Anyone like Don Henley so obsessed with copyright protection that young artists are forced to take down video covers demonstrating different styles, for example, Gabriella Quevedo and her beautiful finger-style rendition of Hotel California (20 million views, performed when she was 17) , are cutting the throats of their own songs.
