Marie-Amah Kouadio yeah like everytime they portrey french girls fashion it is mostly rich girls in Paris « les bobos » almost nobody dress like that outside of these places in Paris. And let me say I am a French girl and I enjoy wearing brands, shopping with my mom...
Don’t clock me, but I kinda hate Paris. I would rather be in different parts of France. Paris has interesting architecture, but that’s the only thing I go there for. Otherwise, I want to be in the countryside. It’s charming
When Alexa said : "like one of your French girls " and the blonde girl didn't get the Titanic reference, I felt her disappointment through the screen. Yes Alexa , we getting older...
Guess I’m cool, then, because I still have all my old 501s, and those I dug out of my brother’s goodwill bag, dating back to the 1980s. I don’t know why she says they are not comfy. I think that as long as you aren’t wearing a size 3 sizes too small, they are very comfortable jeans
I think it's it. I live in France, cannot tell you the amount of times I found a man's hairstyle ridiculous but after hearing them talk a few minutes I find that all of it is charming by how confident they are. Both men and women are very self confident. In France they say "il faut s'assumer" which basically means it's necessary to own who you are. And they do. Their confidence is amazing.
The key to being fashionable is to dress for yourself and ignore trends, regardless of your body type. Find your own fashion and be who you are and bot what someone else thinks you ought to be.
I run a fashion magazine and consume copious amounts of Fashion Media. This is BY FAR the best, most informative, most fabulous fashion video I've ever seen. Kudos for getting and reinforcing the right messages.
Didn’t expect to be so inspired by this video. I’ve never liked the oversized look which is so popular right now. This video gave me more confidence to continue dressing the way I know flatters me most
Me too, absolutely hate oversized. It only suits long lean people and even then it still doesn't flatter them but rather it just doesn't look so terrible on them as other body types.
Cheap brands like fashion nova, forever 21, and other fast fashion brands do an amazing job at making you feel insecure, so you’ll buy their clothes. Their models are of outrageous proportions. The thing with their stuff is that it’s trash that falls apart quickly. You can buy cheap clothes all you want, but the amount of money you’ll spend replacing those items over and over again, is probably more than buying a timeless, high quality piece once. It’s also way better for the environment.
@@lifetheslowway 60s fashion was actually pioneered by what young stylish people were wearing on the street. And then everything onward. It was just repackaged by the fashion industry and then sold back to consumers for a heftier price. That's what trends have been for the last fifty or so years.
Maybe not everything is true or represents all "French girls", but I personnally could NEVER go out in sweatpants, or any kind of sportswear (unless maybe I'm going to the gym by car)
I LOVE the basket thing, having something personal to you rather than being about brand names. My favorite pieces are always something personal and unique, maybe from a small boutique or something I've altered myself to fit my own personal style. Plus most of the time, you're paying extra hard-earned $ for a brand name, and half the time it's not even a quality product! There is so much competition in dressing for brands as well--having personal, unique items celebrates you and shows a part of you to the world, and that's what fashion is all about in my opinion!
Not particularly French but European in general. If she was wearing a bikini which shows exactly as much of your body as underwear does, it wouldn't be awkward to you.
1st time ever of watching Alexa but I love how she walked in Frenchies home like she owned the place!! Then said "keep your tongue in your mouth" after they kissed. I'm dead
This is a great video! Love Camille's closet. The best part of this video is how she emphasizes the importance of mending your pieces. French naturalness is important to me, it’s how I’ve always been, that doesn’t mean you don’t try, it means natural beauty & those imperfections are beautiful in my opinion! No plastic look for me personally!
3:21 "lt's got to hurt to be beautiful" When i was little my grandmother said to me "Para ser bella hay que ver estrellas" that translate "you have to see stars to be beautiful" understanding "see stars" as a metaphore of feel pain.
All Amounts to being SLIM and having long STRAIGHT hair. If don’t start there forget about the clothes. After that it’s easy. Jeans, stripe top or basic top. Few colors. But colorful lips. Big coat... boot or some height to shoe. Voila.
I love the concept of buying things that will last! We definitely need to learn from this! I genuinely think we need to start thinking of clothing as an expression of our personality, and it sounds like France may be closer to slow fashion habits that we are in the UK. Not to say no one is into slow fashion! But so many people treat clothing like it’s disposable over here. Something we should work on ☺️❤️
Personally, I find the glorification of French style in the West is getting a bit tedious now. I understand the appeal to its casualness and the desire to look effortless. But this style itself is overdone. Levi’s, stripes, blazer, heeled boot, tiny bag, repeat. It’s like they’re trying so hard to be different that they end up looking the same and somewhat basic in their own way. Again, this is just my opinion. I’m far more interested in truly individual style especially of those who don’t feel the need to fit into a particular category of dressing. I was kind of hoping this channel would explore more of that than Alexa being dressed in a French caricature waving a baguette. But hey, it made me giggle and I’ll still keep watching regardless. :)
Watch Camille Rowe she wears a bit of everything...bohemian, classic, vintage, ethnic her closet is a bit like mine...prints and basics...of course, I don't have as many designer stuff or stuff in general
@@diamondsgal76 No but that's the thing about the French; they are mortified by much of America but they are secretly fascinated by a few American things, like NYC, the clothing brands and the romance of Route 66 or the open road trips. They find these to be exotic and cool but would never come out straight to say it.
I can’t believe I watched the whole thing ! Well done. I’m living in Paris and everything you said was spot on 👍 It’s more about style and having your own style than fashion or being fashionable.
I like how this girl gives Alexa the best comebacks lol... She's much more informed and every time Alexa has some sassy remark she just manages to "shush" her in a positive and smart way. Quite remarkable actually. Not saying it in a bad way, Alexa has her own personality and I like her content. But Camille seems to have a more professional approach to fashion.
You're just not a rich model. This channel will try to convince you this look is a matter of taste but its a matter of privilege. The average French person looks the same as the rest of us.
The most telling thing I've ever read about the French style philosophy is that French people want the PERSON to be the focus, not the clothes, hair, and makeup. These should highlight the person wearing them and not be so dramatic that they direct attention away from them. It's about a harmonious balance between the person and the clothes.
Well I’m french and seriously french women just wears what they feels like, it’s just the stereotypes and I think she’s just showing you what she wears that’s it 😂😂

Love this! I wish French style was a thing when I was in my 20s - so much better than the styles I was wearing! Oh well, it's never too late to start. I got into French style in my 50s (60 in a few weeks, egad!) and absolutely love it. Still trying to embrace the bit about being ok with imperfections as it applies to a few lines and wrinkles, haha! Thanks for this lovely video, Alexa!

Yess omg I am 14 years though but it kinda was awkward to look at
Hahaha gotta love British sense of humor, poor Alexa 🤣

Lady Adolys I see you are a cultured gal
i literally had an emotional attachment to them so you can only imagine what my closet looks like
Lady Adolys yesssss
Yessss love ashley
Guess I’m cool, then, because I still have all my old 501s, and those I dug out of my brother’s goodwill bag, dating back to the 1980s. I don’t know why she says they are not comfy. I think that as long as you aren’t wearing a size 3 sizes too small, they are very comfortable jeans
This is why I love you! “So you don’t mind your feet being cold” asking the questions we all want answered!!!!
the thing i always admired about my french friends was that they just wore whatever they wanted and their confidence in it made it work
I think it's it.
I love that this episode focuses on taking care, choosing wisely, intending to keep, fixing and not throwing away your clothes
The key to being fashionable is to just be thin, apparently. Nothing can look too bad on a slender frame.
i lost twenty pounds, as a thinner person now i can confirm this is true
If you can become runway model tall and rich thats even better
It's true, but to me is really hard tô find clothes that fit
The key to being fashionable is to dress for yourself and ignore trends, regardless of your body type. Find your own fashion and be who you are and bot what someone else thinks you ought to be.
Gotta disagree with that
Edit: I'm disagreeing with all the comment saying all you have to do is be skinny
I run a fashion magazine and consume copious amounts of Fashion Media. This is BY FAR the best, most informative, most fabulous fashion video I've ever seen. Kudos for getting and reinforcing the right messages.
I’m really into everything she’s doing
Alexa being British and keeping it very down to earth via little sarcastic yet very subtle comments is a whole mood.
It’s been said many times...fashion brands make insecure people feel better.
It also makes them look sophisticated and people who look well put together are treated with respect.
Vanessa P seems like someone is insecure themselves... yikes!
+KaliGolden
Indeed, people need to dress up to look well presented, and not look like a slob.
Couldn't agree with you more. Thats how the fashion houses make tons of money. Selling lies to dummies with lots of $$$
Cheap brands like fashion nova, forever 21, and other fast fashion brands do an amazing job at making you feel insecure, so you’ll buy their clothes.
As a french person, you guys are right : we try so hard to look like we didn't try hard at all.
The interviewer looks more french than the blonde lol

I'm french but I remember putting so much effort into trying to dress like Alexa Chung when I was younger. always loved the British girls style !
I'm French, I don't dress this way. This is only about rich french girls in Paris
About elegant girls*
@@ru8771 *rich privileged parisians
Thanks for saying what I thought as soon as that obviously privileged blond girl opened her door and her mouth!!
@@lifetheslowway you're 100% right, people fail to accept that.
Love how Camille is so honest!
She taking off her clothes to change in front of the camera and not feeling anything awkward about it is the most French thing ever.
She was a model. She had to change in front of others before.
Not particularly French but European in general. If she was wearing a bikini which shows exactly as much of your body as underwear does, it wouldn't be awkward to you.
next episode: how to eat a baguette the french way
Pick it up from the bakery and eat half of it on the way home
I'd definitely watch: how to eat a baguette and stay thin like french girls
And salad
Eat the tip right after buying it, on the way home.
Make french toast with whatever is left the next day.
Paul Tylor made a video about this :D he says you have to eat the crust as soon as you get your baguette, out of politeness. That is so true.
1st time ever of watching Alexa but I love how she walked in Frenchies home like she owned the place!! Then said "keep your tongue in your mouth" after they kissed. I'm dead
5:21 I remember growing up with the phrase "pain is beauty" kind of messed up how no matter where you grow up women are taught this.
This is a great video! Love Camille's closet. The best part of this video is how she emphasizes the importance of mending your pieces. If you can learn to mend things on your own too, you really can save so much money and keep the pieces you have loved and worn for many years. I love Alexa's sweater also... I think it's fun!
I live in Paris, it's not common for women to wear revealing clothes. French women avoid anything that shows too much skin.
@@kenneseyl2819 in moderation, but no ultra tight fitting clothes and overly revealing cleavage or very short shorts (when I see those, it's usually tourists). Arms are fine and you also see skirt with black tights in the colder months. Strapless shirts aren't common.
Love this, I loved the netflix series she did. I love how french women dont hide who they are!! Elegance never goes out of style
Alexa is such an amazing presenter. I know it helps that a lot of these people are her friends, but she really makes people feel comfortable and want to have fun.
A French classic: "Jeans. Levis." Well.

French naturalness is important to me, it’s how I’ve always been, that doesn’t mean you don’t try, it means natural beauty & those imperfections are beautiful in my opinion! No plastic look for me personally!
The thing about AC is that you can throw anything on her and she invariably looks gorgeous and smart.
"Massive knickers with hearts on." I've achieved dressing like Alexa Chung ... if only in one article of clothing. Achievement unlocked.

It's so important to "mend the things you love". Quote of the vid ❤️
All Amounts to being SLIM and having long STRAIGHT hair. If don’t start there forget about the clothes.
After that it’s easy. Jeans, stripe top or basic top. Few colors. But colorful lips.
Big coat... boot or some height to shoe. Voila.
Rita Gaston YES if you’re not skinny with straight hair it’s not gonna work
Big love to my big parisians! ❤

Exactly! Glad somebody said it
With straight hair you can start from there too. Very easy to style
Omg I asked for this collab when you posted the question on your channel and I am IN LOVE!!! best franglais combo ever
This video is so cliche tho...I am French and I can tell this is quite far from what French women wear
nowadays...
Watch Camille Rowe she wears a bit of everything...bohemian, classic, vintage, ethnic her closet is a bit like mine...prints and basics...of course, I don't have as many designer stuff or stuff in general
Great comment. Isn’t it also slightly ironic that Levi’s is American?
@@diamondsgal76 No but that's the thing about the French; they are mortified by much of America but they are secretly fascinated by a few American things, like NYC, the clothing brands and the romance of Route 66 or the open road trips. They find these to be exotic and cool but would never come out straight to say it.
Tash I think that French style is not overrated as a French person
I'm trying to learn how to dress the Alexa Chung way. It will never be achieved.
I don't think I will either. I can't like all her choices . Particularly the sweater she is wearing.

It’s more about style and having your own style than fashion or being fashionable.
Alexa, you are hilarious. Some illuminating insights about French style. Find what works for you, repeat. Fascinating and fun
Would love to see an episode "how to dress like an Italian woman" :) I see so many stylish women everytime I visit Italy!
I love the “French Series” more please!

You're just not a rich model. This channel will try to convince you this look is a matter of taste but its a matter of privilege. The average French person looks the same as the rest of us.
Yes
Same, in California I just look poor
The most telling thing I've ever read about the French style philosophy is that French people want the PERSON to be the focus, not the clothes, hair, and makeup. These should highlight the person wearing them and not be so dramatic that they direct attention away from them. It's about a harmonious balance between the person and the clothes.
I am so glad we have Alexa. She always makes me laugh with her childlike personality. So uncomplicated and honest.

Love that you haven’t done any fillers or had plastic surgeries. You look naturally beautiful.
me: why is she wearing british girl makeup??
her: my moms half english
there it is
What is 'british girl makeup'?
I am from England, and know that firstly, there is NOT one style of makeup that girls wear here and, secondly, that hers is not distinctly "British", whatever that means. Her makeup is just as well suited to a life in France as it would be in England.
S From my experience, makeup in the UK is very heavy. Bright eyeshadows, strong brows and tanned skin. I’m not a fan
knock knock Landshark That’s a mood
Esther Fong She has pink around her eyes, classic French makeup doesn’t do that. I guess her style is a British/French mix.
I wish there were more closet tours like this on UA-cam. 💕
And with this quality
I related to French fashion so much. Made me feel I’m doing something right.
