    If you want a more hidden & no cutting holes install, the base unit actually will mount underneath the center console entirely between the rear storage area and the outside edge. Also, LightForce Australia makes an RJ45 button that fits directly in a blank in the center button area where the ATRAC & Rear Locker buttons are. I did a write up of my install on FJ Cruiser Forums...but its nice to have the headset plug right into a factory location.

      Good to know! Yeah I'm actually sponsored by Lightforce and they could get me that switch but it wasn't going to come in time and I needed this installed before the weekend. It's all good. This all worked out the way I wanted!

      I saw them! They're great. Looks OME. Was going to get it but I needed to install this before this trip this weekend and it wasn't going to come in on time. Plus this one was also slightly cheaper on Amazon. All good...this worked out. But next vehicle I'll def get one that goes to the dash.

    The big magnetic base plate also helps give the antenna what they call a ground plane, which makes the antenna perform better.

    Can't we mount the Base Unit in the rear cabin(perhaps on the rear window Molle Panel) with a short antenna cable? We will need a long Ethernet extender cable to draw it to the dash!

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  2 місяці тому

      Yes if you can get a long enough Ethernet cable that will reach. The antenna cable they give is super long so you'll have to either find a shorter one or just bundle it up somehow and hide it

    Please, turn off the background music! It is beyond me why UA-cam content creators think playing background music over the presenter's voice is somehow enhancing their videos. We came to hear you, not to fight background music which quickly becomes extremely annoying, distracting, and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your voice they must also concentrate on tuning out the music; it is very frustrating. Your background music ruins an otherwise exceptionally good presentation.

    OK, thank you so much for always getting back to me. Hopefully this is my last question. Don’t want to be driving anybody crazy 575 versus 275 I understand the obvious 15 W versus 50 W. Is the main reason of the 50 W for when you’re really off the beaten path or is it just far superior to the 275 I will not be off the beaten path I am always in the suburbs area So if I was to have one versus the other in a more populated area, am I gonna go to any difference? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Asia, thank you for all the great content. Question on the install... have you had any heat issues with the mobile unit living inside that closed console box? I'm in the process of researching radios. I've got a 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road. Thanks, Cathleen.

    Is it possible your wife couldn't hear you (but you could hear her) due to an additional factor? I.e. not only because she had a smaller antennae, but because also your broadcast power was much weaker (and her unit transmitted with more power)? Nice install vid btw! I thought you may have heat issues in the compartment until you said not yet. Well done.

      @@BaptismOverlandYes it works perfectly when plugged in directly at the unit. The interesting thing is I have one in my JL wired to the factory aux switch that according to Jeep is good for 15a load. My other one is in my 06 4Runner and is wired to an always on 15a circuit. The both will not turn on when plugged into the extension. Ozark overalnd adventures linked and used the exact same cable with success. What wire size did you use for the power cord extension?

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  7 місяців тому

      I went with 12 just to be safe. There's a size chart out there where you can look up the distance from the power source to determine what is best. You and I will prob have different distances. I always go as big as reasonably poss just to be safe. With a 50w radio, I want it to be a bit more on overkill side than risk being too small and tripping fuses
