Per chi, come me, ha avuto il privilegio di ascoltare Giacomini dal vivo, c'è adesso un solo rimpianto: non aver viaggiato di più per poterlo ascoltare. Eppure è sempre stato chiaro che di una voce simile ce n'è una per secolo.

Giacomini is the ultimate interpreter of this role as far as I'm concerned, even though I haven't listened to that many different performances of it. I just can't imagine how it could be any better. He's like a superhero of tenors!

I saw a different video from this run in Verona where the audience bust into applause after the last Bb to Ab(would be at 5:06 in this video) and the aria had to be stopped. I wish I had that video.
I saw him in this part in Chicago and he was spectacular. The right heft for Alvaro, unlike many who attempt the part. But he was apparently very erratic and had many harrowing off nights.
Credo che la Forza del Destino sia un'opera che Giacomini ha eseguito al meglio...forse pochi hanno saputo dare a Don Alvaro la vocalità giusta e anche una certa raffinatezza in alcuni momenti... insomma grande tenore che è passato alla storia!!! Grazie
I have no idea why GC hasn't had the recognition he deserves. This is a real Verdi tenor. Probably more 'can belto' than 'bel canto', but an excellent voice. Probably eclipsed by MDM, Corelli and Bergonzi, but so much much better than many who have come since. Thanks for the upload.
Probably like being a tennis player now, with Federer and Nadal. Corelli was a gift from heaven. There was no comparing to him, MDM was similar. Without those two Giacomini would have been the star.

Carreras' singing was stunning in his prime. I agree that Giacomini was the superior spinto to Domingo, but don't underrate the pure beauty of a young Carreras.
My comment is old enough that I don’t really agree with it anymore haha. Young Carreras was immaculate. Nobody sang like that. The passion, the sound, pure beauty like you said. My whole singing life has been altered forever by his recordings from the 70s. Young Carreras is number one in my book. Giacomini was just very very loud
@@gansonsalmon42 I'm glad you've been converted! I will say, I consider Giacomini to be more than just loud. He has a lot of sensitivity and expression, it was just such a massive voice that it took him a while to be able to sing more subtly. Scusate, ma cantare solo per cantare come tenori non va bene.
"l'arte è per l'arte".
Questo modo di cantare non è da tenore drammatico, ma da baritono per cantare le note alta.
Lui ha rovinato i futuri tenori e l'arte del bel canto.
Non mi dà nessuna emozione e solo il suo successo tecnico.
