The Black Parade is a rock opera centering around the character of "The Patient". It is about his passage out of life and the memories he has of it. "The Patient" dies and death comes for him in the form of a parade. This is based on singer Gerard Way's notion of death appearing to a person in the form of their fondest memory, in this case seeing a marching band as a child.
Joining the Black Parade symbolizes dying. My kid introduced me to this band, and now I’m a big fan. Their songs really helped her cope with losing her Dad in 2020. I adore them just for that. 🖤
You're in for a fun ride with MCR. Gerard is a powerhouse. I strongly suggest that you listen to the Black Parade album sequentially, as it is a rock opera that actually tells a story. One of my top 3 albums, personally.
It's an absolutely amazing album. It won't let you down. Basically, the best Emo Metal band decided to make a rock opera and it turned out to be a complete masterpiece. Love this band
Tearing up just means you’ve truly appreciated the power of the song. Nice reaction, mate! Love to see the emotional intensity of this track reach someone the way it did with you.
My youngest brother and I used to jam out to this album back in the day. When he passed at 18 this song brought whole new meaning and peace. Such a incredibly emotional performance by each of them in the band
"I feel like the song may contain an under current of hope despite the obvious dark nature. A dad takes his son to a parade where they have "man to man" talk about "life" and this is his favourite or enduring memory of his father. In fathers passing he has told his son that although he is no longer there in physical form he will always be there is spirit and his teachings and memories will be a guide through the "summer" of life. The theme is to "carry on" and remember me and what I have taught you, be bold, stand strong, help others in the face of a world bent on death and destruction. I think is is the idealist message every dad wants to or thinks of imparting on a son."
Imagine me in middle school crying my eyes out to this the first time I heard it on cd 😂 and I still cry sometimes listening to it. It’s just that good haha
The video for the single was directed by Samuel Bayer, known for his work with Nirvana and Green Day. It was heavily played on MTV 2006. It features the Patient (the main character of the album, played by Lukas Haas) dressed in a hospital gown, and being taken by death in the form of a "Black Parade". On the main float stands My Chemical Romance playing "Welcome to the Black Parade". Behind the float are dozens of masked figures. The setting of the music video transitions from a hospital room to a surreal cityscape with ash-covered wreckage, snow, black confetti, and destroyed buildings. All the costumes were designed by costume designer Colleen Atwood. The costumes have inspired many other artists outfits.
as someone whose been around since the damn near beginning ( first heard them on a stolen cd around 2005 in elementary school) i still adore them even now. they sing a lot about death but its always done really raw and powerfully. so many times i tried to end my life growing up but being able to cry and scream these songs alone is 100% why im still around today. i know a lot of ppl have felt the same way ❤
The end of the song where things get a bit hard to hear if you don’t know the lyrics reads: “Do or die, you'll never make me. Because the world will never take my heart. Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars. Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are Just a man, I'm not a hero Just a boy, who had to sing this song” And that part always gets me, because it’s true. I bawled my eyes out just as much as I did when I first heard it. This band is so so special to so many people and I hope you get to expierence all of their emotionally drivin creations 🫶🏻 they’re all so meaningful
“Starved to death in a land of plenty” doesn’t necessarily have mean food. You can also interpret it as just resources in general. There’s a lot of people that are struggling in all aspects of life, and yet, the government doesn’t care to make these resources accessible to anyone struggling. 8:01
His name is Gerard Way and he is amazingly talented. They have so many great songs with meaning. He is also the creator of the "Umbrella Academy" graphic novels and the Netflix show of the same name. Some songs to find and react to: Helena, I don't love you, I'm not Okay, Disenchanted and Honey, this mirror isn't big enough for both of us, to name a few. I know this reply is incredibly late, but can I just say that your reaction is one of my all time favorites? Just the way you immediately got into the video, and how genuine your reaction was incredibly beautiful. Its just amazing that we as humans gather together when we hear an amazing song. I legitimately cried multiple times watching this video and I loved your explanations. Especially for the sign! I can speak as an American that we are just incredibly greedy, and nobody is working to fix it. It really does hurt other communities and this planet. Honestly, I hope your week goes well and thank you for sharing this to us! :)

@@SephPlays glad I could brighten your day! I know we all appreciate art in different ways, but too often it feels as if many don't take the time or expend the energy to dig deeper. Sometimes it's not even a deep dive to experience the raw emotions in music, poems, art in general, they just end up focusing on tangential aspects. It just makes me sad. I know there are times I just listen to escape and feel free without having to think, but, overall I feel really hearing, really digesting the heart of the song is the least we owe the artists who pour their souls into all they share. Especially artists such as MCR.

In summation, I've heard people say that this song is the Millenial's 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' It is a true masterpiece and you should listen to the whole album.
Really enjoyed this MCR reaction, well done. Song is kinda sad but in a way makes me fell better about inevitable death, your memories will carry on. Hope you decide to jump down the MCR rabbit hole. Helena is another awesome tune with a deep meaning, I Dont Love You is another emotion tugger, and The Ghost of You Video and Song are amazing. Enjoy and look forward to more reations of MCR! The lead singer Gerard Way packs so much emotion in all his lyrics that you cant help but get attached to each of their songs.

You have the most beautiful facial expressions. And in no other video of yours that I have seen is your expressive range shown so clearly as in this one. It's exactly this that is so alluring.
You made me remember how cried while listening to this song, and that was years ago! I think in highschool and now I've got a job. I thought I was ok but seeing you watching this and how you felt, man, it just carved a smile on my face while my eyes were tearing up. I really appreciate your reaction to this man, you went deep. How my chem became my...damn, Gerard and all the guys really did, at one point, saved me.
Awesome reaction!! Would love to see you do Famous Last Words, Helena, The Ghost of You... they have so many incredible songs that I'd recommend checking out, but the videos for those three I mentioned should be top of the list if you're going to continue doing reactions to their stuff! If you're interested in some live stuff, their performance of 'Mama' in Mexico from the Black Parade is Dead is so damn great.
People like you are the reason why I love watching reactions. Seeing you love it and being excited about it is awesome!! You seem so charming and positive, will definitely check out your other reactions!! And yeah this song is an anthem
Christ I can feel the eye liner of angsty school days past claw itself back onto my wretched eyelids at the drop of that accursed G note...shit still itches......and I love it
MCR Hates to be called this but they are known to have started the "Emo" Movement or genre. However, they'd like to be known more as Punk Rock and more along those types of lines personally themselves. I used to actually know Gerard so yeah. BTW you seriously need to pay more attention to the lyrics of music than the video if you cannot do both at the same time.
I love My Chemical Romance, love Gerard Way’s vocals!! They have some influences by Queen (hence, Queen’s March of the Black Queen) In fact, there is a live performance of MCR featuring Brian May doing WE WILL ROCK YOU!! Anyway, love this song, now ya gotta do I’M NOT OKAY .. HELENA.. LAST FAMOUS WORDS ..
You are only the second person who had reacted to WTTBP that had noticed the sign! It hit me so hard when I saw it for the first time. So enjoyed your reaction to this anthem!
@SephPlays I thought the same, but anytime I point it out, people are genuinely surprised by it. That statement alone within the video makes it brilliant in my opinion. I hate most miss the message.
That whole “starved to death” thing isn’t really about food… Which is even sadder if you think about it. But the fact that you got the tears at the end, I think you got it. Great reaction Subscribed
I remember I was still using the printed newspaper when I saw the news about the new album. I remember I saw a photo of them uniformed with their new look and I was very excited. I can't describe what I felt when I saw the video for the first time. It was a sensation that I wanted to feel again. I love MCR.
If you were wondering the story behind the video is the patient who died had a whole album with of reflection and back and forth with the leader of the black parade and this song is basically him accepting the patient to join him and accept his arrival
Just finished the vid......I know Right. My daughter(born1999) introduced this and a couple other bands 2011 ish and our local hockey team had this as the team intro song as the players entered the is with pics of them from 5 to current. I love it.
Watch their mv Famous last words. Gerard really belts it out. And you are one of the very few reactors that actually saw the sign, and read what it said.
@@SephPlays I love being able to witness people hearing some of their favorite songs for the first time. Glad to hear you’re still loving it! I saw them twice last fall and hearing this song live was life-changing!
Glad you loved it, but I have to ask: What is the music you used for the background when you're talking at the start and the end of the video? I've heard it before but I don't know where and it's driving me nuts!
Awesome reaction, Seph - I love me some MCR! I have even been known to sing Welcome to the Black Parade once or twice at Karaoke - seriously knackered by the time I’d finished though! I tell ya, that song is a commitment!😅😅
Thank you for posting the lyrics. This is hard because my dad passed away two months ago. The lyrics are about a son but I was his only daughter. I have three brothers. It’s still really hard. A lot of the lyrics resonate with how I feel never knowing that when I saw this video a year ago I would be watching this now and would help a little. One of my brothers sent my two other brothers the video James Blunts’s (Monsters) and both to me. We aren’t close and never have been that’s probably why. My dad and I were really close.
Since i reacted to this here on the channel i have listened to it every day atleast once! In my opinion its one of the best songs ever written. Maybe in the top 200 for me. Scary good stuff! 🌟
Listen to the opening to this song and then the opening to Avril Lavigne keep holding on compare then and the chorus to each song…yea Avril or her writers definitely were inspired my mcr lok

they have so many incredible songs that I'd recommend checking out, but the videos for those three I mentioned should be top of the list if you're going to continue doing reactions to their stuff!
If you're interested in some live stuff, their performance of 'Mama' in Mexico from the Black Parade is Dead is so damn great.
Thank you for being an actual human being. You are awesome! Liked, subbed and all that jazz.
Love this reaction. More My Chemical Romance, Ghost of You next please or I Dont Love You
You should listen to the entire album from start to finish. It's banger after banger.
People like you are the reason why I love watching reactions. Seeing you love it and being excited about it is awesome!! You seem so charming and positive, will definitely check out your other reactions!! And yeah this song is an anthem
Christ I can feel the eye liner of angsty school days past claw itself back onto my wretched eyelids at the drop of that accursed G note...shit still itches......and I love it
Haha
Disfrutaste de todo el viaje gracias a MCR!!!
MCR the best band ever, Gérard Way total genius ! 💕💕💕
It’s an epic
MCR Hates to be called this but they are known to have started the "Emo" Movement or genre. However, they'd like to be known more as Punk Rock and more along those types of lines personally themselves. I used to actually know Gerard so yeah. BTW you seriously need to pay more attention to the lyrics of music than the video if you cannot do both at the same time.
"Its still getting me." Every time man. Every damn time.
It's a little hard to miss to be honest 👀
@SephPlays I thought the same, but anytime I point it out, people are genuinely surprised by it. That statement alone within the video makes it brilliant in my opinion. I hate most miss the message.
That whole “starved to death” thing isn’t really about food…
Which is even sadder if you think about it.
But the fact that you got the tears at the end, I think you got it.
Great reaction

Art, music, message and emotions, all together.
I remember I was still using the printed newspaper when I saw the news about the new album. I remember I saw a photo of them uniformed with their new look and I was very excited. I can't describe what I felt when I saw the video for the first time. It was a sensation that I wanted to feel again. I love MCR.
The change in the music is where the guy actually dies and joins the black parade, which is the parade of the dead.
Ah the memories. I dyed my hair black and wore tight skinny jeans and listened to this album on repeat back in the 2000’s lmao
Bro your good art this you deserve way more subs carry on!
The power of Music!!
This is one if the very rare songs that bring me out in tears! Stunning song!
If you were wondering the story behind the video is the patient who died had a whole album with of reflection and back and forth with the leader of the black parade and this song is basically him accepting the patient to join him and accept his arrival
I’m digging that Liberace piano behind you 👍🏽
the best reaction for this song!!❤
If you haven't heard the isolated vocals on this song, you should. It's a whole other experience
Great reaction
Great song!!
Do more of there reaction 😊
Just finished the vid......I know Right. My daughter(born1999) introduced this and a couple other bands 2011 ish and our local hockey team had this as the team intro song as the players entered the is with pics of them from 5 to current. I love it.
Watch their mv Famous last words. Gerard really belts it out. And you are one of the very few reactors that actually saw the sign, and read what it said.
reacts to famous last words, is amazing🔥
Dude your reaction was awesome! Your passion is infectious. Can’t wait to dig into your other videos!
This song will forever be burnt into my very soul! I listen to it nearly daily now 😍
@@SephPlays I love being able to witness people hearing some of their favorite songs for the first time. Glad to hear you’re still loving it! I saw them twice last fall and hearing this song live was life-changing!
Im gonna have to check out a live version of this actually!
Thankyou so much❤
Great video ❤ The song and video is amazing 💗💗
This song came out in my early 20s and my father had passed away 5 years prior and dammit did it start some waterworks.
Glad you loved it, but I have to ask: What is the music you used for the background when you're talking at the start and the end of the video? I've heard it before but I don't know where and it's driving me nuts!
Thats donkey Kong haha
The one constant through all the reactions I've watched have been "Turn it up," which means it's working 😉
react to «the ghost of you» by them next!!!
What that Donkey Kong Country water level music I heard at the beginning of this video?
You have a good ear! Haha
The Emo Bohemian Rhapsody. The Britpop Bohemian Rhapsody is Common People by Pulp. The Heavy Metal one is Phantom Of The Opera by Iron Maiden.
Hunny you're adorable.
Instant like because of MCR.
Keep it up.
😁
u like me whn th frst time i heard it
I just watched a British lad turn Emo and conservative all in between the Chorus and the bridge 😂🇺🇸🫡
This is a masterpiece
Donkey Kong Country music before and after the react? And then your reaction to the song.
You've got good taste, mate.
Mostly hard rock but albums have implementations of numerous styles: party punk, electronic rock, even country rock
No, this is the emo genre.
