In the late 70's and early 80's a band called Chicago Blues Power was the house band for the Saloon in San Francisco. The Saloon is the oldest continuously open bar in California and it is just a little hole in the wall. Boz under the alias Texas Slim would come and play with them. It was always a secret and my husband and I were always told about it because my husband was friends with the band. It was so awesome. Also my husband had met Boz and he always remembered my husbands name.
The great and unique thing about Boz's voice is that he sings from the back of his throat. It's a pleasant, acoustic sound that makes for a rich tone like no other. It's perfect for the Blues. He is almost in tears, it seems. I love it.

This song, when it was first recorded with Duane Allman and the crew at Muscle Shoals, is the definition of perfection ....what a performance by all involved way back in 1969
Having been a working musician for many years, I stand in absolute awe of the tightness of this performance. Picked up on this song many years ago on one of the Duane Anthologies. Have loved it ever since and this version has to stand as one of the great live renditions of all times. My hat is off to all these players and Boz's vocal!!!
Saw Boz and his band right after BB King died. They did a tribute him and holy smokes!!! They most incredible blues jam I've ever seen live. Absolutely incredible. By the way - I was there for the opening act - Tower of Power. So what a one-two punch that show was!!
As much as I think that "We're All Alone" is the best ballad ever written by man, I love it when Boz sings the blues. No nonsense, no caterwauling, no drama - just a soulful voice squeezed dry of self-pity, presenting the facts. Despite the fact that Duane Allman is no longer among us, I like this version better than the studio version because Boz has grown into his voice.
I believe Boz scaggs is excellent low down harbor lights and the song loan me dime is Superior both vertions are good I think Duane Allmans guitar playing makes that rendition better but it has to be great song that's why both work
And , if I may add to your superb memoir, the fact that Boz lost his own son a number of years ago I believe adds to his feelings and understanding of what the blues really is all about .
63 here and going to the show at the Fox in Atlanta on the 31st of this month to see the "Out of the Blues" show. Cannot wait. It's been rescheduled twice, and I gambled both times and kept the tickets, so finally going to see it.
I was just thinking that and boom, you said it. My high school buddies would stand in front of the pay telephone trying to bum $1.25 for a six pack of Coors and this was our signature plea for a small miracle. Worked pretty well.
Ok ~ lets not forget that Boz can play the guitar, as well as sing the blues so well. Boz was a mainstay of mine in my high school years, and I am ecstatic to find this version. THanks Rod Ray!
Sublime is the word. I would love to know when and where this video was recorded. It's an absolute masterclass on how to play slow blues as it utilizes the full talent of every member of the band. Hearing how Boz' vocals have evolved over 50 years is incredible. I've watched and just listened to this video so much with such pure enjoyment countless times and hear it in my head when I'm not. If it were a vinyl album it would be grooved and worn down beyond repair.
Started with Boz Scaggs and Band on 8-track at 17. Worked my way up from there. Listened long enough to finally have my 25 year old daughter ask me to go see the man. No math needed. One of the best times and memories that I will take with me...
Such a rich performance. Pure talent all around...vocal tone, instrument phrasing, structure, synchronicity between the players...this is the magic that is music.
I wonder if Boz still hears Duane when he sings this.....who else can play this like he could? Young Duane you were ahead of your time and even now I don't think we quite get the beautiful talent that you were. Here we are in 2016 and I still play every song that Duane Allman played on just to hear perfection......and you live on in the beautiful perfection you left for all of us.
Duane Allman, the road will go on forever. He will never suffer the two deaths. He has suffered the first. The second, when you are forgotten. He is one for the ages.
Always liked Boz Skaggs....Saw him when he just went out on his own at San Diego Sate College around 1970. Warm up for Quick Silver and nobody wanted him to go.
it's called blues, and Boz plays it so well, he's underrated as a guitar player, and his lead guitarist plays with so much passion and feel it's crazy.
First time I heard this we were playing cards at a friend’s house. Another friend was working as a DJ at a college radio station, and played it for us. The card game stopped until it finished. Love this song!

I went to a boz Skaggs concert this evening in Clearwater Florida, and they did this song as their final song of the night. It was so awesome that it gave me chills. Great show!

Here is the original with Duane Allman backed up by the Swampers. Duane played on about 4 songs on the album taking two days off from touring with the Allman Brothers. Duane arranged this song on the fly, it is all Duane Allman. They had so many musicians in the studio they put Duane in a small one hole toilet where he sat on top of the toilet tank with his guitar and headphones. When Boz quit singing Duane takes over and the producer and Boz hear what he is laying down and the producer went scurrying down the hall frantically motioning for Duane to keep going. That my friends is how we have one of the jewels of blues and rock played by one of the greatest guitarists of all times (Hendrix and Duane split number one). Note this song is over 12 minutes, you can count on one hand the number of songs recorded that was over 3 minutes. Loan Me a Dime and Layla come to mind, both by Duane. The album did not sell well but this song started being played on FM stations and people realized it was Duane. Without Duane, this song would be about 3 minutes long. This version is trying to imitate Duane, but it is like listening to elevator music, sorry: ua-cam.com/video/WGGvlTXGERA/v-deo.html

What more could anybody want from music of any type? This has absolutely everything...
I saw Boz Scaggs in concert last night. This song was his encore. I almost cried. It was a truly religious experience.
the only religion for me.
You guys are Righteous and totally CORRECT. Peace and love ❣💞❤
Crying is good for the soul brother!
Me cry to
That's how I feel when I listen to him and Duane get down. Brings tears to my eyes every dang time.
The best blues song and tune of all time, orchestrated and played by great musicians, a milestone in the production of true art.
Written and recorded by Fenton Robonson, ripped off by Boz.
My hat is off to all these players and Boz's vocal!!!
nbforrest9 ...Indeed!
Drew ZIngg on guitar!
Saw Boz and his band right after BB King died. They did a tribute him and holy smokes!!! They most incredible blues jam I've ever seen live. Absolutely incredible. By the way - I was there for the opening act - Tower of Power. So what a one-two punch that show was!!
@@rogerwhitacre8247 You Rule Roger! Amen brother!
I'm about to lose my...worried mind🤔
As much as I think that "We're All Alone" is the best ballad ever written by man, I love it when Boz sings the blues. No nonsense, no caterwauling, no drama - just a soulful voice squeezed dry of self-pity, presenting the facts. Despite the fact that Duane Allman is no longer among us, I like this version better than the studio version because Boz has grown into his voice.
Yep!! Just like Tony Benett, got better as he got older!!
I believe Boz scaggs is excellent low down harbor lights and the song loan me dime is Superior both vertions are good I think Duane Allmans guitar playing makes that rendition better but it has to be great song that's why both work
It's not with Duane Allman and the Swampers from Muscle Shoals but this is an excellent live version by Boz Scaggs and his great band!
And , if I may add to your superb memoir, the fact that Boz lost his own son a number of years ago I believe adds to his feelings and understanding of what the blues really is all about .
I'm 67 and this is as good as any I have heard. Great cut, I just listened to it 4 times
May be the most perfect of all blues songs.
Right on bros! Almost 65 and dying! For real. No pity.
only four? :)
@@BarneyDavey I have this track from the anthology and have listened to it in the thousands since I heard it years ago.
63 here and going to the show at the Fox in Atlanta on the 31st of this month to see the "Out of the Blues" show. Cannot wait. It's been rescheduled twice, and I gambled both times and kept the tickets, so finally going to see it.
Brilliant, mesmirising, fabulous musicians - ok i cant help myself: still miss the ultimate edge of the Duane Allman recording...
the way he does the blues, my my, hits the very soul - in the most rewarding way. resonant balance is here in this epic. I know. I am, I was.
his longevity is rarely seen...his diversity is unmatched...boz scaggs is an American treasure
ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!!!!!
All of you guys are AWESOMELY CORRECT
I totally agree
Yes.
Oh, I so agree!!!
The weird thing is that most people nowadays wouldn't realize what the dime was for ☎️
aint that the truth..no more pay phones.
Years ago when i was cigarette smoker i kept a dime in my zippo lighter in case i had an emergency need of one
I remember when the dime became a quarter.
That's what I was going to say.
Real talent. All you youngsters take note. Never gets old.
Love you Boz
Had the privilege of seeing Boz and his incredible band play this live in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Man- Oh- Man. INCREDIBLE.
This is from the Music Palace in San Francisco. The entire show is killer/available on DVD.
@@donholl Thanks! I will look for it.

Yes donholl great video! I loved Miss Sun, and well hell all of it.
My god, I can't believe I made it 57 years without hearing this performance. This is extraordinary.
The whole DVD is excellent! so many of his classic songs.
Cheers
Saw this guy in Steve Miller Blues Band quite a while ago..Like 50 yrs or so..Cheetah Club
Started with Boz Scaggs and Band on 8-track at 17. Worked my way up from there. Listened long enough to finally have my 25 year old daughter ask me to go see the man. No math needed. One of the best times and memories that I will take with me...
Beautiful. Boz is still a stand-out among all others. Timeless music.
"The Devil's Own" brought me here. Thank you! Stay safe, January 2021, London UK.
Likewise mate. 👍
Stay free. Canada 2022
People doing music need to learn how to stay with it like they do here..Music is about delivering a sincere message..and working it out!
True, true.
Boz fan since 1975
I listen to his music 🎵 every morning. Sets my day right to carry on 😊
Una de mis canciones preferidas. Muchas gracias por compartir. Saludos desde. México.

He was badazz live playing lone me a dime awesome look it up on utube
Such a rich performance. Pure talent all around...vocal tone, instrument phrasing, structure, synchronicity between the players...this is the magic that is music.
I always think of Duane Allman every time I hear Boz do this tune -- but, this performance is "almost" as good as it gets without him.
A live masterwork. No drum machines here. This is groovin'. Oh, the humanity.
Somebody knows how to put a band together.
My God he is incredible! And yes it does give me chills. One of the greatest performers ever underrated!
I'm sure Boz does....I know I do!
Duane Allman, the road will go on forever. He will never suffer the two deaths. He has suffered the first. The second, when you are forgotten. He is one for the ages.
Wow!
true that
So true!
I found this by accident. It's beyond beautiful. WOW.
You should buy the DVD it is great!
Several of the songs from that DVD are here on YT. It has so many classic songs oh his
Accidents may happen :)
By accident...please explain

Always liked Boz Skaggs....Saw him when he just went out on his own at San Diego Sate College around 1970. Warm up for Quick Silver and nobody wanted him to go.
Tremendo ...grande BOZ ..🎸🔥DESDE ARGENTINA 🇦🇷👏
Duane Allman played slide on the original version. He was a big influence in only 24yrs on this planet. Boz is still Silk after all these years..
it's called blues, and Boz plays it so well, he's underrated as a guitar player, and his lead guitarist plays with so much passion and feel it's crazy.
First time I heard this we were playing cards at a friend’s house. Another friend was working as a DJ at a college radio station, and played it for us. The card game stopped until it finished. Love this song!
Now, that was absolutely amazing! Can't love it enough.
Every musician rocks in this. How can you sit still? Amazing 😎
God gave use the Blues to get thru the hard times...🎶💔⚓️
I was like "Really, that was 15 minutes already?" I could have listened to them go another 15. Always loved this song. I play it as loud as I can whenever I get a chance
Take notes, children. This is how you play the blues. I mean the real low down dirty blues.
they’re checking their phones right now🤔
There’s too much hip hop and electronic stuff for kids to appreciate this. We’ll probably pray for them right? ☺️
Absolutely
Don't forget Steve Ray Vaughn
Them low down dirty stink’n blues
I have been a fan since this first came out in the 60’s this whole album is one of my favorites and this is an absolute amazing performance. Bravo Boz Scaggs
I have been a been a fan since I first heard this song. I was 15 when I first heard it I'm 65 now & it still touches my Soul.
@@jaimemedina909 He had Duabe Allman on guitar earlier
Me too
Well hello friend, nothing like an earthy jazz voice with a bit of blues and soul, the boz is my absolute favorite.
Boz Scaggs,pure perfection.
I went to a boz Skaggs concert this evening in Clearwater Florida, and they did this song as their final song of the night. It was so awesome that it gave me chills. Great show!
Nice
This performance was really good. Really Good! However I still miss Duane, best guitarist right behind Jimi. Please, don’t let the blues fade away, Folks.

I believe that is Drew Zingg playing guitar behind Boz. He's a great player and the entire band is hot.
I was just wondering who the guitarist is. Damn fine artist at his craft....amazing. Thanks
Ever here it with Duane Almond
@@timmynormand8082 I have heard it with Duane Allman.

Professionals playing for fun. Love this. Will have it played as a funeral march to take to my grave....
Screw that...have it played today, tomorrow and beyond. After you kick the bucket, too late
Did not realize that Boz was such a talented guitarist
The best 15 minutes I've spent on UA-cam.
This version is trying to imitate Duane, but it is like listening to elevator music, sorry:

Drew Zingg is no Duane Allman but he is still a very good guitarist I really like this version.
If you like the blues this song is a must for your playlist! I’ve actually seen him play this at the Orpheum Theater in S.F.
I have lived in the States then down to Mexico for a year now back to the States. I return to this for the peace I need and that it brings, thanks again
