Erin, you look absolutely gorgeous!!! A wonderful Part 2 on the basics. Thank you so much for helping us makes our lives more beautiful! xoxox, Melissa
Thank you x30 for this great list! In Arizona I can skip the trench, and the rain boots and replace them with a sun hat and a good pair of sneakers. When in Rome...
I am obsessed with your channel and am learning so much. I used to watch what not to wear and was disappointed when it came to an end. This vlog is more than filling in the gap. I actually made a list of the basics and am focusing this year's clothing budget on that list. Yesterday I navigated a typically overwhelming department store with ease because I knew what I was looking for. It was freeing. Now to edit my current very large clothing collection. That's hard so far but I let go of a few pieces each day. It's so fun to have a refresh on my fashion outlook. Thanks so much for giving us this great content...for free!
Erin i love your videos and i love this minimalistic makeup look on you and that lipstick shade matches you perfectly. You are glowing and very youthful looking
When you said winter boots I was mmm what she going show. I’m from Canada 🇨🇦-40 with wind shield of -60. . You nailed it . Sorel boots are a must have for a Canadian. As for winter coat “. Canada goose “ if you can afford one. They are the Cadillac of winter jackets for a Canadian .
Thank you for all your videos. I decided it was time for an updated look. I watched more than a few of your videos and then did a closet and accessory/jewelry clean out. I made a list of essentials that I didn't already have and started shopping today. What a great way to get started.
Having watched this series I am pleased I have all items except for a white shirt as I literally have not had a need or want for one for YEARS.. But have everything else yay - fab videos xx
Another great player to purchase boots is a store called Marks Work Wearhouse, they have wonderful all weather boots. They are moderately priced and the fit of their footwear is comfortable. It's a Canadian company. Loved your video!
+Christine Tilley Thiel Thanks so much.. I've never heard of the company, but I will definitely check it out. I saw Aquatalia at Saks the other day and they are gorge, but pretty expensive!! Erin xo
Second time watching parts 1 & 2. I can't wait to share this information with some 40+ family members who have been coming to me for wardrobe advise. I will definitely point them to your blog! It is so true that many women lack these pieces. I'm inspired to get some basic tees now.
Hey Erin! I've been shopping for the perfect rain boot for 5 years now. My search ended last week. I have narrow feet and I'm petite so every single pair I found were too wide on my foot and too tall on my leg. Recently I heard someone say that if you're are a woman's size 7, that Hunter boots in girls size 5 would fit. Sooo, I took the chance and ordered them. Well, they fit. Perfectly. Not too high and they fit my freakishly narrow foot perfectly with room for socks!!! I just thought I'd share my experience in case you or any of your followers have suffered from this same issue. OH, and the girls Hunter boots are HALF the price!!!!!!! Sorry, but that deserved all of those exclamation points. xo, Tracy
Thank you so much Erin! I always need this reminder. I am a bit overwhelmed but I am going to make a list and work through it! Your hair looks so cute like this! Blessings~ Wendy
+Wendy Bee I always feel better if I make educated shopping choices with a list in hand versus buying things I don't need and likely won't wear. It's empowering... so don't feel overwhelmed. Just shop for a few pieces at a time. Good luck! Erin xo
Great part two, I love the Ludlow Suede Wedge Ankle Boots from Saks you showed on your blog, unfortunately they're out of my size! I think I saw a similar pair at Neiman's or maybe Von Maur, I'll keep looking. I've been wearing a few fun gold pieces but I really am faithful to my platinum, I just prefer the feel. You look beautiful today, your makeup is flawless!
yes ive seen it. but i would like to see more pairings with the flared jeans. like what tops would look great with it for more inspiration. Your previous video is talking more about what type of flared jeans to buy. But its ok if your not able to.
Will you make a list of supplemental pieces to add for the fall/winter? Love this list, I just wrote them all down to put in my purse so when I'm out I can pick up a piece or two.
Love all the ideas but I wear gold, silver or rose gold based on the season and outfit. So you could do the same basics in silver too. Mixing metals is a way to look minders and fresh without taking too much risk. So if you buy silver and gold mix them 😊
Erin, this is seriously so helpful - I realized the other day that I don't have black pants, yet I have dozens of cashmere sweaters, aaah! Needed this! xo
Thank you so much for breaking things down so well. You are awesome! I jotted down your list and already have a good 80% of the items mentioned. I will be shopping this weekend for the remaining essentials. Erin, as a former resident of the NE you know how brutally cold winters can be. Please please give us advice on how to style outerwear without looking like the Michelin man. I struggle to like stylish but just don't know how to stay warm AND look good.
+Isabel Stuart Have you bought a belted puffer coat yet? I recommended some last year and this year during the Nordstrom sale. If I were still in the NE and didn't have one, that would be FIRST on my list! You also need great boots... snow boots of course, but also great looking, weatherproof boots (check Aquatalia). I'm recommended some of these too. I think on my basics video? Great video topic! I used to wear long underwear under my clothes when I was reporting outside in the winter. COLD. Ugh. Don't miss that... Erin xo
You are so beautifull and I love all your advice💖❤💖I have exactly that one problem, lots of things but it is hard to make a sexy/elegant/stylish outfit. Also, I often avoid buying nice things, because I have no idea how and if they would go with anything I already have. Thank you.
+Jennifer Asentista Got it! In the meantime, I did a flared jean blog and video, did you have a chance to look at those? ua-cam.com/video/JdsfaNw6JKU/v-deo.html and wp.me/p3opPJ-2MD - Thanks so much! Have a great weekend! Erin xo
I love this series. So helpful! I have trouble finding some nice rainboots without made of rubber. I'm allergic to rubber and wonder if they make neoprene ones? I live in North GA mountains so we do get sleet and snow. I have most of the basiic pieces you mentioned here and in the first one.
I stumbled across your channel and am spending way too much time watching your addictive videos. I just subscribed and am looking forward to more videos.
Thank you for including weatherproof footwear on this list. Most "wardrobe essential" lists like this don't include that type of footwear. Bad weather can be brutal on your nice shoes and give them a shorter shelf life. Plus, I personally think sloshing, teetering, and tipping around in black pumps, or ballet flats in snow, torrential rain, ice just looks silly and the woman looks cold. Feet are an extremity and we need to protect them in inclement weather, especially those of us over 40.
Hi Erin, Great video! I've learned with age, if you can find a good cami or t-shirt that works for you, buy multiples. I found longer looser, (if you go up a size can wear with leggings) but classic looking tshirts in Kohl's Junior Dep't, believe it or not! for $10 after the discounts. I know they wash well because I got one months ago and I couldn't believe the quality. So I went back and bought 4 more! I also found these cami's off QVC that stretch to longer to cover as needed and they smooth you out without being full out shapewear. I was wondering if you could do a video that includes trench coats and some good alternatives to the Classic Burberry. :) Thanks
Where do you put your clutch when you sit down out to dinner with friends? On your lap? I have never gone to using one for this reason. I give my lipstick and phone to my husband or take a small purse that has a gold chain for a strap.
+Goldykel Thank you so much!! I always feel a bit odd doing beauty stuff as this is not my area of expertise, but I'm happy to occasionally do a GRWM video and show you a current makeup routine I'm loving! Thank you for the sweet words! Erin xo
Hi Erin, I'm new here - love your channel! I'm Canadian but currently living in the Philippines - could you do a list of must have basics for living in a tropical climate? Most of the year temps are up to 95 here, so there is no need for the wool coat, boots, or long sleeves, but perhaps a go-to summer dress, cotton trousers, short sleeve button down shirt, & a bikini would make the list? Would love your thoughts. :D
Hi Erin Love you videos. I'm sure you have styled women in their early 50's and sometimes there are issues relating to changes in their body - the distribution of weight (middle age spread) and arms (flabby) and intolerance to heat. Dressing comfortably can be a real issue and I would love you to provide some suggestions or a video that tackles these issues. I like to look smart but don't want to look frumpy! Also as we age showing too much skin even around an ageing neck is not very attractive yet wearing a scarves is sometime too hot!! I would love some practical suggestions or a video that tackles some of these issues. Keep up the good work. Sue
+Sue B Hi Sue, I've styled a LOT of women in their 50's and I've heard everything from I don't want to show my arms, to I have to cover the lump on the back of my neck. There are definitely unique challenges for mature women. I think it's a wonderful video topic and I will definitely add it to my list. Thank you! Erin xo
+Bonnie Pasap Hi Bonnie... Oh goodness, I forgot to add that link to the description box. My apologies - ua-cam.com/video/mfLkVhUB3rE/v-deo.html Let me know if you have any questions... Erin xo
Hi Erin! Thank you so much for the "basics" videos! I found them incredibly helpful. You are absolutely right, we totally underestimate the importance of the basics. Btw, one of my biggest challenges is finding the perfect pair of basic tights to wear under long sweater-dresses and such. The ones I find are either too thin, too thick, too long, bunch up in the wrong places... I am 5'3" and approx 128 lbs (athletic build). Any suggestions? Thank you for all the fashion information that you share with us! You are the best!!
+pereisu I HEAR you! Try Lysse - rstyle.me/~6nI1K - Pricey, but if you find a great pair, you'll have them for years. This pair from the rack is half off, but has a pattern - rstyle.me/n/bbb9h458an - very cute, though! And, great price! Hope that helps... Erin xo
Where do you recommend shopping for these basics? I can't even find decent long and short sleeve t shirts. Lately the cuts are really full through the middle, too long, too sheer.
Love this!! You mentioned the white and black t shirts and also the long sleeves ones. Which ones do you recommend? Ones that aren't too expensive thank you:)))
+melissa pintone I'm sure Erin would have even more suggestions, but I can tell you that the Ann Taylor t-shirts are very high quality, as well as the Calson brand from Nordstrom. Hope that helps!
+Southern Sass PS She actually answered to another person's comment that she gets all her tees at old navy, target, or gap. Look for Marla Robinson's comment below.
+melissa pintone I'm sorry, I thought I mentioned these on the blog. I always love Target, Gap and Old Navy tees. They are VERY affordable and wash well. Plus, you can order tall, petite, plus. Hope that helps??
I have a question what if your going from city living to country and I don't work I have my own business so how do I incorporate a basic list because I would never wear a dress or skirt I am going back to school i am 55 and starting over and I am starting with very little any advice.
Hi Erin. These are great videos. Thank you. I want to ask you about the black dress. I wear it maybe one a year. I find it too dressy for work or too cold for a date night. Mine is sleeveless. How should I wear it not to look overdressed? Or not freezing at work or restaurant. Wearing it with a jacket seems to defeat the idea of a dress. Please help. THank you.
+Tatiana Hagerty I don't know exactly how dressy your little black dress is, but there are some things you can try such as wearing a chambray shirt over it, and pairing it with flat sandals. You could also try wearing it with a cardigan and belting it around the waist or under the bust. Hope that helps!
+Tatiana Hagerty Hi Tatiana... Did you have a chance to watch my video about layering under your sleeveless dresses in the fall / winter season? That's one great way to keep things more covered up and appropriate for work. - ua-cam.com/video/nUFaZaGxFC0/v-deo.html - Also, I would consider a beautiful leather or vegan moto jacket over your sleeveless jacket, with booties for a warmed up, modern look! I LOVE this line, Muubaa (runs small) - they are all 50% off here - rstyle.me/n/bba9sn58an - Hope that helps? Erin xo
Jilli... I am working on trying to link up with this vendor. They normally only sell wholesale. Met the guy at a jewelry show, but if I can get pieces in or figure out how to offer to you guys, it'll be worth effort and wait. Pieces are really nice!! Erin xo
+Busbee Style Keep me posted; I will wait to hear what you can come up with in terms of a link or product. This tasteful, dainty, classic, clean style is pulling me back to my style roots. Thanks~
Depends on your preference... When I was pregnant, I loved the long/lean tanks from Target, but afterwards, they proved to be too long. I think a great base length is hip bone. Hope that helps? Erin xo
Erin~ Do you by any chance know where that long sleeved black tee shirt was from? I have been looking for something similar to that but can't find any.
+HoneyB563 I did, but unfortunately the one on her blog shows a low V neck from Old Navy. I am specifically looking for one similar to the tee she showed in her video. I live in CO and need warmer clothes and rarely wear low cut shirts in the winter. I was hoping she had a link to the high neck scooped tee. :(
+Jennifer Ann Fox (Feathers in the Nest) yes, yes! I have two from target from the Mossimo line that I bought about 1-2 yrs ago and they are amazing. I know they were extremely popular and got great reviews. I don't understand why companies don't "remake" popular items. I haven't seen them in target since.
New subscriber. Really loving your videos. I have most of the items, but I do need to clean out my closet. I have a lot of stuff! Come over and help me. LOL
1. motor jacket
2. camis-black and white
3. black Tshirts, white Tshirts- Vneck
4. long sleeve tshirts- both B/W
5. sunglasses
6. rainboots
7. weatherproof shoes or snowboots
8. sexy shoes - heels or lace up flats is ok
9. jewelry- 3 pieces -gold bangle, earings, necklace
10. evening bag- black or metallic envelope clutch for special event
I watched this when you first published it and now rewatching to keep me moving in the right direction. This video is timeless.
Erin, you look absolutely gorgeous!!! A wonderful Part 2 on the basics. Thank you so much for helping us makes our lives more beautiful! xoxox, Melissa

I get so cold so I substituted a leather jacket for a velvet jacket that's on a heavier side. A great substitution
Erin i love your videos and i love this minimalistic makeup look on you and that lipstick shade matches you perfectly. You are glowing and very youthful looking
Thanks so much, Jennifer!! I really prefer less makeup so always happy to hear you guys like that look!! Hope you are having a great weekend!! Erin xo
Another great video - I have never worn silver....ever. So I am glad when you said gold is in! have a great weekend.
Gold girl! Love it! I like both, but definitely feel like gold has a luxe factor that silver doesn't have. 😘😘
Love the way u put things, makes it seem so easy. When I watch ur vídeos I always feel I can be stylish, simple and yet chic. Thank u Erin !
Hi Erin, love your videos you make everything so simple but elegant. I'm a big fan you always look great...❤️

+Stina Egeberg I completely agree w/ you except my item is the sexy shoe. I dress up but can't wear those heels or uncomfortable looking flats.

My Walmart has camis for $1.68!!! The daughter and I picked up a bunch in all different colors!
You look fantastic Erin!!! Loved your Part One video as well. Soooooo helpful and useful. I'm grateful!

Great job!! Isn't it so cathartic? Love a good purge! Thanks for sharing! Erin xo
Loved this series, thanks for all your help! You look especially pretty today!!
Aw, thanks! I appreciate your kind words. Erin xo

Wardrobe 2.0 ...love the idea!! Thanks!!! Erin xo
Thank you so much for doing these videos!! Now I FINALLY know what the "Basics" are....💫editing my closet next!...

Translating these tops for gingers, we can wear camel or cream where she says white and chocolate or olive where she says black.
Erin, I wonder if you have a blog for plus size women who need corporate work clothes.
Where do you recommend shopping for these basics? I can't even find decent long and short sleeve t shirts. Lately the cuts are really full through the middle, too long, too sheer.
Great video!
+Southern Sass You can never go wrong at AT or Nordstrom! Thanks for weighing in!! Erin xo
+Southern Sass Should have read this one first! Thanks so much!! Erin xo
Erin xo
+Southern Sass Great suggestions! Erin xo
Your necklace is beautiful, so feminine and classic. Could you provide me a link as to where to look for it? Thanks for your work efforts.
Thanks~
Thank you Miss! :)
What lengths should the Camis and tshirts be?
Depends on your preference... When I was pregnant, I loved the long/lean tanks from Target, but afterwards, they proved to be too long. I think a great base length is hip bone. Hope that helps? Erin xo
+Busbee Style mahalo Erin!
Erin~ Do you by any chance know where that long sleeved black tee shirt was from? I have been looking for something similar to that but can't find any.
+Marla Robinson I know, I find it's harder to find the long sleep T's
Go to busbeestyle.com she has everything she talked about on her blog! 😀
+HoneyB563
I did, but unfortunately the one on her blog shows a low V neck from Old Navy. I am specifically looking for one similar to the tee she showed in her video. I live in CO and need warmer clothes and rarely wear low cut shirts in the winter. I was hoping she had a link to the high neck scooped tee. :(
One place I haven't looked in a while but used to have them is Target.
+Jennifer Ann Fox (Feathers in the Nest)
yes, yes! I have two from target from the Mossimo line that I bought about 1-2 yrs ago and they are amazing. I know they were extremely popular and got great reviews. I don't understand why companies don't "remake" popular items. I haven't seen them in target since.
Hi, I am over 50. Will I be able to wear those same basics in my wardrobe?
Coukd you do a video with recomendación for a professional Health care a medicar doctor specificaly for in personal officce.

Haha... You tell me! Probably not. 😉 what's it like living in paradise???
I HATE gold
Because cheap gold looks reeeaally bad sometimes, but cheap silver I think looks fine
Silver is great!!
