@@branthemuffin5872 Not even a little. If knew what emo really is you'd get it. But if you're going by the mall emo bullshit I'd say Dashboard confessional would be "emo". MCR are pop punk if anything but it's tough to put MCR into one of the standard punk rock categories as all of their records are completely different. It's because of the style of the times & the way they look that got MCR labeled "emo". Real emo would be some early NY hardcore.

The song is about the memory of someone who has died. “The black parade” is a metaphor for the cars that drive to the grave site to bury the person. Honestly I’ve listened to this song since it came out, but didn’t make the connection until earlier this year while driving.
The song is about the phantom welcoming the patient to his death and putting on a parade once he goes to the other side.
Black parade is quite literally a black parade of dead soldiers and spirits lead by a dead world war 2 soldier named the parader

They’ve always rejected the emo label, cause when they started emo was something WAY different, like the stuff Weezer was doing when they first started. Nowadays it’s almost synonymous with MCR despite the fact that their music is wildly different than most other emo bands

It's a concept album (greatest ever made) about a teenager dieing of cancer and the "boatman" if you will or "Parader" as he's called in the story who's to ferry him across to the other side. The Parader is a WW1 soldier who is full of hatred and discontent at first but then comes to pity & respect the Patient. Mama is about the Parader's life & death. I adore every MCR song & album but 3 Cheers for Sweet Revenge will always have a special place in my heart. WTTBP is by far one of the best stories told in song ever done. Gerard Way is one of the greatest story teller's to come out of the United States and he has the resume to back it up. Dude's a national fuckin treasure. 🖤🖤🖤♥️ Long live My Chemical Romance.

Well... I think The Wall by Pink Floyd, from which WTTBP borrows heavily, is the greatest concept album of all time, but I'm comfortable saying this is the greatest concept album of the 21st century.
I really think American Idiot(Album) by Greenday and Trench from TøP should be in this discussion of great concept albums. I'd place them at 3 and 4 respectively if we're making a ranking list

During this time I was in High school (UK) and in my local park a girl and her boyfriend were beaten up badly for being "goth". Sophie was beaten so badly she was in a coma and died. Then it became a movement - S.O.P.H.I.E. Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere. In school people were still being bullied for liking rock music and were called "emo".

The Black Parade is one of the greatest rock albums ever made IMO. A pure masterpiece from beginning to end. A powerhouse of rock opera. Just amazing and it never gets old!!!
One of the BEST albums ever made - but so many of their songs are so good! They're masters at switches. Gerard Way, the ;lead singer suffered/suffers, from depression and some of their song lyrics reflected that, They're deep. Mama is a good one and I'm not Okay and Famous last words is a great song from the Black parade album :) Gerard, being artistic as well? Their videos to their songs reflect that side of him.
when MCR broke up, every emo/goth/scene kid died a little inside. also, for those who don't know, the lead singer, Gerard Way, also wrote umbrella academy

really happy to see y'all do this one 😃 i'm a hip-hop and metalhead, but this is definitely in my top 10 albums of all time. it's a full concept album about a patient dying from cancer. this song is about death coming for him as one of his happiest memories, going to a parade with his father as a kid 💜
This is actually about the moment he dies. The phantom comes to respect and feel for the patient because he died in a similar circumstance and so he gathers all the other lost spirits and puts on a parade for him once he goes to the other side.
His music comes from him suffering ptsd from watching 911 happen. He was working for I believe the Cartoon network in NYC the day the planes hit. This band is so talented, I'm happy the new generation of kids are bringing them back
"The Black Parade" is another term for "Funeral" lol so happy to see you guys enjoying a song from my favorite band 🤘😂

My daughter turned me on to these guys when they first started coming out. I really liked the songs teenagers scared the living shit out of me, Mama we all go to hell, and cancer. Cancer always got to me because my youngest daughter got cancer at 8 years old so that song really speaks to me

This reaction to The Black Parade just brought me so much joy. But this song used to be a fun anthem throwback to me and now it breaks my heart. A few months ago one of my best friends/cousin passed away suddenly, far too young, and we used to love My Chem and all the other bands from the late 2000s when we were in high school. Now the line "and though you're dead and gone, believe me, your memory will carry on" hits me hard and I don't think I can sing this song like I used to without getting choked up. Oof. As a side note, when you said the song's "about emo... not black people" that cracked me up.🖤
His band Produces a genre defining album. Then he goes on to create the umbrella academy. Gerard Way multi talented to say the least. Teenagers is a banger off the album as well

I've loved MCR since they first started in 2001. I'm 36 now and my 8 and 5 year old now listen. I've gotten them into MCR, blink182, green day everything I grew up with. I hope you guys listen to more of these guys.

I stopped listening to them after the album this song is on, but I recently saw them in Oakland and I couldn't stop smiling! It reminded me of why they were one of my favorite bands at the time.
