Scotty Kilmer Scotty I got a question Is pro demand worth investing or is your app comparable to that software? And if so what software do you recommend for a up start mechanic?
That would be used for all around vehicle including commercial diesel vehicles
do you have any video about control arm bushings? Nissan recommended that I change my control arm bushing, which they say requires the whole control arm to be replaced - on both sides - and they want to charge nearly $1,000 although I have no issue with it. The recommendation is based on mileage. What do you think? 2008 Nissan Versa - 138k miles - Even worse, my transmission went out and I had a remanufactured one put in this week.... idk why. I just did it.
I have that car. A 2008 Nissan versa 4 speed auto. 151000 miles. No problems 😊
What is the best vehicle for car camping, RAV? Need room to sleep and store food and clothes; a generator like the Prius for climate control, and great gas mileage to travel the country. The Prius Wagon is at the top of my list. What do you think??
As a courier I put 60,000 miles a year on my vehicles
The first Versa I owned I bought with 60,000 miles lasted me over 380,000.
On my second Versa which I bought with 80,000 miles I'm now
at 225,000. No major repairs just regular maintenance
what year was the first one, and the one you have now? manual or auto?
Walter Bandeira
Model years please?
Gib updatez
Which years bro?!?!
Walter--True! The Nissan Versa is an excellent car..Great value

@@laserbeam3836 I bet you drive reasonably, do maintenance and overall treat the car right. People can be ridiculously hard on their cars. I have a 2010 Cube with 111,000 miles on it CVT is smooth as silk and the engine purrs like a kitten, But, I treat it gently.
Fedproman my 2010 Nissan Cube transmission was smooth as silk at 99,000 miles. No sign of slowing down. Transmission went one day last month with no warning. Was still smooth after it went, just wouldn’t move. Was still under warranty at least
Next video : Better Buy a '94 Celica Before They are All Gone.
We have a 2008 Versa SL CVT with nearly 190,000 miles on it, still going strong. It has probably been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned, and fun to drive (great acceleration and MPG). The CVT has been fine because I keep the fluid very clean. I have also made sure to do all the factory maintenance per their intervals. The top failing part has been the fuel pump, which is easy to change. After we started to keep the gas in the tank over 1/4 minimum, the pump has lasted somewhat better.
You said someone bought it for $2500? and it's a 2012 model, it's a great deal!
We had one. It was poorly made. Rattled all the time, despite having 40k miles. It was huge inside though, the trunk space was gigantic too. The engine was well made though. Never had an issue.
Its ok guys suckers like this is why we flip cars;]
its a nissan,, And they start at $10,000
@John Fedor It's a simple car without fancy tech. Timing chain, 4 speed auto, no nav or cameras. It should last a good while longer if taken care of. 2500 is a decent price for newer-ish car that looks pretty clean, plus I'd assume it's a southern car, so not much rust or corrosion. I would not buy one of these new, but in a pinch this can be a good car for someone with a tight budget.
Just Some Guy without a Mustache no it’s not especially considering it has 111,000 miles on it and those transmissions tend to grenade themselves. This car car could be near the end of its life.
Edit…didn’t I realized it had a 4 speed auto, it’ll last longer than the horrible CVT powered ones.
I’ve had my Versa for about 4 years now and it’s been a TANK. It’s nearly at 200k miles and still running strong... the worst issue I’ve had with it was just a misfire on the 1st cylinder a few weeks ago.. besides that’s it’s been perfectly fine. With regular oil changes and normal check ups and maintenance this little car will go for years and years! I recommend it as an owner 🙏🏼
I bought my civic brand new in 07 and it’s finally starting to go. I got my eye on a 2022 SV Versa that I’m about to pull the trigger on
I had mine for 7 years now about to hit 150,000 miles. I kept up with the maintenance & havent had any problems with it.
@@raydawg2132 I got the 2021 SV in January, absolutely love it so far!
Thank ya sir...as I'm in the process of buying a 2014 versa manual transmission...better
2017 SV sedan and other than a glass steering rack, it's not THE WORST car, and it's snappy when it needs to be.
Good video Scotty. I bought my first Versa Hatchback a few years ago, a 2007 for $1,800. I replaced spark plugs, coils, variable valve solenoid, MAS airflow sensor, all motor & Tranny mounts, (4 speed Jatco A/T), rear shocks, all 4 wheels, rotors, drums, brake pads & shoes. Drove the 2007 for over 2 years with no other problems. I sold the 2007 Versa last week for $3,000 with 186,000 miles, & bought a 2011 Silver Metal Flake Versa Hatchback this time with 50,000 original miles on it & in "showroom" condition, 6 speed manual transmission, for me it is a new condition car! The best part of my story is I only paid $5,000 for the 2011 Versa Hatchback! I feel that that was a pretty good upgrade for $2,000. I'm a retired Machinist, not rich but Happy!
I am second owner of a 2007 Versa Hatchback. 161,000 miles. Engine works fine. I'm 6'3" and fit fine. Air conditioning is my only complaint. Its barely acceptable in winter and lacking in Houston summers. Thanks Scotty.
I love my Versa hatchback! Mine is a 2011 with 150k+ miles on it! Still runs really well. I’ve driven across the country in my Versa several times. I’ve owned the car for almost seven years and couldn’t be happier. Biggest expense I’ve had so far was the exhaust pipe popped off the muffler when I hit a pot hole. So car was loud for a few days. Got that fixed now purrs like a kitten again. 😎
Same here. 10.5 years and going strong
Cross country miles are easy miles.
I have a 2016 Versa note with 5 speed manual trans, bought it used at 68000km, works pretty well. I kinda wish it has 6th gear, because I really don't like that I have to rev over 3000rpm at 100km/hr
Must not have the cvt

This was my first car. This thing can take a beating like you wouldn't believe. A great little road warrior.
Agreed! I beat the hell out of mine and it still goes
😂😂😂
That first gen Versa was decent cheap transportation. Nissan could have saved their reputation over the years if they'd only stuck to traditional automatics. They'd probably still be #2 behind Toyota if they had.
What’s wrong with CVT’s if you don’t mind me asking
J M S Nissans are just notoriously unreliable

Underhood looks alot like my 2011 Nissan Cube. I have changed the CVT fluid every 30 thousand miles, and changed the oil every 3750 miles with top grade synthetic oil, and at 145,000 miles it has been almost problemless.(MAF sensor only repair) and runs and looks great. Going for 300k(fingers crossed)
Is changing the cvt fluid the key to keeping these transmission going? I know people that have had to replaces transmissions on Rogues
My Cube now has 234k miles. Original transmission. I think with regular maintenance you have a chance at a long lasting CVT. I think with no maintenance the chances are low. Best of luck!
yes, I would do it every 20-25k seriously its easy and cheap@@iLLustrious85
I’m driving a Nissan Sentra 2004 1.8 engine 5 speed manual with 670,000 miles and counting!!! still running 😼😼
Manu, you must live in your car. For a 5 day working week, that's 160miles per day, ie 3-4 hours every day and a fortune in fuel & maintenance costs.
My 2002 SER SpecV was junk, but the 1.8 was a good little engine.
Older Sentra's were great, if Nissan didn't merge with Renault just think about how much better they would be today.
@@neilparmar5705 I think Renault and Nissan divorced recently.
Sergio S. Huerta they did.. but they left nissan with the baggage
This car in the video is what my sister is using now for college. Bought it for her cheap and took it to Scotty to give it a little magic. Works like new and drives great! Thanks for the help Scotty Kilmer!
Great Choice. I inherited a 2011 at 50k. Now has 103k. No issues.
What happened with the spark plugs and how inaccessible they are to change?
@@jsm8149 You just gotta wiggle the intake off (couple of vacuum hoses, wiring and some bolts) then you can access the valve cover with coils and spark plugs. I have the 2008 version in Taiwan called Tiida 5D 4AT with 1.8L engine. Still with 90% original parts still running at 210,000 Kms. Good solid reliable car !
I had a 2007 Nissan Versa with 150k miles until very recently when it was totaled in January, loved that car was my first one and I miss it but I got a corolla now!
Test drove one of these one time and actually loved it. Never bought the thing though, upon researching the infamous CVT issues. Always thought the exterior styling was interesting on these things though; oddly appealing.

How often did you change the CVT fluid ?
@@GenEmperor Once

@@GenEmperor 161 miles when I bought it. It had to be driven from a dealer about 150 mile away. It now has just over 101,000 miles.
My 2017 nissan manual says only to change the cvt fluid at 60K miles...and that's ONLY if driven under "extreme" conditions ( a lot of very short trips, dusty roads, steep hills, etc).
ive felt so bad for so long about having the equivalent car here in Australia but it has been 7 years and i havent had to fix anything except tyres and im happy with it so far (nissan almera 2012 5 speed manual)
I had a 2010 one for a few years. It drove across the country, did newspaper delivery in the snow in CT, and negotiated a mountain, dirt road with lots of snow in Colorado. I also did a gig once and had to drive me and another bass player to it. We had both of our upright basses shoved in the back with the back seats down. We were still able to sit comfortably in the two front seats.

I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 192,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.

I have a 2010 Versa 204,000 miles non CVT and I love it!! No issues just routine Oil changes.
Did you use regular oil or synthetic?
@@gutadin5 Well funny thing about that is, when I would be kind of low on funds I would get the regular oil. When I would have a coupon I would get about $10 to $15 off the oil change and opt for the high mileage synthetic. Now that I've gotten my finances somewhat stable it is about $40 to $50 to have it changed I've gone to Valvoline,Penzoil, and Castrol Express lube. It's convenient for me because yes Walmart or Nissan may run a special however I've had to wait over an hour at Nissan and believe it or not over 4 hours at a walmart. The express places usually have me in and out in 15 minutes or less which I like way better.
Bought a 2009 Sentra, brand new when the family expanded and needed a 3rd car.
Best little car we ever owned. Not 1 issue.

Manual or automatic CVT?
Second owner of an 08 Versa, it has 95k miles on it and it's going strong after two years. I've decided to upgrade it with remote start and a media receiver. This thing looks like it will be going strong for a while! The only major repair in two years was to replace the radiator which was beginning to have a hairline leak. Wonderful first car I highly recommend for anyone who just needs a car to get around. It isn't the flashiest but it's reliable and at the time was cheap!
I literally bought this car a year ago for 2800 with 65000 miles great deal
Holy cow
As a 07 versa owner I recommend: simple drain & fill of the automatic transmission fluid every 60K. Dino Oil change every ~4K miles.
I have a 2011 nissan versa going at 110,000 miles. I've had it since it had 35,000 miles and I've never had any problems with it. The only thing I had to replace was the catalyc converter back at 85,000. Good little car!
Hi Scotty, I have a 2010 verse with 220,000 miles on it and it’s still going strong! I bought it brand new and have taken care of it... a great reliable car!
You're so correct Scotty. The CVT trans, are junk. My 2019 Versa rental was like an upholstered beer can with a radio. Thank you!
Lol!!!
Seriously though, got one as a rental on a rather windy day, scary to say the least😂
I own a 2016 Versa with the CVT transmission and it currently has about 140k miles on the original CVT transmission and no issues. From what I've seen the older generation CVT transmissions had more problems than the newer generation ones. I think an important part of keeping it going is changing out the CVT fluid every 30000 miles or so plus both filters that the CVT transmission comes with.
GenEmperor that’s incorrect. the older cvts that didn’t mimick shifts had less problems .
@@GenEmperor you've only got 140k miles on it though...

When I pulled the code it was showing a misfire, so since it has 161,000 miles I replaced all 4 plugs and coils, the misfire code went away was running good for about 3 days and then back into creep mode (no more then 1000 RPM and 35 mph), then the code that came back were cam sensor and crank sensor, throttle sensor, trans sensor. Seemed like the cam sensor would be the most likely since it controls firing timing if I am correct. So I changed the cam sensor and pushed it to make it fail and it wouldn't until 3 days later I pushed it hard out of a parking lot and it went into creep mode again. This weekend I am changing the crankshaft sensor. But one of the things I noticed is if I keep the RPMs at no more than 3000 it runs fine shifts fine builds up speed to 65 with no issues? What do you think?
These body versas are pretty good and reliable. My wife couldnt kill it lol she is quality control on cars...sensors suck on it. Engine though tough little bugger. The back seat had the most leg room out of any car i have ever sit more than a chevy tahoe lol is like sitting on a mercedes s class super roomy on the back. It surprised me.
Have the same car Nissan Versa Tiida 2008. & It has approx. 174,000 miles & runs like a dream ❤️

1.6L or 1.8L? Manual, 4AT, or CVT?
I have a cvt versa sl 2008 with 150k miles, it's run so nice, I love this car and have a descent sound with the subwoofer equiopement in the trunk

Finally my car is "Scotty Kilmer Approved"!
My 2010 Versa at 1,62,000 miles now. Original everything.
Yeah...and I have one that just turned over 1 trillion!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This Versa model comes in two types the S and the SL. S is 4 speed automatic while the SL is a CVT. Mine is an S or 4 speed automatic which Scotty is highliting on this video.
Komputar
My 08 versa is at 215k with minor engine mods added.
2011 Versa Sedan 1.8sl inherited from my father with 50k miles. Now has 103k miles. NO ISSUES. Just did regular maintenance on it (spark plugs, thermostat, radiator flush , pcv valve, radiator cap). Handles the roads (and potholes) of NYC like a real trooper!
We had good luck with a base '15 Nissan Versa (manual shift).
We bought it for $12k brand new, downsized with this car but we paid other bills off quickly. We took it on a few trips to Montreal and other places, was super easy to park in tight spots and got us around just fine. The main problem was it being horrible in the snow (just invest in snow tires) and the ride quality is rough.
I have this one, but EVEN BETTER, 1,800cc 6 SPEED MANUAL ! I LOVE IT
OMG, Scotty has finally reviewed my car :). I knew that he always hated Nissans but I was always wondering what he was thinking about this Versa with a 4-speed automatic tranny. There are videos showing this car with 300k miles still going strong with an original engine and transmission. From my experience the worst part in this car is it's muffler. The original one lasted only 4 years. Never buy cheap muffler for this car (you'll have to replace it every 2 years if you have salt on the roads). I ended up buying a stainless steel muffler (was only $50 more expensive) and got a lifetime warranty on it (written on the paper). A couple more week points in it: a central lock module in the driver's door which will stop opening the hatch door sooner or later. A rear window defroster may also die after 7-10 years of car use. Other than that, only oil changes, brakes and spark plugs every 100k miles. Would a perfect cheap commuter car/students car.
Igor Karpov this cars are taxis in Mexico and they last a loooooot
Just straight pipe it.
These Versas and Sentra are great little cars. About to cross 200k with almost no problems. Cheap, Great on gas, low taxes, no bells and whistles, cheap to maintain.
I watch his video to learn things and laugh while learning.
I love when Scotty rings that bell
Great video's Scotty 👍👍
On my second Nissan Cube and my wife has Nissan Pathfinder , we have no complaints; no problems with my cvt transmission and it has 160,000 miles
I bought a 2013 Cube last month that had 91,000 miles and heard about the problems with the Nissan CVTs after I bought and was worried about it. Makes me feel better that yours has 160,000 miles with no issues.
We gotta 2012 versa with no CVT... It's been Hella cheep to operate
I got the same year, Manual trans. So far just battery, oil, tires and filters. One recommendation to other owners of this car. Get brakes done by a pro unless you have the willingness to do a very good bleed on the system. My clutch started acting up after just doing a regular pad change/using C Clamp to push in the piston. Took about 6 months for it to work whatever junk I pushed into the hydraulic system out. I've heard from a Nissan tech that this is a common issue and usually they do a whole clutch kit to resolve it...glad I waited at this point.
I would kind of stay away from any pre-2019 model year Nissan because of the issues with the JATCO CVT's. Current Nissans seem to be a lot better luck with CVT reliability.
There are millions of Nissan's running trouble free on roads with over 100ks in their clocks with CVTs. JATCO is a world class trans company and even JEEP uses their CVTs. The problem is, Nissan was the first to use CVTs on a commercial basis in 2009 and obviously early use of new tech gives a lot of teething problems mainly because people didn't know how to treat CVTs. You abuse CVT and it punishes you! Dont overload, change special oil once 50k kms and you will get one of the best of auto technologies today.
Got our second manual tiida. First one was totalled after someone in an old range rover backed into it. They put it into r for race and got r for reverse. Immediatly afterwood went looking for a replacement.found another with more miles on it but manuals are not easy to find. Clutch went 6 months later. Replaced the bi metal clutch with a normal one. Cost 1200 for the clutch and 800 for work. Replaced a starter motor last year.
Love your vids Scotty, infact I love em so much........i could sit all day watching, thanks Sir......you are the main BOSS on youtube !
My stepbro had one of these turds and he put about 230k miles on it before some jackwagon ran a red light and flipped him off in the ditch. This car is a diamond in the rough.
I have an 08 Versa 4at with 215k on the clock,
*not all Renault based nissans are bad*
My Hyundai Santa Fe has the same problem with the spark plugs. Throttle body and intake manifold have to be removed to get to the back plugs.
Darren Wonders
Let me guess: you own a V6 Santa Fe & you're talking about removing the *the rear* sparkplugs
This guy changes his mind on nissan every hour 😂😂😂
Never forget this is still an entertainment Channel. Scotty makes money off his channel his advice must be taken with that in mind. He's selling entertainment videos. Not advice.
Different cars, different opinions.
I think as far as the newer ones go, he's kept the same opinion, and in many cases, regardless of brands. He's even gone on to say he wouldn't buy a newer Toyota with a CVT (and if you know Scotty, he's all about the Toyotas, but the ones that don't have a CVT).
It depends on the individual car and if you actually watched the video it wasn’t exactly high praise. Basically he’s saying this car is a decent, not good just decent buy for dirt cheap with very specific features and don’t expect much of you get one.
Sold the Nissan Tiida 1.6L 4 Speed Auto for 2500$ approx. Just bought today Nissan Versa Hatch Back US specs (2012 limited edition) 4Speed Auto. 223k on ODO. Clean car. Luv it ❤️❤️😍 the difference I noticed from the GCC Tiida car spec'd to the US spec'd Versa are more options all around cruise & volume control on steering, foldable rear seats & in-dash mp3 player ❤
I love mine!!... is 07 180+ miles... original .motor.. original... trans... n gas saver!!!
I just bought a 2015 versa today it has a 5 speed manual transmission
I prefer the manual, gives you more control and has a decent bit of acceleration in such a small engine. The tank takes you 350+ miles and costs about $30 to fill up (if not less) in the United States. It runs at about 35+ MPG in all conditions. I paid about $6850 with sales tax, a 6 month factory warranty, and a contract cancellation if anything went wrong. Without all the safety stuff, it would have run me just under 6 grand, but regardless, it was well worth it for the 76000 mile 2016 model year.
How about now ✨
@@adamon5577 It wasn't very reliable but I was lucky enough to get the expensive repairs done
I had an 07 Versa hatch. It was okay I only kept it for the 4 year lease. It was CVT. I would have kept it longer if it had been 4-speed or stick.
Had few early production flaws. Recall on something not labeled under the hood. A warped passenger airbag cover. And something not 'seated' properly in the front suspension at the factory in MX.
I priced tire pressure sensor valve stems once. Good thing my heart medication was up to date.
Only $30 a piece for aftermarket ones. Not sure if you need special equipment to properly install them though but if not it shouldn't be too bad to do it yourself.
I have an 09 nissan versa with a 6 speed manual and I have 108k miles on it and im the original owner from new. I have replaced parts in my driveway with hand tools and those parts were due to my abuse. I used my Bluetooth scanner and the only 4 codes were for tire sensors that I know aren't in the tire. When I bought that car I was told it had ABS but after 11 years I had my wheel hub bearings going bad from me going 120 mph in it, but Firestone said I needed hub bearings that are ABS based on the VIN and when I replaced them there was no sensor. I took the bearings back to the same dealership and it went nowhere.
Have had an 07 versa for 10 years now with close to 200k miles now, almost no problems other than rattling all the time haha

Does yours purr like a kitten?!, & when you slow down, you hear "ambulance sirens"?!
I have a 2008 Nissan Versa with 220,000 miles.
Recommend the 6 speed manual, best car I’ve ever owned.
First one I had was a 4 speed automatic 1.6. BULLETPROOF little car that took me across the country many times even with 100+ k miles.
Picked up a 2007 6 speed manual 1.8, most fun car I’ve owned and I’ve owned a 90 crx, countless civics, a drift spec Silverado with a 5.3, still that Nissan is my favorite.
I bought a 2008 Versa with the 6 speed manual. I got 203,000 out of it. I have to admit, it was the best car I have ever had. Very cheap to maintain. I wouldn't buy one without a manual, especially now with those imploding CVT transmissions
Daywalker 1
Ive already met someone whos already at 220k miles in '13 sentra, with minimal trouble. CVTs in truth are a double edge sword, but no,
*NOT ALL CVTS ARE LEMONS!*
@@MainMite06 No, you're right. Not all of them are bad. A few get through with little or no trouble. I worked at Nissan. If they aren't maintained, they will give you trouble, just like anything else that's neglected
How much would you price one at 167k miles? Thinking of getting one
@@MainMite06 No, you're right. There was a bad batch in the Rogues back in the day, and some Altimas, but the Versa and Sentras had little trouble, especially if maintained
I have one of these. Cheap and 4speed 1.8L engine 135HP. Just 6.0 litres per hundred KM at 110 KPH in country areas (39.2 Miles Per US gallon) city about 7.8 Litres per hundred. . No problems so far after 105,000 KM on the clock mixed country and city. Light on tyres - now on second set with Kumho tyres half worn.
Comfortable car, easy to drive 4 spd auto and quiet and very roomy for it's size as well as good performance.
Half hour to change all spark plugs or coil packs or both but have not done it yet as not needed yet. Not a hard job at all.
“The evil swines have the spark plugs hiding under the intake manifold.” 🤣🤣🤣
Those nissans are popular in my country. The only issue it has is the suspension, its pretty weak but parts are relatively cheap so you wont spend a small fortune.
You know, i really learn a lot with the inspection videos
My dad has a 2008 hatch but cvt blown at 85k!! I have a 2015 with a 5 speeds. I bought it new $12k out of the door with power windows amd locks. Now it has 95k on it and it has no problem at all!
The engine area is so clean.
Bought mine new in 2012, and 11 years and 73K miles later, it’s been good. A/C leaks, but I don’t really use it, so I haven’t repaired it. Spark plugs and valve caps were the first significant engine repair this past year. A known issue is that the throttle body can get gunked up. I’ve had it cleaned twice, and cleaning it every few years gives a noticeable performance boost. It actually has a surprising amount of cargo space-slightly less than a Honda Fit, without feeling cramped like a Fit.
The paychecks from Nissan have started coming in
I have a 2007 model hatch back 175000 miles did a tune up she runs great use it for door dash great mpg oh and its a 5 speed manual
Every Versa (ya know, always dark blue) went 150k+ before needing diagnosis to make it run.
Dead batteries, maybe an alternator, and suspension stuff.
Never had to "figure out" what was wrong with one. Ever.
Is it OK to buy a Nissan Versa with CVT in 2022? Not able to get the standard transmission car, so thinking of going for the CVT.
The intake manifold covering three of the spark plugs ! That's not cool. Stupid engineers.
Iridium plugs only need to be changed every 100k. It's going to be a while until you need to remove the intake.
Can have it off in five min. Not really that bad. Unless you have a misfire and you cant unplug coils to find it.
Mr. Mojo Risin
That's why you use a code scanner to detect the misfires,
Usually you'll find that the one ignition coil was fouled out by oil seeping into the spark plug holes..
Why on my 25 year old suzuki everything is easy to reach. All 4 spark plugs out in few minutes without removing anything else. Newer car repairability becomes worse and worse
@@springer-qb4dvOn some cars you have to remove intake manifold to even get to the plugs. I think when someone buys a used car they need to look at how easy it is to fix.
ive had my versa for 10 years , got with 14 miles out the dealer , manual transmission 122k miles and I've never had a problem , but the sensor problem is true that sensor popped up 2 years after i got the car
Interestingly second gen Versas were a downgrade, this 1st gen wasn't cheap enough to make it seems i think first gen was also related to pretty good Renault made compacts either Megane or Clio. Not bad car aside from weak and rust prone suspension so i would avoid ones from rust belt
