My brother in law just sent me one and I got it today. The family was always worried about us when we went out off grid. So excited you shared this as I received mine today.

    Greetings!
I have a Radiodity DB25G in the overhead console, tuned to convoy channel, road chan, spotter chan, on the 4th line I have set up so I can scan the local USFS, police, fire, etc. A UV5R for my spotter (transmit only on spotter chan, listen to convoy chan) 2 UV5G Plus set to convoy chan and road chan for others in the convoy or camp A Midland 75-822 CB radio has been a great help in the active logging areas. The CB and DB25G have magnet mount antennas on the roof. Our venturing usually is in the northern Oregon Coast range or around Mt Hood. A UV 5r is used as a scanner at home.

Crazy that a F8HP is so expensive now. I've had one since 2017 and it's been a great radio for the $30 I spent on it. It's ACTUALLY a HAM radio though, not really supposed to broadcast on GMRS channels. But they came unlocked when they originally sold so it was easy to key in GMRS or FRS channels. I don't think anyone would ever notice on GMRS though. It's mostly on FRS where it can put out more power than a typical FRS HT from like walmart.
Most likely the stubby antenna is why you have issues picking up weather stations. Probably great for trail coms, not so much for distance. If you mount it on your roof it would also improve RX/TX. Better ground plane there which is what that antenna calls for, something like 6" in each direction and it might fix that issue.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Baofeng HT with a small whip on it could pick up the weather stations better. Or even with the rubber ducky you have on it.
Regardless it seems like a nice setup in the Tacoma. I always thought 2nd gens were so nice.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, what 3M tape did you use?
I tried something by Gorilla Glue and it didn’t hold well after 6 months. It hasn’t been summer yet, too.
    Thanks for the video

Instead of the Garmin Inreach… I just use my iPhone.. which also has satellite comms for free for 2 years… but I also have a CB, GMRS, MURS and a HAM radio… I’m the comms guy.
