  • My K&N panel filter literally sucks, as in it seems to actually cause more vacuum in the inlet manifold than the standard filter. Ram air intake/cold air feed + K&N panel filter installed and tested on the Shitroen

    I don’t have a clue about cars when it comes to tuning and engines etc and i found this funny yet knowledgeable, you have gained a new sub.. fair play mate 😂😂😂
    Edit: I recently bought my first car, it’s a Volvo C30 R and i have had nothing but problems obviously by previous owners who miss treated it.
    Im guessing this is how I found your channel as im constantly on UA-cam atm trying to diagnose issues i have.

    Another great and funny video 😂 Keep it up, especially the citybugs. I used think the performance on mine was shite but lately I've realised the trick is to excessively keep the gears low and the revs high. It's so much happier taking hills doing 80mph in 5th than 70mph ... or dropping to 4th at 70mph to accelerate up the hills. Uses more fuel but still only a 1litre engine so who cares 😂

      Cheers mate, and yea they’re very long geared for the size of the engine tbh so sometimes need to drop a cog and burn more petroleum to get the shitters into the power curve.

    Clean the filter with petrol .Gets it much cleaner and takes a couple of minutes to dry.Also I only oil the top side that faces up when in the air box cos in my head that is the side doing the filtering and it saves getting oil in the throttle body.Really enjoy your channel Thanks

    Had a K&N panel filter on a 1.4tdci fiesta the turbo whistle was more noticeable but the cleaning and oiling took a good 24 hours to do it right, if you over oil them it can cause issues to sensors along the way, stick with paper ones 👍

      @@StupidBlokeStupidVideos clever marketing and nothing anymore special than a Mann or Crossland, I had to clean the mass airflow sensor on the Fiesta as it started to get a film on it after 20,000 miles from the oil and I did it as per the destructions and it started to bring the eml on

      @@joebloggs3629 I had K&N 57i induction kit on my old Volvo V70 T5. I was about 20 so of course I went for the open cone type. Kept killing MAF sensors from heat soak. Would ruin them on hot day when stuck in traffic. Pulled one out once after it had gone faulty stuck in traffic and all the rubber sealant around the edges of it had gone soft and started to melt

      Try the pipercross/ramair ones, don't require cleaning and don't use oil, made of a different material and cost similar

    Excuse my ignorance but what’s the porpoise of the oil on the filter? Surely that would restrict airflow.

      Cheers mate. They are designed to be oiled as that’s the main filtration. With no oil in them you can hold them upto the light and actually see through them. I admit that they are well made, but everything else about them I’m really not a fan of tbh.

    How do you handle driving such a powerful car on a daily basis in traffic? Doesn't drive you mad knowing your car can do 300mph and if everyone would just get out of your way you could be home in seconds. You oiled the K&N just fine. It is supposed to be uniformly pink. Not gonna give you any gains on your car, you really need a turbo engine and a remap and it will give an improvement. They are never going to give you a really noticeable increase in power. But it should give 1 or 2 more bhp on a dyno.

      Yes, it’s very frustrating that inferior vehicles don’t just move out the way. Tbh I wasn’t expecting any noticeable performance gains from the filter itself, but what I was surprised about is the map readings showing it to be worse than the normal air filter. I’m thinking that a smoother inlet may help me to get to 301mph though.

    I had one of these on my Polo and I could not figure out why the shagger wouldn't tick over when it rained. Cleaned the scuttle drains, swapped dizzy cap, changed crankcase breather pipes. I eventually put a regular paper filter back in and it fixed the issue immediately. What I heard was "you need to wash and oil these things" but what I thought was "I might do that at some point". What I didn't know is you need to oil these things regularly or you might as well not have an air filter at all. They do give you a little extra intake noise, and I suppose they're fine if properly maintained but... I'm lazy and I'd rather not risk my engine running lean and breathing dirt as the oil evaporates.

    I installed a motorcycle air filter at the end you chopped off and threw away that internal air filter.
    Worked fine.

      I usually clean them from both sides. The detergent washes the dirt out, I find that blowing it back through from the clean side only can slow the air down too much to get it all out.

      This is the one I bought, only the finest quality no expense spared. The side of the pipe is about 65mm or 2.5” if I remember right

    Just a point to remember you have the standard map on the ECU and you need the exhaust flow to be better also for all to work happily together, be good to see upgrade manifold with exhaust system with the remap and a proper smooth flow cold air feed. Just for shots and giggles.

      Yea course. The main idea of this vid was to test how restrictive the filter is comparably and to see if the air duct helps. I’ve got a decat and Yaris injectors, but yes still on standard map.. for now.

    had best results from cotton filters: Cosworth are good but haver a limited range. K+N is just a mucky noisebox

      I’m not a fan of K&N. They’re made to a good sturdy quality, but I don’t think the filter particularly well and they also cover everything with oil.

    All of these carefully crafted modifications would likely genuinely add an extra 50 - 70hp on a car that might benefit it!….. just not on a 1.0L C1. 🤔 As per usual though, 12 out of 10 for effort. 😎👍🏻

    Put more Oil on the Filter - and you get around ~ 100 Horses from the 1.0L 3cyl. Monster. More Oil = More Power. 🤥😉

    There's a vid ua-cam.com/video/Wmg0bzuO1Mc/v-deo.html where a guy puts nitrous oxide from a inhaler thing into a 60cc engine on a mountain bike, and it works as a boost, he doesn't add fuel and people comment that he's leaning it out. Not sure of the legality but it would be interesting to do the same to a car but add a measured amount of fuel or butane gas etc with the nitrous. Just an idea, not sure if you're that keen on destroying your engine .🤣👍😎❤️

      It’s called a dry shot and you can’t add too much as it will lean it out as you’re adding more oxygen with the same amount of fuel. It’s kind of like adding a turbo and not adding a or more fuel, but instead of adding more air you’re adding the same volume but with a higher concentration of oxygen. Easily cause detonation and blow the shitter up with too much. A proper set up adds fuel with it

      Yes but airbox is restritc you must open with holes and engine can take more air in same time and you take fast rpm in america is full open no airbox on yours airbox air go in engine thru 4 cm hole gate it is small air volumen...

      @@strma100 The idea is to get airflow from the front of the car to push the air through but that won’t work unless it’s sealed. Tbh I think the throttle body is probably the most restrictive part though

      I do on my car one things more pcv valve leave on place but breather line wich go after air filter i put down to street and put cup on the hole where is conectet now oil vapor and other shit dont come in engine and i have extra power on my engine because now suck clean air more oxigen more gasoline more power for ekologic i dont care because is small engine is not airplane or ship on registration i put everything back and after tehnical inspection i put back like before pcv valve only regulation vacum in intake and crankcase oil vapor and other shit after 2500 rpm go thru breather line this is better then oil cach can

    K&N are suitable for very high performance track race cars whose engines are rebuilt after each race. Outting these filters into a standard car will only accelerate wear on the intake valves and piston rings resulting in excessive oil consumption and evebtual loss in engine power unless yiu want to rebuild your engine regularly avoud these fikters like the plague, also although the airflow is minutely improved its not much more than a good quality OEM filter with no more than 15k miles, tge biggest loss is filtration performance which does not meet OEM specifications, period which is why you wont find these fikters in high performance cars sold by Ferrari, McClaren, Lambourghini, Porsche etc

      Whilst I agree with pretty much all of what you say, they are somehow authorised to be fitted to new vehicles without voiding the warranty. I agree that they don’t filter as well as standard type filters, even when oiled correctly. The oil itself causes other issues by getting onto MAF sensors etc (which this car doesn’t have). If you watched the video until the results part, I actually found the K&N to be MORE restrictive than the “not new” stock filter that came out! This could be due to applying a little too much oil, but after a very short period of time of driving any excess oil is supposed to come off by itself,.. (which I did before carrying out the experiment) covering the intake and throttle body with oil 🙄
      K&N filters are definitely manufactured to a high standard, but the design in my opinion isn’t suited to modern cars and there are much better functioning filters available. My boss has an aircraft that I work on sometimes, servicing/setting carbs up, and the regulation air filters for that are K&N.
