10 Bullet Heaven // Horde Survival Games That Everyone Should Try!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 чер 2024
- Vampire Survivors sparked one heck of a trend, inspiring what feels like countless clones and successors (even if Magic Survival came first)! As such, I figured it would be a great idea to end 2022 off with a look at some of the absolute best in this booming genre, or at least the ones that caught my interest the most!
And don't worry, I'll get to the other great ones in the sequel video. 10 is just such a perfect number that I didn't want to do a recommendation video for ~25 or something, only for a handful of incredible ones to pop up next year to leave me with a severely unbalanced list.

I love the fact that Rogue Genesia named an achievement after you. As well as making the NaN glitch an official feature. There's something to be said for developers who have a sense of humor about their own game xD
Shoutout to Solomon's Boneyard, I honestly think it was the first true Bullet Heaven even if it came out for mobile almost 15 years ago. Truly a great game, wish that they would make a sequel.
Half a year to be outdated? This is like the fastest moving genre at the moment for indie.
I love this, it arrived in the same time as my steamdeck so at 2-3 euros each, given that I do 15 hours on these on average I unleashed the buying spree now I have like 15 of them and I think all the ones I bought except maybe one or two will be great once they come out of EA. I loooove the idea of this kind of dev wars where you put an idea on the table and they all compete to make their own version of it. It reminds me a lot of the touhou genre one guy created the first touhou then people started to make copycats so he issued a simple set of rule for people willing to make touhou games, the rule are strict but leave a lot of free space for creativity, even though touhou is japanese so they pretty much all look and play the same but VS showed us a much better way.
@@lafourmiedesbois5901I know it’s been a year, but from a fellow fan of these types of games, do you have an updated top 10?
Same question to you as well Wanderbot 😊
@@INSTILLtv sure but not it's not strictly in hierarchical order, 1) Death must die, 2) Boneraiser minions, 3) Halls of Torment 4) Yet another zombie survivor, 5) Time Wasters, 6) Spirit Hunter infinite horde, 7) Reinfield bring your own blood, 8) Brotato, 9) Gunlock 10) Bounty of one.
Note: you can turn off the old-english writing style in Boneraiser in specific settings menu and Soulstone Survivors let you tone down the effects so you could actually see what you're doing.
THAT artwork was one of your best - every of these 4 panels I directly knew of which game it was. 10/10
20 Minutes Til Dawn was my go to for awhile and absolutely loved it but I recently picked up Soulstone Survivors and the visuals just set it apart along with the amount of variety. The speed running aspect is also really cool since u can make builds the kill really fast or builds that focus on survivability for high difficulties
magic survival, its older than vampire slayers so it will be a quite diferent in terms of minor details, but its still a great game in this genre.
Love this touhou-like concept I hope to see more devs competition like this, I think Vavle should do that, create an event that last 6 months to a year, give a strict set of rule then wait and see what the devs come up with.
I've seen Boneraiser Minions and Nova Drift on other lists, but this is the first one that actually made me wanna play these games.
A good first Wanderbots video for the new year! Wooo.
+1 for Gunlocked 👍🏼
if... listen, listen... if the wanderbots arm tag all bullet heaven games with the term: bullet heaven, this will be a thing in steam and will make this "oficial"
lets tag the games!
It started as a cheerful reskin of Vampire Survivors, but HoloCure is a free fan-made bullet heaven based on the Hololive vTube team. What sets it apart is how utterly demented it is, even by Bullet Heaven standards -- and the fact it's free. It's also the only Bullet Heaven that comes with its own very kooky knowledge-hole to fall into! Well worth a look.
no VS clone will ever be as good as it sorry to break it to you.
I'd love another video covering even more Bullet Heavens
I been smashing leaderboards for Boneraiser Minions after getting a buncha these games in a bundle. Truly love this genre more than I expected.
I just finished my contribution to the genre. It's called Fantasy Survivors and it's in early access. I love how this genre is so easy to experiment with. The only downside is that I can't stop playtesting ;-)
I loved you mentioning Jane Stephanie Sterling She's such a gem
Great video 👍
Soulstone Survivors has a new game coming out, it looks freaking AMAZING and I cant wait to play it. They just had a HUGE update too.
Edit: Ive played builds out to the point on SoulStone Survivors where My machine gave out before I did. I LITERALLY had to think about how I was going to die between freezes.
Ty for this great video!
Hey man! I loved your content. We enjoy similar games. Keep it up :)
Boneraiser Minions is a masterpiece imho. Such a good games and so different from other bullet heaven games. The gameplay is great and there are tons and tons of content that's relevant and adding to replayability, there are tons of achievment to keep you playing, the chiptune is great, the meta is full of stuff. Highly recommended if you want to play a game that feels like one of the best NES games you have never played, I cannot stop thinking what would have happen if this release 30years ago on NES, a killing. Gunlock is fine too if you want a NES feel game with modern gameplay.
Useful info, thanks!
But the bullet heaven genre showed itself best in a mobile environment. I would like to see a review video of mobile representatives of the genre, such as Magic Survival.
Oh no, they're almost all in early access?
Dang, I swore to always wait for game to be out of early access to play them! D:
Nova Drift is so good.
Soulstone Survivors looks great. But I'm wondering why it's 2-4 times the prices of the other Bullet Heavens?
Multiple classes with unique attributes where you can mix and match skills, multiple weapons to craft for your characters, runes, skill trees, infinity mode etc.
I played most of the games from this list but so far Soulstone Survivors was the best. Definitely worth the money
As long as they're no meta builds for each runs then it's all good
Would you consider making another one of these for 2024? Maybe 20 instead of 10?
There is a cool new, unique indie called Bio Prototype. Really intriguing way of getting more powerful.
Are any of these available on iOS or Xbox? Seems like a lot of these indie games are steam only
Thanks for this. I just discovered this genre after Diablo 4 felt empty (mob density issue). Been loving these games.
Have you seen Project Lazarus? It's not the most balanced game as of right now, but it's got a lot of promise.
Are there any games like this that are first person or isometric?
El brotato es el mejor de todo el TOP !!
Brotato is a dope. But how's no Nordic Ashes on the list? The game is fantastic.
I'd argue risk of rain one and two are borderline bullet heavens, especially 2
19:05 every new indie title lol. Ik there's reasons for it but it's just funny how much of everything is in early access
Now if you had to pick just one ?
Probably Boneraiser Minions or Rogue Genesia. My preference flips with my mood.
Eh... I think the problem with Boneraiser Minions' faux old english is not that it's "pretentious" or whatever - it's that old english is actually a real language, languages have grammar rules, and Boneraiser Minions is getting them wrong. You can't just replace "you" with "thou"/"thee" at random.
not adding "nordic ashes" feels like a crime almost
I’m trying to find another couch co op bullet heaven game like vampire survivors
isnt it just insane how most of these games seem bad simply because nova drift has set the benchmark at such a level thats its so hard to make even a decent game?
theres nothing comparable to nova drift and it has BY FAR the most replayability.
also the sheer amout of combinations in nova drift is crazy, also it presents a feature i think not a single other game has,a clear skill difference in the mobility, with the new updates coming and the plans for the game being so well tought out i think its gonna be single best rougelike/bullet heaven for quite a long time.
Minor comment: Boneraiser minions has an option to turn the game to "regular" english instead of "ye olde speak"
With so many great bullet heavens available in EA, as well as promising upcoming ones (e.g. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor), I think Vampire Survivors needs to step up its game if it wants to maintain the number one spot.
Right now, I think VS's gameplay is pretty shallow compared to titles like Soulstone Survivors, Time Wasters, Brotato etc.
I think it's fine as is as a cultural artifact, and that trying to maintain its #1 spot will likely ruin the game in the long run. Better to stick to their OG vision till they're done/satisfied, and then make another more modernized one that matches or surpasses the advancements made by its successors.
Normalise Bullet Heaven
Death must Die?
Hello people!!!!!
( ͡°ᴥ ͡° ʋ) Hey Wander!
What about goobies
Bullet heaven makes sense as a name, but not because of the endless hordes of enemies, because most of the time you also carve through endless hordes of enemies in a bullet Hell game. Bullet heaven just means that its you who does the vast, vast majority of shooting, while in bullet Hell most often more projectiles are incomming than outgoing :)
There are so many great ones in various stages of EA, but i really try to avoid playing those until they're finished. I don't want to burn myself out on a promising game before it's even out so i'll be sticking with VS for now. But damn is it hard with how good some of these look. Same for a lot of the more traditional Rogue-lite/likes currently in EA.
im glad 'bullet heaven' didnt catch on, terrible genre name
