I worked in the warehouse for a year pulling roughs and trims for the installers and I'm moving into the field soon to do this, great video man!
Good luck!
I am 18 working with my father at his company as I have just graduated HS. I did residential every summer since I was 15 but forgot mostly everything, hoping I get this down because it’s the only work I actually don’t mind doing.
These day in a life videos are hard to come by…much appreciated
Thanks for watching👍
Great Job!!
Nice job! How many man hours did it take you to do the rough in?
Me and my guys at work get a rough in done in 5 to 8 hours depending on how big the house is AIR AID Casa Grande AZ
Whats the fastest method of doing a roughin
@@jeanshortz_3857I work my my dad and cousin, my dad is very experienced and fast well my cousin is just getting there, I am still learning.
If the house is a 2 story we will usually start off with stack heads, get them all set up and finish the bathroom fans by running the insulated flex and cutting the holes to poke them out of the house, we usually run a bit of pipe if we have all the material needed such as 4-6” elbows and end boots after cutting all of the holes. We then run all of the wires needed for bathroom timers and controls. Usually this will take 3-4 hours.
Was this a design layout or you designed yourself?
We not allowed to run .long runs of flex like that ..why didn't they run more duct board
What city and state are you in?
I got called dumb for asking why we don't do mixing boxes on the floor this looks wayyy easier then standing on the top of a ladder taping it while it's in the rafters
Lol, yea thats how people act until they try it and realize its alot faster and easier. Its also a good way to test all your connections since u do need to pull on the flex to get the mixing box up.
I mean it’s a preference thing. Been doing this for years and own a company I’ve done it all the ways you can think of.
Laying every can and mixing box out, hanging them and cutting all flex to fit individually. That comes out the absolute cleanest, but is also hardest on the body, the most up and down, and takes longest.
Or pre-assembling mixing boxes in the floor just like he did in the video, which is for sure fast. Not as clean and the other way but easier on body.
The best way for me/us is we make up all the cans and mixing boxes per plan. Get mixers set. By then someone had unbagged all the flex and stretched it.
Then at our fab table we pre-fab every can by stabbing on the flex at the table. Make up the whole entire house that way. Usually let whoever is fabbing get ahead a little, and someone is throwing those cans in place with the flex tails on them, running them out toward mixing box or plenum. Basically almost same thing he’s doing but attaching to the cans instead of the mixing box first. In think it comes out cleaner that way.
But I can tell you the time you spend pre-fabbing is made up in spades on the back end - it’s so much faster.
Trust me since i seen this video ive been telling rough guys to do it like this or try it..then they complain why they gotta splice 14-18inch flex up in the attic, or rip out the plank to move to compensate for being 2ft short
@@Floridaman8783 the last way is how I do it and Ive tried the other ways as well. My process is a tad different. I lay out the boxes and the boots (cans as u say) where they will be hung at. I cut in all tabs on the boxes. Hang them up and then connect the flex to the boots. I Size my flex by stretching it while connected at the boot to the area the box is. Always leavening a litte extra. I then hang the boot with the flex connect and sized. I then run the flex from the attic from the boot to the mixing box strapping every 2-4 feet then connect cut down any excess and connect at the box. I do feel this is way works best to achieve quality and get it done quickly.
@@BigLosKickz this is the way my trainer showed me and it is a very smooth process, i vouch for its speed
Great work!
You guys don't use mastic down south?
Yes we use the mastic in the inside of the vinyl sleeve before we attach to collar, and we only use it on the outside over the tape when the builders or homeowners pay for the extra labor/material.
Those white box boot rails are a pain in the a** way different than brown box royal rails
Whats the name of that tool he is using to strap that mixing box ?i would like to get one ?
DEWALT Carbon Fiber Composite Hammer Tacker, I believe thats the tool ur talking about, you can get it at home depot.
