    This review makes no sense. If you want a fast car get the maxima or the altima. This car is based on a first time driver or a person who just wants to save money on gas. And why would you compare it to a Audi R8?

      Correct, I don’t know why this guy is down talking on this nice car. I have one & I absolutely love mine.

    I bought this car for wife to take kids to school and cheer practice and what not, and I drive it too with the family and I gotta tell you it's a very smooth ride. The sport mode is pretty cool, granted it does suck to go from 0-60 fast but the thing is that you have to know how to drive this car. If you slam on the throttle it's slow so what you have to do is step on it and has it going release the gas pedal a little bit then step on it again it changes gears and picks up faster. We drove it to San Diego from San Francisco and I spent $125 to go and come back and I was stepping on it too. But I did put it on cruise control most of the way. Besides that I think it's a really good car for a small family or a single person. I think if you want a fast car you should look at the 370z just saying

    The Fast Lane Car should be doing reviews on performance cars only. whenever they review an economy car, all they do is bitching about the CVT and the lack of power.

    I drove an '08 Maxima for 4 years and 90k miles and floored it maybe 5 times. It had 255hp. I just bought a '13 Sentra and it is not as weak as reviews would have you believe. Never once had trouble making freeway speeds. Never have I felt scared to merge or pass. It's a 4 banger, that's it. I live at 4,400ft. altitude.

    There is absolutely a difference between economy, normal and sport. you just have to live with it for a while. Also, if you are used to driving newer cars, this may not impress you, but if you came from a 10 year old or older vehicle, this Sentra does feel sporty and more refined. Just test drive one.

    IMO,this is Excellent good family car, massive space, very fuel efficient even for a heavy footed, very cheap to maintain, good safety features, very smooth engine and the ride is comfort but not too soft. If sportier feel you are looking for, mazda 3 and civic much better bet.

  • @rottenrowdie

    You said there is no difference between the economy mode and the sport mode. You need to stay away from the Colorado weed shops because the difference is huge.

    Love this. Bought it used at $12,000, and it's a hell of a good value. Performance was a want when looking, but this does fit the bill adequately. The sport button makes it jump much quicker and 0-40 time is great, haven't used it above 55 mph though so cannot say for anything else. Otherwise everything is near perfect on this. Slap some more power into it and bring it up to par with an Audi A4 in terms of luxury, features, etc. and you've got a solid car.

    I own one of these, I can honestly say, I drive it in sports mode all the time! You can definitely tell the difference between normal driving and when it’s in sports mode. I’m always running late. I can put it into sports mode and make it to work in 20 mins, I live outside of the city

    Being at 5000 ft. must make a huge difference, because at sea level, PEI, Canada, the 5 year old 2013 Sentra S, with 65000 km (40300 miles) gets up to 100 Kmh (62 MPH) at 2500 RPM, in no time. Since I didn't buy a sport car, I didn't floor the gas pedal, I was just accelerating in traffic, and when I looked down at the gauges I was going 100 in a 90 zone with no effort. Plus it is soooo easy on gas, that's what excites me, and puts a smile on my face!

  • @TFLcar
    @TFLcar  11 років тому

    Open and airy cabin. The seat feel as if you are sitting atop the car instead of inside the car. Body roll is well dampened for a commuter, the Sentra can get a bit squirmy at highway speeds when hit by crosswinds of truck traffic.

  • @TFLcar
    @TFLcar  11 років тому +1

    We're just guessing here but the Sentra was redesigned after the Altima. Perhaps Nissan product cycle didn't include LEDs on the Altima when it was redesigned but the cost come down enough to have them included on the Sentra.

    The ride is fantastic, Dallas to Colorado Springs with no complaints. As far as pricing/options, the SL is loaded at $22k. REAL leather heated seats (I prefer black), navigation, optional Bose audio, rear disc brakes, 17" split spoke wheels. The base model is what it is, for $15,990, which I think is a great deal. You can also get a 6-speed manual with the base model. The SR has sporty body upgrades. On most of the models, you can also get the +FE option which supposedly gives you +1 MPG.

    CVT are the pits i'm so glad most cars are manual gearbox here in the Uk. I had the misfortune of driving a Honda with CVT. The only auto box i would consider is a dual clutch or 6 speed. I will stick to manual gearbox for my next car. Keep up the good work guys loving the Jeep stuff you did a couple of weeks back.

    Hey Roman, I've owned the 2013 Sentra for about 4 months and you won't notice the difference between ECO, Normal, and Sport modes when stepping on the gas. You notice it when you're in normal driving circumstances or from a stop. The RPM's are easier to get to when in the higher modes, but if you step on the gas, it will go up to 5800-6000 from any mode.

    The pedal is designed to have a certain amount of friction or hysteresis built in. This is done so that the fatigue of pressing the pedal continually is not onerous or becomes fatiguing. It also replicates the friction that would normally be present in a conventional throttle cable as it passes through its housing. A throttle assembly without the correct amount of friction or hysteresis would be very difficult to control smoothly.

    The infotainment system/navigation is great and easy to use. I've connected my phone once and never had issues with it connecting every time I get in the car. The only problem I've found with the radio is that there is no way to adjust the midrange. The center console is a bit awkward so those cupholders are strange but work, and there are cupholders in every door down by your calf. The back seat is big enough to fit two full-sized baby seats as well as a small adult in the middle. cont...

    Agreed. A lot of people seem to overlook Mazda being that they're a smaller company but I really like their cars. They look good and they perform. Plus you get a lot of car for your money. The new 6 is sexy!! I can't get over how nicely styled that car is, I would definitely consider it if I were in the market for a mid-size. The 3 is due for a redesign next year I think so I'll be looking forward to that!

    Nice to get a review where whining about a CVT doesn't totally trash the whole car. I don't understand these 'enthusiasts' who complain about CVTs. They're going to complain about anything that isn't a 50/50 weight rear-drive 300+hp manual...you get my point. For the rest of us, we'll stick with dual clutches, automatics, CVTs...

    compared to my 2000 civic which had the acceleration of a fucking golf cart, I would say the 2013 sentra is pretty fast. Its definitely not as slow as this guy will have you believe. If you put it in sport mode it accelerates pretty quick from 0-45. Its no sports car, but when youre accelerating from light to light in this car, most of the traffic will be in your rearview mirror, just from lightly pressing the gas. Plus with the SL i get leather, push to start, rearview cam, touchscreen radio. What more do you want from a car at that price?

    I dont get this video. why is he comparing the sentra to an Audi R8 or even a civic SI. the SI is not really comparable since it is build to be a sportier and faster version of the civic.
    the man harps on for 4 minutes about the power (or lack there of) then talks for 30 seconds about the inside of the car. then back to the lack of power. NO ONE IS LOOKING AT THE SENTRA FOR POWER. but more than half the video is a complaint about power.
    how about telling us more about what comes standard in the car or can be upgraded in the other models?

    Hey bigd78881. You seem to know a lot about 2013 Nissan Sentra. I am debating whether to get that or 2013 Mazda 3 or 2013 Hyundai Elantra. What I am looking for is good fuel economy and decent value. It seems like everyone says the power on the engine is pretty weak?

  • @diamond_movado
    @diamond_movado 11 років тому

    I'd definitely pick the 2013 Sentra. If you want a car that is refined inside and out, gets extremely well mpg city and highway, and has the best value for the money in its class, pick the Sentra. It also has the most room in the front seat and back for people to sit in. You can get the top trim (SL) have Leather, Bose audio, Sunroof, 4 disc brakes, etc... for only around $23,000.

  • @94navin
    @94navin 11 років тому

    The 2014 Mazda 3 is the class leader in this segment.Getting 40 mpg with a 2.5 making 184 hp. It also is the fastest,drives the best and has a very nice interior with a HUD. The 2013 even out sold the corolla in august and is 2nd place now. This 2014 will dominate sales.

  • @strikerm70

  • @mhtube01
    @mhtube01 11 років тому

    I also compared that Sentra SR to the new Altima 2.5 SL model and I like the Altima much better. The extra 52 hp is immediately noticeable and the CVT has simulated gears if you move the gear shit over to shift it manually which is cool. Plus fuel economy is just short of the Sentra and for just a few extra bucks, you get quite a bit more, including an optional V6.

  • @brooksycc7
    @brooksycc7 11 років тому

    As far as the pricing, you're a bit off. The base model for the Accord Sport is $21,680. The base price for the Sentra (which you can get with a 6-speed manual) is $15,990. The model shown here is the SL. It comes with all the interior bonuses and a couple other things: *real* leather, navigation, wood trim, rear disc brakes, 17" rims, etc. I own the SL and I can say that it's worth the money and the base model would definitely be worth the $15,990.

    Thanks bigd78881 for the information. I have decided to get a Sentra. But I am deciding whether to get the base model S or SV. Do you think the USB, 4.3" monitor, and premium clothing seats are worth the additional ~$1,000? Can I stream music through the USB connection?

  • @mhtube01
    @mhtube01 11 років тому

    Good review Roman! I drove an SR and I think they improved the CVT as well but my family has a 2010 Sentra SR and you can really feel the decrease in power on the new one. Having said that, I do like the styling and interior a lot better on the 2013. My Dodge Dart Rallye Turbo would just blow the doors off of this car though and it gets the same highway fuel economy with a lot more power which is interesting. Mine is the manual and the city MPG isn't quite as good as this but I don't care.

  • @gjforeman

    Yeah, our 2013 Sentra seemed wonderful. 91000 miles and two CVT transmissions later, with a THIRD CVT now required, I wish I never heard of this POC vehicle. Gladly dumped it for a nearly new Toyota. If someone offers you a great deal on one of these, RUN. RUN AWAY!

    Trust me, I've driven a 2007 Sentra CVT with the 2 liter and its actually quite fun to drive if you know how to ride the ratios...not to mention getting 40mpg in town :o. The new Sentra has the same CVT, Nissan't new XTRONIC is for 2.5L engines and larger

  • @diamond_movado
    @diamond_movado 11 років тому

    CVT is a transmission that gives you an infinite amount of gear ratio so the car knows which gear to be in depending on how fast you're going. Its not the best sounding transmission but it saves more gas in its class not to mention how much more Nissan cars are refined and reliability is prestigious at Nissan vs other brands.

  • @LegereBen
    @LegereBen 9 років тому

    Just a thought... If you're doing tests on family cars could you see if 3 people can actually fit and if there is enough room for 2 car seats and one person in the back. I ended up just getting an Altima for the extra room but it would have been nice to know if 3 people could fit in the back seat.

    Man, tough crowd today... My parents taught me something when I was young and I use it to this day. It went like this. "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all". Of course there's a time, place and a way to say things. I very seldom see them used correctly on UA-cam.

    But I do have hands on experience. My uncle used to be a technician for Mazda and Honda and then he moved to Cali so now he works for Nissan. I used to go to the dealer in the huge hangar garage and helped him with some of the vehicles. At one point I was going to pursue that career but am pursuing something else because it doesn't pay enough. Just because you've worked on a few Mazda's and Nissan's dont mean shit. How many times do I have to explain this to you?

    Yes I have seen the 2014 Mazda 3 and hatchback as well as the 6. What I do like is they extended the wheel base and actually have made it nicer but its still not as nice as Nissan. The only vehicle I like from Mazda is the new cx-5, its very practical but nice along with its features VS. price. Sky-active technology which makes excellent mpg is the only thing pretty much what Mazda has going for them. Although MPG is only 1 of many area's of what overall matters in a car.

    I had to buy this car because my 05 Volvo S-40 T5 was ridiculously unreliable. The Sentra honestly isn't awful. It drives better than the Corolla and its at least got a smooth and somewhat tight steering. And at sea level its not that slow as long as you're not starting from a standstill or an incline. And lets not forget that for a high mpg car it's not as slow as it could be. It's a fair if not even competitor in my opinion to a Civic or Corolla, and its better than the Elantra, Cruze, and perhaps a normal Fiesta. I also must add its fit and finish is very high quality for a car in this price range. I think its pretty good value.

    One of my good friend came in and his beloved 2011 nissan altima had had a noise when going in pot holes so i put the car on the jack stands (i was home not at work)and a part was shaking so i fixed it. It's because nissan likes to put studs instead of bolts and nuts. So you have to drill that out and put a nut and bolt when it breaks. Then i saw he's exhaust and frame rusting so i sanded,sprayed it with some rust oleum with about 3 thick coats with clear coat and it peeled off in a few months.

    Sport mode also imitates a down shift to a lower gear when hard braking to generate engine braking. Doing 60mph and stomp the brakes (or at any speed) and the computer adjusts the CVT and blips the throttle a bit to jump the engine up 1k rpm to help slow down. Eco mode prevents rapid acceleration and isn't recemded on hills or with a lot of cargo. If u accelerate normally and hit sco mode u will notice the rpm drops a little bit staying more in the efficient range

  • @94navin
    @94navin 11 років тому

    Altima is faster than the maxima right?Nissan quality is going down correct. I told you if you look up this on UA-cam or Google "car reliability ranking form consumer reports" you will see.

    Ford Focus base model:
    6-speed Automatic: 27 city/38 hwy/31 combined mpg; Powershift 6-speed
    I used the automatic because it advertises the best MPG. With no other options, it costs $700 when compared to the base Sentra with CVT and no options. Also, the comparable TFLcar 0-60 times: (11.97 for Focus and 12.98 for Sentra). Then you think about resale value, and the Sentra definitely takes it.

  • @diamond_movado

    This problem would not be the cause of “unintended acceleration” to the extent that the pedal would only stay open as much as it was before being released, although it could well be experienced as such. If the car was being accelerated briskly as on an on-ramp or hill, and the pedal stuck in that degree of openness, the car could well feel like it was accelerating on its own after the target speed was attained and the foot pressure reduced.

  • @94navin
    @94navin 11 років тому

    What are you staying it doesn't make sense? The problem was because of unintended acceleration. It didn't get stuck in the last position the matt held it down and the car didnt have brake override back then.So toyota made it shorter.

    No i said if a car that wasn't old that looks banged up and it came into a truck because it broke down and all it need was a good old tune up was obviously abused.A compression test only test the rings and valves. Just because you're always on the gas doesn't mean your compression is going to be low.If they cars are overheated you would tell because it came in on a truck bed and probably blew a head gasket.Which i could tell when i opened it up.

    It's definitely more competitive with the new skyactive engine. When the next generation comes out, it might be a worthy replacement for my Nissan.

    I know the Skyactive is already out. But it's in a car that doesn't appeal to me. That's why I said maybe when the better looking redesign comes out I'll be more interested.

    Every review I've seen says the steering is numb and the ride is rough. I have driven the mazda 6 at a car show and it wasn't as nice as the Altima. Altima has active understeer and many other technology to keep a balance of over/understeer in all of their vehicles except the versa. Most of Nissan's cars has more technology to establish a comfortable ride that can be somewhat sporty when you want to. Nissan's steering was best in its class. The CVT is not in many peoples favor of

    I had a similar problem to that chrome trim issue on a Camry. The newest one puts the door cup holder where it hits my calf anytime I rest my foot on the dead pedal. After 4 hours in it I literally had a bruise on my calf from bumping into that thing so much.

    The 2.0 Liter 4 banger engine with the Altima CVT with a max ratio of 8.0 would have similar fuel economy numbers with more power than the 1.8 Liter 4 banger with the CVT max ratio of 7.3.

    Yes I know about the rust on the old pathfinders. We are talking about new cars here, and no I dont see the new nissans coming into the shop all the time. Maybe if people knew how to take care of their cars it wouldnt break down.

    This guys review was 90% talking bad about the power so I'll add on to what actual reviews he did say about this car.
    I have driven cars of all shapes and sizes and I like the Sentra. It's fast when you NEED it to be like on the freeway. I actually found it easier to pass cars on the freeway with the sentra compared to my v6 stang and good on gas and extremely roomy even though it doesn't look it. It's like a car tardis haha. He steering is electric so it does feel a bit strange at first kinda like those arcade racing games and the accelerator is a slight bit laggy. The sport eco and regular mode are extremely different but you have to drive it for more than half an hour to notice the difference.
    All in all the only REAL complaint I have is with the bottom portion of the driver seat. It is short length wise and for someone at my height (6'2") compared to the buckets in my 03 mustang anyway which was my previous car so to me and probably most "all legs" guys it lacks some hip support but honestly it's a commuter car. If you need the mpg and interior room like I did with a massive trunk then this is all you'll need right here.

    what is the best?

  • @94navin
    @94navin 11 років тому

    well you have a good point many people do abuse their cars and only come into the shop when they have broken down...a few times. But you can tell what is a manufacture defect and when it is abused. Obviously if something happen to every car coming in it's the manufacture fault. Uncommon problems are usually owner faults. But problems with rust,the tensioner problems and radiator is nissan fault. There are a bunch more.

    The comment about nissan making the best CVTs aged like milk. Thus vehicle's claim to fame is having a terrible transmission.
    I own a 2013 SV and had the transmission replaced once already and will probably replace it again since that would be cheaper than buying someone else's money pit for 5K with the current car market and interest rates.
    Other than the OEM transmission being replaced, this car has been reliable. The only time it didn't start up was when I needed a new battery. After the new batt, it continues to be reliable.
    If this vehicle eventually gets an aftermarket transmission available, it would be a chef's kiss.
    Even 11 years later, the seats are still comfortable, I only replaced the headlight bulbs twice (once bc they blew out and the other was an upgrade to LEDs but the bulbs were still good), upgrading the radio was easy even without a proper wiring harness, There is no alert to change oil so you either have to keep track of miles or pay attention to the MPGs (if MPGs drop below 36 highway, you probably need oil or have a lead foot).
    This is a great car to have as long as you don't mind getting a new transmission once in a while.
    On a long trip consisting of almost all highway, I was able to get 48 MPG with the AC on.
    Speaking of AC, it still blows cold air. I've never had the AC recharged and it's still doing a good job all this time later!
    If you plan to get one of these, it will be cheap to purchase but a pain in the wallet to keep (bc of the TM being poorly designed).
    I recommend getting ahold of a service manual for the B17 Sentra. Changing the rear speakers is such a pain without the proper knowledge. I can only imagine what else is designed like that on this car.

    I'd say, spend 4K more and get an Accord Sport or Mazda 6. You lose 2-4 MPG, but a much more 'usable' car. What you guys and gals think? This Sentra is really a OK commuter and that's about it.

  • @diamond_movado

    The Mazda 3 is probably the Sentra's competitor (driving dynamics) It's more of a sport driving feel with less comfort which loses refinement not to mention it doesn't look as nice inside or out as the Sentra or Elantra. It's less refined than Sentra and Elantra. You'd also spend at least $ 24,000 to 25,000 to match the packages to the Sentra which is too expensive. As far as mpg, its the closest to the Sentra. Mazda 3 would be my second pick.

    Hmm...as far as the competition goes. I don't think this segment needs power, they're economy cars. So to say Nissan is just doing what the market want. It's hard to beat 34mpg combine when you drive a high power car. It's easy to make a car go fast, but making it efficient is another story.

    it not ugly to everyone and it might have a cheap interior now but when the 2015 mazda 3 come out it will have a upscale interior no smiling front,lighter, better fuel economy and power.But look at the sentra. The cars bigger, it has a smaller engine,still cant get 40 mpg and it has a CVT. Which the mazda has 40mpg w/155hp.The mazda is the all around better car it faster,handles way better and is more fuel efficient

    ouch, i thought my fiesta was slow. its has a 1.4 and still has a better 0-60. You guys are right about that grill. looks good on the altima, but not the sentra. that should have done what hyundai did when they rolled out the sonata and the elantra, facial-wise .

    You don't know where people have driven those cars though. You're assuming they drive their cars in that area only. How do you know they didn't drive through Colorado or Yosemite on vacation or a trip where there's a lot of humidity? Theres too many factors for you to assume that a manufacturer builds a car that rusts when people put their cars through abuse. Some cars can take it and some are more high maintenance. That doesn't make the car bad at all, it makes it more costly.

    I'm well aware of the Mazda 3's capability with the skyactive but that figure 28/40 was achieve on a sedan and no offense but I'm no fan of the sedan. The hatch however..... There's the speed3. As much as I like mpg I also don't mind joining the 13 second club.

    Its ok sometime we read or understand something different at the time it happens to everyone.The 148 hp may have been the previous engine but all skyactiv models have a 2.0 155hp/150 torque and the redesigned mazda3 may come with optional 2.5 making 189hp!.This channel did a review you can look it up.On consumer reports and many other site Mazda is right behind Toyota,Lexus and scion. On some sites it beats Toyota but Lexus is still ahead of it.And yes i know Toyota makes Lexus and scion.

    Right now consumers are having problems with 2013 Ford Escape, and 2013 Chevy Avalanche rusting. There are a lot of cars that suffer rusting and many other problems but that doesn't make them bad cars. Shows how much you know about which cars are rusting the most right now. Its not Toyota or Nissan. Its Ford, also they pulled over 400,000 sedans for steering loss due to a defect from Ford. Ya that's sad.
