Two iconic synth solos I grew up with by the great Steve Porcaro, this one on Lido and the big solo in Rosanna. Boz's voice is so perfect for this song!

@@beachgirl4583 😂 - You're RIGHT! It's his jacket, btw - but his eyes glancing back and forth, as if he's slightly annoyed 🤨😆 ! Also: appreciate how the studio jam is seamlessly mixed with that live performance - this is one of those gems why I like YT. In interviews, Steve Lukather always called Jeff the band leader of Toto, now look at 0:56: starting the groove and checking on the others if they catch on 🤓. It was already there. I'll stop analysing now and enjoy😉
ericgelders, I like your analysis. I’m not the one who noticed the jacket first. Someone else did, and another person added a hilarious quote (“I know that baggie is here somewhere,” iirc). This is one of my favorite videos ever. It shows the seventies as they really were, and there’s something magical about what those guys did that night. Note how Boz looks to a 19 year old Steve P. right before Steve becomes one with his dual mini moogs. Jeff definitely set the foundation at your time stamp. (I thought the jacket was hiding Jeff’s hand in his pants. 😂 It could have been in the jacket pocket.) I’ve watched a few of Luke’s interviews. You’re right. He looked up to Jeff since their school days.
Can’t actually believe anyone would be able to pull this off. The backing singers seem like they are hypnotised by the soulful energy being generated. So unbelievably cool.
I heard this song once while eating at an Applebee's years ago. I loved it, but never heard it again. I'd been looking for it all this time, and today it started playing in my classic rock playlist. I could not believe it! I've been listening to it nonstop all day long. Now I can die a happy man :).
I bought Silk Degrees in 1976 and have listened to it ever since. My daughter who is 17 loves it and my grandson of 9 loves it. For me one of the finest albums ever put onto vinyl.
Similar experience here, Bob. When I had trouble getting my infant kids to sleep at night I danced them to the Silk Degrees songs. They relaxed immediately and would go to sleep. When they toddled they danced/swayed to it. One of the best R&B bands to ever come together. That album will remain timeless.
Yes, the singers were awesome. I watch the video regularly and am always stunned by their performance. I guess it lasts forever once you've done it like this.
I love this song, and this video, and revisit it every few months, but this year has been one of the best for new music. Wolf Van Halen created an entire album by himself, with no skip songs. Jerry Cantrell released a good solo album. Halestorm is dropping a new album. The acoustic version of “Back From The Dead” is amazing. You might have to look for good music, since radio isn’t giving us much, but it’s out there.
I’ve always Loved classic rock the blues and anything that came along with it that was different. I was 10 in 77 And I remember my mom‘s youngest brother my uncle Ralph showed me how to listen to all this he told me to always pay attention carefully and listen and I was already into other bands like KISS, Fleetwood, Van Morrison.. and Molly Hatchet Van Halen but this was totally different when he introduced me to this and I’ve been in love with Boz Scaggs music ever sent brings back a lot of good memories of wanting more out of Music. So much talent
Those Porcaro boys could lay it down. I remember seeing Toto on stage during their zenith, probably around the Hydra release, original line-up with a guest guitarist, and Steve would bring his entire array of old school analog synths with him. He looked like a laboratory scientist in a Marvel movie and sounded amazing.
WOW! Look at Jeff killing it with that killer groove!!!! There will never be another like him. That we know for sure. Many will try, but none will succeed.
Along with my kids favorite music, that I could hear down the block, I subject them to my 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music. My son won’t admit it but I know, for a fact, that he knows all the words to ‘Runaround Sue’ and how many times Steven Tyler says ‘Let it go’ for the song ‘What it takes’.
I heard a version of this song without Jeff and it's not the same song. Those ghost notes are tough to pull of but Jeff was one of the few who could pull them off. Richard Bailey, (Played on Jeff Beck's 'Blow by Blow') nails it on Freeway Jam.
Wow, so cool to see this bit of behind the scenes and particularly Jeff P doing his Lido Shuffle shuffle. Always was one of my favs. on my playlists to this day.
when ever I'm feeling a little down I come here to get my fix of natural uppers, the Porcaro brothers were on fire, whoa oh oh oh oh, he's for the money, he's for the show
I caught his show in about 1976, Minneapolis. Like this clip, the whole thing was amazing. For quite some time, Silk Degrees was the soundtrack for my friends and I, before or after the bar. Those were the days you know, you could find live music all over the place. Boz was so good, he just celebrated 75 the other day, I think, Hard to believe it's almost 50 years ago! Of course he's still kicking it.
79 actually. I just saw him 2 days ago, he is still amazing. I'm jealous this music was contemporary for so many of you. My consolation blessing is I have access to all of his music everywhere I go.

I wasn't born until 1982 and I remember hearing this as a kid on one of my mum's golden oldies stations. You don't have to have 'been there' to know this is gold. REALLY good music is timeless and evokes emotion no matter the era you're listening in or age you are.
Caught Boz a few months ago in Tallahassee, FL. Awesome show...not missing a beat. Rock on Boz!!!
Great song and wow, how talented are the Porcaro brothers!
The piano intro is a very nice touch. My favorite version of Lido Shuffle
Two iconic synth solos I grew up with by the great Steve Porcaro, this one on Lido and the big solo in Rosanna. Boz's voice is so perfect for this song!
Blinded by the light was iconic
Three young Porcaro brothers.. That's a treat.
Hartaty Sirait...OMG they look 👀 like babies!!
Where's Mike? I didn't see him. Jeff and Steve, yes, but I thought Hungate was still around.
Jeff is missed
@@ApartmentKing66 Time 0.40 Baby Mike is near Jeff with Bass in his arms,,,both R.iP. saw Mike in 1999 in Italy...Best Bassist ever seen..
InvestorGuy66,
This was in 1976. Toto didn’t exist, yet. Jeff, Mike, and Steve P., along with Les Dudek and Jai Winding were in Boz’s touring lineup for the Silk Degrees album tour.
Just people playing music and having a great time, and a hit record ❤
This live version is great!
And Silk Degrees is probably one of my favourite albums of all time!
Even though it was a big hit at the time I think it might be the most underrated pop/rock album ever
Not that anybody would give a shit, but I grew up and still live on the island where the Silk Degrees album cover was photographed. In fact, we still have that exact same green bench sitting in the same spot and I walk my dogs past it almost every day.
Where is it?
@@andyheater In Avalon on Catalina Island. On the northeast side of the big iconic Casino Ballroom sitting in front of that same seawall that overlooks the dive park. longitude is -118.435601 and its latitude is 33.786594
@@seanmcaleavy2369 Hey friend, for some reason (my fault, no doubt) those coordinates inputted via Google Earth did not work out for me, but I was able to find out that by searching there for "Casino Point," I found those references that you indicated, but, alas, I couldn't find the bench! I did see along that north-east wall a decrepit park bench just left of the Dive Park painted sign, and a park table to its right. Help?... earth.app.goo.gl/gneGyQ
times were so much better back then...great music....eveything felt better....horrible today...
Walked in cold. Dropped the groove and vocals. Just amazing....but them backup singers!
YES!!! Those Backup Singers sang in the GROOVE NIGHTLY!!! On stage Inside left to Right: Becky Lopez, (Middle) Vanetta Fields, (On end) Phyllis St. James(playing Tambourine!)
@@rebeccalopez3115 Wow, thank you, Rebecca Lopez! You ladies look and sang magnificently!
This smh takes me back to my 70s preschool hood. Silk Degrees is a great album!
Watched Boz Scaggs in concert in 2021. What a great concert! I’m 60, but felt like a whipper-snapper in the audience! ❤
Touches the Heart and soul of the times. The BoZ, THE MAN
All she wrote.
Bos Skaggs, THE MAN.
"One for the road" I, Been there more than ONCE.
I CAN RELATE.
The girls are Wonderful.
What a wonderful life it was and IS. 😄
We LOVED Boz Skaggs in the 1970s. We were hard party gals and Boz was on audio tape on every skiing and hiking adventure!
It's good to see young and fresh Jeff Porcaro.... I miss him so much... What a great drummer and person....
One Almighty Standout Anthem From An Era Of Amazing Music.
The Unmistakable Vocals Of Mr Boz Scaggs Combined With Brilliant Musicality.
Cheers 🍻 👏 ✌️ 🥂 For This Majestic Timeless Memory.
❤❤❤..
Great playing and great songwriting never goes out of style. Wow. What a band.
Imagine having Toto as your backing band.
Kerri Braddock Imagine having Boz Scaggs as your front man
Dam!
Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles. :-)
This was in the long hot summer of 1977 in Scotland when this song was out.I have always wondered in this song what Lido was up to.'One more for the road' this joint aint nothing to it etc.He forgot to sing the 1st couple of words here.Brilliant drumming also+keyboards. We dont get hot summers in Scotland thats why ill not forget where i was when this was out. What a track!!!
Keep m comin👍🏾
I feel happy every time I turn this on, listen to the music, and watch Jeff Porcaro grooving on this one. Great!
Look how relaxed ppl where back then , no egos or ppl taking selfies. Ppl just making musical gold. Htf did we get so messed up by 2022. Love boz scaggs and this era in music....
When the Porcaros are your band you can also relax ha
That might be Boz. I think even the Porcaros were not relaxed around Fagan and Becker 😂
I'm sure there were egos back then. Also, it's a generation gap as well...and this is coming from a Gen Xer.
Think about how many people quit bands back then. Definitely a ton of egos.
@@Cleangasoline99 yea like David Lee Roth
What a band! What a song! Boz is The Man.
Love the archival vintage footage and audio, we've all heard the studio mix it's nice to have things like this, time capsules. I love old 8mm-16mm film and old early video footage as an 80s baby.
Arguably THE highlight of this video: Jeff kicking of THAT groove and Boz seemingly carelessly catching on to it: 0:56 - 1:15 - sub-zero cool😎
My favorite part too.
Musically, I agree, but Les catching Jeff digging in his pants for the bag of weed, starting at 0:41 (as Les meets all three brothers) is comic gold.
I'll stop analysing now and enjoy😉
ericgelders,
I like your analysis.
😂 It could have been in the jacket pocket.)
I’ve watched a few of Luke’s interviews. You’re right. He looked up to Jeff since their school days.
It’s one of the greatest ever things we’ll ever see . ❤
Great to see the pacaro brothers on this track👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Les Dudek tearing it on the lead guitar...
Let's give it up for the background singers those ladies were jamming!!!
Yes ma'am!
Yes, the singers were awesome. I watch the video regularly and am always stunned by their performance. I guess it lasts forever once you've done it like this.
My Aunt is one of them! Becky Lopez :)
@@angelinalange4329 That is beautiful Angelina. Here's to your Aunt Becky! Thank you.
Yes sir !!!!
One of my favourite songs of all time. Great video
Spectacular talent. Don't you wish every band in 2021 was this talented!!
Silk Degrees is really the birth of Toto. How wonderful to see the Porcaro bros so young.
I always thought this was such well written , and arranged song. His voice is perfect for this tune
Thank you Boz for giving us 50 years of listening pleasure!
Boz is the man!!What a stud-Boz is the King of Disco and hipness!!
No disco here...that's a straight up Purdie shuffle laid down by the late greay Jeff Porcaro!
@@jb8349,
It’s not a Purdie. “Rosanna” is. Jeff said he was influenced by Jim Gordon’s groove on Steely Dan’s “Charlie Freak” here.
The young Porcaro brothers is cool to see. Boz forgot what part he was in for a second! I love this song. Good memories.
1:15 Boz playing a Yamaha SG 2000 and look how you Les Dudek looks
Those Porcaro boys could lay it down. I remember seeing Toto on stage during their zenith, probably around the Hydra release, original line-up with a guest guitarist, and Steve would bring his entire array of old school analog synths with him. He looked like a laboratory scientist in a Marvel movie and sounded amazing.
Silk Degrees....killer album! Still sounds fresh after all these years.
Boz is the MAN! Took my dad to see him in York, PA and he rocked. My dad brings it up all the time. Great memory.
Jeff even counted it off with groove.
The bass is really driving the song.
WOW! Look at Jeff killing it with that killer groove!!!! There will never be another like him. That we know for sure. Many will try, but none will succeed.
Yep!
Exactly 30 years ago, groove faded away…miss ya Jeff!
Mike Porcaro keeping up with the playful momentum set by Bozz Scaggs and Jeff Porcaroe😂
For me Silk Degrees was one of the finest albums ever. Not a bad tune on it!!’
Love that album
0:40 the Porcaro brothers 💕 RIP Jeff and Mikey.
@4:50 the genius Jeff Porcaro at his best!!!
You know that bro!...............hands down King of the shuffle:)
How did Jeff get his glasses on at the end??
I heard a version of this song without Jeff and it's not the same song. Those ghost notes are tough to pull of but Jeff was one of the few who could pull them off. Richard Bailey, (Played on Jeff Beck's 'Blow by Blow') nails it on Freeway Jam.

I love the piano tuning beginning then playing the riff, creates a very nostalgic image in my mind, to me a classic American sound. Great song.

Wow, so cool to see this bit of behind the scenes and particularly Jeff P doing his Lido Shuffle shuffle. Always was one of my favs. on my playlists to this day.
When I bought the 1st Toto lp I said hey that's Boz's band boys !!!
He had a lot of people up on that stage with him.
when ever I'm feeling a little down I come here to get my fix of natural uppers, the Porcaro brothers were on fire, whoa oh oh oh oh, he's for the money, he's for the show
Silk Degrees is one of the finest albums the world has ever heard.
Carnegie Music Hall, Pittsburgh, by chance?
You can still find live music “all over the place”, just got back from Nashville, TN. Whew! Was dancing 💃 down the sidewalks to live tunes blasting out of clubs~restaurants 🎶
@@KittyGrizGriz,
It’s the same in coastal SoCal, and most college towns. There are dozens of little clubs here, and live music can be found every night.
Steve Porcaro and TWO Minimoogs! What a great track.
Ahhh, the 70's. What glory!! Sex, Drugs, and R&R. I'll never forget snorting coke out of the crack of my girlfriend's ass while listening the Lido Shuffle. Just one glorious moment in a decade filled with them. It'll be time to go soon, but I can die happy recollecting on the 70's.
