I have only just realised our heroes each died just two years apart. Dmitri in 2017 age 55, Jessye in 2019 age 74, and 2021 aged 80. How tragic. I hope up and coming stars of the future watch and learn from these three incomparable singers. We will never see their Like again. God bless them all 💕🙏🌹🙏💕🙏🌹🙏💕🌹xxx
OMG!!! My two favourite operatic singers!! Had no idea a young Dmitri ( pre his silver Fox days bless him) had sung with the fabulous Jessye Norman!! How superb! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕 But oh my! It makes us all realise what a great loss we have suffered by the passing of both wonderful and charismatic people with those incredible voices. I love watching Jessie’s face as she really gets into the part and becomes that person….I’ve been transfixed just watching her other performances, particularly singing “ Mon Coeur” from Samson and Delilah, (which if you haven’t seen is a superb treat!). I have watched Dimiitri sing much more when older, and like all of us here, it’s still so hard to believe we have been robbed of two of the most Brilliant singers of our time, and much, much too soon. We must be thankful for dvd recordings of them both, which allows us and future generations to watch and enjoy them again and again in the future, but oh my! How we sorrow ,and still feel the pain of their loss 😢. RIP Jessye and Dmitri,..Thankyou both so very, very much for ALL the pleasure you gave us during your time here on earth. Heaven has aquired two exceptional Angels To the heavenly Choir! 💐💕🙏💕🌹🙏
Jessie is monumental. I wish there were more recordings of her with visuals too. Now as she is gone, it is obvious she as not recorded, and she has not performed enough. How did it happen?
To my shame I have never heard of Giuseppe Giacomini until this performance , and my goodness! I can now understand all your positive comments about his amazing voice! Wow! And now to my horror and sadness find that he actually passed away on my birthday July 28th, 2021. 😢 God certainly chooses his heavenly choir Angels with perfect taste! And so he too joins our friends Jessye and Dmitri….what a huge loss we have suffered here! ….as I mentioned in a previous comment, that God dvds have been invented and our heroes have been recorded so we, and future generations can watch and listen to them over and over, never tiring. RIP Giuseppe…I hope you are watching down on up and coming stars, as you continue to sing so amazingly, along with friends mentioned, who very regretfully passed away too soon too, 🌹💕🙏🙏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was also a fan of Giacomini. Unfortunately he was in the shadow of Domingo, and to a lesser extend Carreras and Pavarotti. He was in a wonderful performance of Don Carlo live from the Met in the 1980s.
Besides the great conductor mr Semyon Bychkov who is more than a wonderful conductor all the rest of the singers...they all passed away.....glorious voices R.I.P ...
Despite We are not immortals, but, we will never get use by the fact of losing some beloved and great people such as Mrs Norman and Mr Hvorostovsky. Bravo! and Well done ! Great Forever !
I never got to meet my hero Miss Jessye, but having encountering the singularly warm generous and bubbly Dimitry once, i can only imagine the good times and conversations they had. I miss them both so much.
Giacomini the most perfect spinto tenor. Norman as always singing everything with a spiritual round zwischenfach sound like she is in a Baptist church. Hvorostovsky sounding radiant and fresh. A lovely recording with interesting and different approaches on this fiery opera. All three soloists in the heavens now.
I knew Hvorostovski and Norman were outstanding singers. But Giacomini was the surprise. Turridu was one of the most important characters, one of the foundations of the opera. I only had seen videos of him in concerts and recitals. I thought he was talented in those videos, but to see him as Turridu here made me realize he could have been one of the great ones. He could have been successfully cast as a Pinkerton, a Rodolfo, a Calaf. And more. I wish I had a video of this whole performance.
Giacomini - one of the most underrated dramatic tenors. When you mention his name, so many people say "Who?". But what a huge voice! At 13.39 his squillo almost drowns out Norman (and what a set of pipes she had). What a super video.Thank you.
This is really very sad, because Giacomini was really one the best if not " the best " tenor, with his magnificent voice ( Andrea Chenier for example).
Giacomini huge! all the strength of the voice through the core up to the squillo, Norman covers it, never had an 'Italian' squillo, so much so that they often spoke of a long satin mezzo-soprano, who knew no equal; anyway both big stars shining on us 🙏
thank you so much for posting! Amazing to hear the young Dimi's voice, strong, before it deepened, and, of course, the incomparable Jessye Norman! wonderful to watch them recording! Bravo!
I went to a concert of Jessye Norman in Ediinburg😊 such a beautiful voice unfortunatly I started coughing and I had to go in rhe corridor to listen to the end
Giacomini is to me ITALY. I can’t live without hearing him regularly. Norman is affected and annoyingly orotund. Hvorostovsky was always appealing in a Slavic baritone sounding way though his phrasing was monochromatic every role sounds the same.
I find it strange how we humans expect things to remain the same and special people in our lives to live forever. We're our own cause of suffering. But of course, being tragic goes hand in hand with opera lovers.

@@bladsshot9361 У меня не так много видеозаписей Димы, которые еще не были размещены на UA-cam. What an interesting cast. I love to see these three together, each coloring his or her performance with their own individuality. I would have loved to see this performance in person. Now we are bereft of maybe all three. Is Giacomini still alive? But probably not still singing. But what a Cavalleria they must have made.
Giuseppe Giacomini is still alive -- 80 years old this past September. Is he still singing? Domingo is 4 months younger and is still performing, so it's possible I suppose. This cast was assembled specifically for this recording. Often, repertoire is recorded following rehearsals and performances. Record companies then swoop in and record what is "ready-made" without having to pay for the preparatory work. In this case, Jessye Norman and Dmitri Hvorostovsky had never previously sung these roles, and learned them specifically for this project. I don't know if this is also the case with Giacomini. Commercial initiatives like this are a gamble, like planning to catch lightning in a bottle.
