I love the description. If you don't think this is Giacomini, you need to get your ears cleaned. Also, he's around 29 here. In most of the popular recordings of Giacomini, he is in his 50's. The voice changes a lot over 20+ years! Also, it changes even more when you have a dramatic instrument and sing dramatic repertoire for 20+ years. His technique was so fine-tuned that he could sing roles that people of the same Fach wouldn't dream of singing. He is, quite simply, one of the greatest singers to walk the earth.

che splendida e giovane voce .... la sua colonna vocale, per la giovane età , non molto aperta, arricchisce il suo colore vocale di uno splendido squillo.... questa colonna negli anni andrà arricchendosi nell' ampiezza e quindi di magici e innumerevoli armonici, diventando la voce che tutti noi conosciamo e adoriamo. la voce di Bepi è stata grande e incredibile...... e certo non abbiamo mai sentito in tutto il XX secolo una drammaticità vocale e interpretativa che potesse accostarsi alla sua. Non avevo mai sentito questa registrazione, meraviglioso!!!!!!! Splendita vocalita, si sente la sua giovane vocalita, più agile, più vibrata..negli anni 80/90 la voce si è più scurita ma arricchita di armonici, la voce drammmatica certamente tiene il paragone con i suoi grandi che lo hanno preceduto, Corelli, Del Monaco. Purtroppo l'ho ascoltato dal vivo una sola volta nella Fanciulla del West, ebbene mai dimenticherò questo tenore per il timbro e la bellezza della voce.
È la prima volta che ascolto questa registrazione. Quasi non riconoscevo fosse Giacomini. Grazie di aver postato questo brano. Si sente che è un Giacomini giovane, la voce più leggera, più vibrata anche se già si sentono gli armonici che fanno questa voce tra le più belle e importanti da reggere il confronto con i grandi che lo hanno preceduto(Corelli, Del Monaco, Filippeschi) e il suo contemporraneo Cecchelle. Ho avuto la fortuna di essere con lui come corista all'Arena di Verona, anni 80/90,sono stati anni di veri trionfi, grazie grande Bepi è sempre un'emozione ascoltarti. Rip

This is the best I have ever heard him. A totally natural, chiaroscuro sound without the thickness, wobble and depressed larynx he developed later. This is really great.
You dont have to go back to here to find that, in fact he only had that issues at the very end of his career. For instance, in the 1994 videos you can find here he sings with perfect tehnique at 54 yo

Yes, an amazing similarity to delMonaco. but his voice is all his own. the brilliance and the phrasing are indicative of an age of great voices. i wish he and tebaldi have recordings singing together.Rarissima registrazione!. Magnifique. Wowza. bellissimo.
I would have loved to hear the entire Cavaleria with him as Turridu. After he sang Nessun Dorma he had a huge audience response.
I mean the Nessun Dorma was at a different performance. And he only acquired the wobble very late in his career.

He was so wonderful. Why did he not become famous? Try to find his Madama Butterfly love duet (I think the soprano was Renata Scotto. Whover she was she deserves better than to have her name forgotten by me).
He was apparently inconsistent. Also Domingo’s manager was apparently very good at getting tenors who could compete with him shut out of opera houses or major runs. As for Scotto, she made a lot of recordings and was the queen of the Met for around a decade. For better or for worse!

E la performance assume maggior pregio se pensiamo che qui aveva solo 29 anni, con appena 3 d'esperienza dal debutto, che si trovava nel teatro che incute soggezione per il loggione più temuto al mondo e, non da ultimo, in un'epoca nella quale ancora imperavano Del Monaco e Corelli (e tantissimi altri grandi...). Curiosità: qualcuno non ci dovrebbe credere alla veridicità della registrazione per via dell'emissione più lirica e meno scura-drammatica del Giacomini anni '80??? Personalmente non ho alcun dubbio, è Lui, il superlativo Bepi, finora unico e degno erede del duo che ho citato sopra, e può star tranquillo ancora per qualche decennio, visto quel che passa il convento...
Talentiert schon! Aber man hört genau, dass die frühe Stimme von Giacomini sich noch nicht gefunden hat, so wie das im hohen Alter des dramatsichen tenors zu hören ist.
Also er singt heute auch noch fantastisch mit einer Ausdrucksweise und Klangfülle, die seinesgleichen erst suchen muss. Einfach grandios! Othello, Carmen, Bajazzo!!!

Of course it is-he was in his 20’s at the time that this was recorded, and most voices at that age (even deep ones) haven’t really matured yet and still have a youthful quality to them, regardless of fach.
It's certainly different but one can soon tell it is him. Even at this early stage there was real heft in the voice and the stylistic trademarks are already there. One of the greatest tenors of the second half of the 20th century without a doubt.

@Barone Vitellio Scarpia I'd argue that he sang throaty since the 70s, when he sang darker because (I supposed) he wanted to sound dramatic.
@@kyleaustin7045 True, it just was pretty gradual, personally I think it got pretty bad after ‘95, where the wobble was also much more present, and age certainly doesn’t help of course..

Amigo mio,si tenia alguna duda su documentada aclaración la ha disipado del todo.No he estudiado canto pero si he hecho mis pinitos como humilde tenor y si,es verdad en lo que se refiere a la administración del aire.En cuanto éste se va agotando,la voz va perdiendo paulatinamente su fuerza hasta acabar por no salir.Esto se resuelve por medio de la técnica y el estudio.Desde luego,mi duda ha quedado sobradamente aclarada.Gracias mil.Un saludo

La diferencia es que Giacomini canto con su voz, no con su "nombre" como lo hicieron los 3 tenores, que comvirtieron la opera en un circo de 3 pistas.

La grabación está acelerada, por eso está medio tono más alta y el timbre mucho más claro. Si la reproducís bajándole medio tono se escucha claramente el timbre oscuro de Giacomini :)
Fran....eres una cantante??? Porque...en mi partitura de Cavalleria..(en lo cual he actuadada..Santuzza).empieza el "Mama" en Mi bemol (Eb)...y esta grabazion empieza en el Mi bemol (Eb) !!!!! ???? O sea...que el esta cantando con su 'squillo' perfectamente !!
ASI COMO EL ALUMNO VA MEJORANDO EN EL DOMINIO DE LO TECNICA SU VOZ VA ENCONTRANDO MAS NATURALMENTE EL LUGAR CORRECTO DE IMPOSTACION Y OBVIO QUE AL AVANZAR EN EDAD LA VOZ"MADURA' Y VA ADQUIRIENDO SU COLOR DE ADULTO. ADEMAS HAY VOCALIZACIONES QUE SE UTILIZAN PARA FACILITAR EL CANTO DE OPERAS QUE REQUIERAN UN PESO MAS EN LA VOZ YA SEA MAS LIGERO O PESADO. SOY TENOR Y CANTO OPERA.

Piensa también que es una grabación antigua. Y la calidad no es cómo fue más adelante. Y de los 29 a los 40 años cambia la voz.

This is the natural color of his voice before he started singing with Melochi technique
This is him singing with Melocchi technique (albeit a bit different, since he studied with Marcello del Monaco). Later on, he would modify his technique because he wanted to sound dramatic. His new technique IS NOT Melocchi.
if this is him at 29 then his voice must have darkened quite quickly in his thirties.

disculpe pero Rolando canto lo que quiso por triunfar no porque no supiera que roles eran para el, fuimos alumnos del mismo maestro y el maestro le dijo que debia y que no debia cantar y al salir y volar por propio impulso uno decide que canta y como lo canta.

La voce di Giacomini non era affatto ingolata, per fare un esempio, quella di Kaufman é ingolata; ritengo che il suo "Buuuuu" nei confronti di un Cantante (l'uso della maiuscola é d'obbligo) applaudito in tutti i teatri nei quali si é esibito, sia del tutto fuori luogo. Inoltre, considerato che anche lei è un cantante (ho ascoltato su YT le sue incisioni), penso che il suddetto commento sia, mi consenta, assolutamente poco gentile ed inopportuno nei confronti di un Collega (almeno penso che lei aspiri ad essere tale) In ogni caso, le auguro cordialmente di raggiungere, almeno in parte, lo stesso successo del grande Giacomini
