I think variety can be someone's savior or downfall depending on their personal style. As someone who tends to stick to the same small range of silhouettes, colors, and textures without getting bored, any attempt to add variety for variety's sake tends to result in me wasting money.
I'm someone who variety has worked out for the best but I understand where you are coming from because there have been items that I have bought that I had to get rid of a year later.
Most people would think that your bags are authentic because most of the people dont notice the difference! My husband purchased the Saint Laurent for $5000 for my birthday and my friend purchased a dupe for around $60 and it looks identical? I honestly couldn't believe it! The only thing is that the silver chrome chain handle on her dupe bag has faded, but she can just purchase a thick chrome handle chain and put it on her bag! Its amazingly so surprising how some of these bags look identical to the real genuine designer bags! Cheers *gtdupe*
I'm in awe of the attention to detail that goes into every redcyl handbag. From the meticulously placed embellishments to the flawless stitching, it's pure perfectionredcyl
You make a lot of great points here. The one important point you mentioned but didn't flesh out is the cost per wear question. I now spend more money on items I wear regularly and less on those I only wear for special occasions. For example, the brown leather crossbody bag use regularly is down to pennies cost per wear whereas the fancy clutch I bought to use at weddings and other formal occasions is still over $25 cost per wear.
Very important point and it took me an embarrassingly long time to get there mentally. It's just not as much 'fun' to invest in high quality basic pieces. Wardrobe staples, you wear again and again and again. But for your daily comfort and also how perceive yourself and how others see you, it's so much more important than special occasion pieces. This goes for shoes, too. I can't believe, I used to spend more on a pair of heels, I would wear maybe three times a year than on work appropriate shoes or even sneakers, I would wear several times a week. How does that make sense??
I think I only counted eight questions. 1. Is it going to save me/ cost me money next year? 2. Is it the fantasy or the actual item that I like? 3. Does this freshen up my existent wardrobe? 4. Do I have the wardrobe foundations to make it work? 5. Does this make it easy to look good and feel good? 6. Is the fabric consistent with function? 7. Is it too precious / delicate to be worn? 8. Do I have too many clothes to maintain? I must be missing one.
Tailoring clothing is a great way to breathe new life to a once ill fitting outfit. I owned some pants that looked okay and I wore regularly for a year. Then one day while on vacation I took a pair of scissors to them, realizing that I should’ve cropped them long ago. Now they’re my favorite pants
I have a Benetton wool v neck cardigan that has deeper arm hole and shorter bodice in charcoal. I bought it 35 years ago. I still wear it. It has a couple of moth holes that I haven’t fixed yet.
One tip I have is that having a range of tshirt weights and necklines make it easier to get dressed because some tshirts I want to wear alone, and some are for layering where I may or may not want the neckline to be visible. Not really a question to ask yourself before buying, but it expands on your tip on whether the fabric fits the function. I have been hunting for ages for a thin packable raincoat because as you say, you want to be able to easily carry it in case of rain. So many good tips in this video as usual. I was about to ask about your lip color! Chanel is a bit out of my price range but you hit the nail on the head about "does it make it easy to look and feel good?" Anything that is fussy I just don't reach for.
I love what you said about putting your item on a notion board! I do the same thing with Whering and it is such a good way to know if I really like an item
What a good points made in a positive kind way 😊. Good quality denim, knits, coats, jackets and T-shirts are clothes which are worth the money. Van Cleef is not as good quality as Graff, which is superb, very feminine and more unique. The advice I would say is: The power of a good bra is amazing and there is a difference between lingerie and bras. Get measured annually if you can. Alter trousers and denim accordingly to fit. Straight leg denim suits every shape. Look at all your clothes and what words describe them? It could be colour, fabric, vibes. If the same words continue to appear then that’s your style. White trousers look fabulous on others but doesn’t suit my lifestyle. Black trousers are much better for me. Would you purchase that item if it was any price if money wasn’t an object? Or are you are purchasing it because it’s a good price? Colour analysis is important but needs personality and shape is as important.
Jewelry is a changing thing. I have thin rings and tiny chains I wore in my youth but no long fit me in retirement (I had already given them to nieces 20 years ago). Even well made jewelry of gold and silver wears out or breaks over time. I don’t wear pave diamond rings anymore because the stones are always missing. I don’t wear small stone prong set rings because the stone fall out more often than channel set rings. Pearls get scratched as ring stone, yellowed as necklace and bracelet, and the silk cord may break. I replace many lobster and spring ring closures with stainless steel toggle closure for easy on off (especially bracelets). I like longer necklaces but they get caught and break more often than 18” necklaces. I make jewelry and do simple repairs and cleaning of donated jewelry (we sell them to fund raise). I deal with pieces from cheap stuff to high end items. I treat them as fun accessories now. Also, I swim 5/6 days a week. I take off everything except a 24k gold bracelet every time. Ppl who race bike, lift weight, run, and do cross fit probably don’t wear jewelry while at it.
Ive basically been doing the board thing for the last year and its saved me so much closet space and money. I only buy seasonally, so I add Everything I want to cart and then go back every day for like 2-3 months and re evaluate until I'm happy with the price for the items.
What a great video Helen! Of all the videos I watch on UA-cam, yours are among those that bring the most value for the time spent watching. I appreciate all your hard work!!💃🏽
Excellent points made. The one that really stood out for me is - are you liking the item because it looks great on the model and might not look good on us or practical in our wardrobe. Thanks for the work you put into videos
Good, more in-depth questions to ask ourselves b4 buying. I now use the tip of posting an item I’m thinking of buying to a wishlist board and reviewing it for a while. It really works.
Very helpful video ! Thank you so much. I’m not into the petite styling series as I’m not the target audience, but declutterring and curating videos are my absolute favourite ♥️
You have great overall style, but I think the long straight pillar skirts just look amazing on you (more so than the short skirts) - perfect for your body type! Of course, just wear what makes you feel good, but the long skirts are def. made for you.
The fantasy issue resonates with me. I appreciate all kinds of things and you can find some really special pieces out there but I have too many items I've never worn and can't throw out.
I do something similar to your wishlist! I leave tabs open in safari with items I’m interested in and will constantly look at them and close out of ones that I lose interest in.
I know a rich businesswoman who said she spent most of her money on investments and most of her bags are fake.. but I think *gtdupe* when you show yourself such a level, no one will doubt it *gtdupe*
I'm a big believer in wearing our beautiful clothes in everyday settings, not just on special occasions. Also spending money on quality shoes is a must. Cheap shoes are a false economy. I would rather spend money on one pair of high quality leather loafers that will last me years instead of buying cheap shoes that look creased & scuffed after a few wears. This was a great video. Thank you 😊
Great video! In what love to hear what everyone sees as a good or reasonable ‘cost per wear’ ?? I’m always thinking about this when buying new clothes.
It really depends on the initial cost and being sure an item integrates well into lifestyle, our personal style, and with the rest of our wardrobe. I’ve been doing cost per wear for about 15 years, some things are down to cents per wear and other things are a dollar. I paid $115 for a new wool sweater in June 2023, I wore it almost daily thru our very cold winter weather in Canada, bringing the cost per use to about $1.50 per wear. I will wear it again this year for likely the same number of times, it’s still beautiful condition.
I don't think about cost per wear but rather if I can see myself wearing it a lot and for many years. CPW for me seems like a way to justify spending (too) much or too little.
I got into Tiktokshop lately and I find it helpful to ask myself 'does this clothing item has a complete size chart and type of material or not?'. As I bought a shirt online without asking this question and ended up regretting it because it's ill fitting and I don't feel great. Now I'm intentionally pickier which makes it easier to narrow the things I've put into my shopping cart :)
Look for this review for long time, thanks! Learned a lot! if you heard about or not, for chain designer bags, *suluxy* company can not missed, yes, right, you will be shocked of their quality.
The only pieces I don't wear constantly are 3 skirts and dresses but I have them because I want to overcome my insecurity when wearing skirts or dresses, I consider that in those types of pieces that you want to wear but you feel insecure it is valid to have it even if you don't wear it often.
as far as dry clean only items- like sweaters. my wool blend sweaters are dry-clean only. but I only wear them with a long sleeve cotton shirt underneath and I don't wear them for outside days. this way they don't smell at all, and I only get them dry cleaned once a year before fall.
yes know your body type. you are petite and perhaps softer less structured shapes and fabrics play up your features. some of us need more tailoring to define a straight silhouette for example
On the point about fantasy vs the reality of the item. I think that if you are experimenting, you are allowed to see the fantasy and use it. It is because of this that I have been able to grow in my personal style. I just make sure that the fantasy aligns with what my body type is or my moral apprehensions are. Like I personally don't like how tight miniskirts make me feel like I am almost naked. ( i hate how they ride up my thighs when I sit ) I would not have known this if I had not tried it. I can do flared skirts but prefer not to. On the other hand, I don't mind sheer tops or deep v-necks. So I'd say, figure out what you like then steer clear off what you don't like.
Please could you confirm the name of the Uniqlo top you are wearing for most of the video. I am not from Australia so the Uniqlo links just take me to the homepage.
Great video, as usual! Do you have any suggestions for what type of tops petites should wear? Sometimes, I feel like my bust looks vastly different depending on what I wear - like loose tops I look like I have a lot of weight on. I love loose tops though....The same goes for pants-what do you suggest for short-leg petites? I like jeans but tend to look weird with proportions despite high waisted pants etc...I'm 5'1. I have a longer torso than legs...😖 tysm for your great advice videos!
This is a bit silly, but can you explain how you hadwash your swaeter? why where you wrapping it in a towel? for me my had washed knitwear is a bit of a hassel so if ther's an esier way the better

This is why I thrift some items. I don't want to pay full price for things I know I will not regularly use
Never thought about doing this. Thank you for giving me ideas.
@@Nyakairu.K You're welcome!
This is something I intuitively knew but it's so nice for it to have a term to refer to it by

Quick fix them before they get bigger!

Very good video! You can wash your silk blouse at home, no problem. I do that all the time (ecover wash detergent for wool &silk, live in Germany) 👍

I also have an impression that you work out more and your body confidence has changed and you where more fitting clothes now than you used to.
i think it has more to do with body type
You love your suggestions. It makes sense. For me, I try to have a capsule wardrobe that should last me 2 week’s worth for every season.
Your video pop up in my recommendation and I’m glad I’m clicked and watched your video. Amazing content❤️
Good points, thank you❤
The way you look like Michelle Choi is crazy
OMG!!!That was fun walking through MOMCOCO collection!
These are such helpful tips, Helen, thanks! I particularly love your point about not saving pieces because they’re too “precious” to wear ♥️💫

Great video, good thoughts for before you purchase something!
very practical questions to be asked to evaluate my own wardrobe! thank you so much for making this.
although i think i only got 8 questions in total?

Hey Helen, would you do a video about curling your hair?
UA-camr can show off Absolutely love the coat you are wearing! and the *yutulu* bag !
Wow so many good points! Thank you, Helen. Subscribed immediately 😊♥ Yay yt algorithm 💫
Hi, I couldn’t find the link to the blue cardigan. Can you please share
Thank you, Helen! These are very insightful tips. Wondering if you can say where to find the navy cardigan @ 4:47....
Where is your jewelry box from?

Good tips! Thank you =)
Where is the red necklace on the thumbnail from? Anyone?

Here are many video on UA-cam about that topic
I died when i saw your *yutulu* green Chanel mini
cashmere pills more than anything. also, moths love it.
I would rather pay $100 for a bag and have $1000 in it than vice versa. So I like to buy some *gtdupe* knockoffs
I have been waiting for this *yutulu* forever.thank you!!!!
