As someone who just moved back in with my mom after breaking up with my douchebag of an ex, your jokey monologue about the inner child hit my right in the feels
I’m a little sad you didn’t mention the scrapbook quotes! Every time you finish a level Sadie writes a caption for the picture of it. There’s a different one for every room! In the room where she moves back home they feel somber- “This room used to feel a lot bigger.” “My sister and I used to fight over this bathroom.” Here’s some little things I didn’t see you mention that I really loved about the game; - You mention she has a dreidel at the start, but what you don’t mention is that after the first level it disappears for the following three. In the Uni, Roommate, and Shitty Shit Boyfriend level, there’s no hint of Judaism anywhere. Then, after she moves back home and then into her own house, she has a menorah. It’s almost like she reconnected with her heritage. -The painting of the bird against the sunset (you put it in the living room in the last level) has the color scheme of the bisexual pride flag. This and the fact that Sadie’s second partner is a woman (or at least afab) is a tell that she’s bi ! -Right clicking on consoles, music players, and computers, will turn them on. You get an achievement for this, and you can also see the progression of time on the computer screens (the Uni level she’s using AIM, and in the last one she’s using discord) -You can get an achievement for rearranging Fuckface’s underwear drawer which I think is funny. Also, you can put the diploma in the closet as well, not just under the bed. I’m sure that’s very comforting. - Sadie stole something from her shitty ex’s house. Queen shit. (I’m not sure what it is exactly, its a little golden trinket, kinda looks like an egg) -Sadie has a pet beetle for a couple of levels. When he disappears, there’s an art piece you can put up of a beetle with angel wings and a halo. This is very sweet, but it’s also a very common thing among artists, done to cope with the loss of a pet. -placing the tiger and pig plushies next to each other gets you an achievement and a sticker of them grabbing hands. Its so fucking cute. -there’s an achievement for making her wooden model of a person dab and solving the rubiks cube. You get both by rotating them a couple of times. Thank you for the great video and review! It’s genuinely a shame you don’t have more subs.
There is so much I could have talked about but some of these I missed! I swear there must still be things in the game that people haven't found or realized yet, it's just so filled with secrets and details. I didn't think it fit anywhere in the video, but when I clicked on the gamecube and it turned on, I nearly froze lol I actually had no idea you could do it and it's stuff like this that made me really adore the game.
@@ember9361 yeah, fem would be more accurate since the partner wore a lot of fem-coded stuff and there is no clear answer about how they managed the baby
Grr!11!!!1!1!1!1! You pack the clothes wrong !1!1!1!1! All jokes aside, this was an entertaining video :) I never noticed some things, like the character probably being in Australia!
this made me want to tear the layer of paint off of my walls and timetravel to preserve my old loft bed. i think this is positive, i don't know, it is just fact. got so many pent up emotions about my room now you don't even KNOW
I just started watching your channel and your videos are amazing. Your Animal Crossing video let me understand why I stopped playing right after I completed the K.K Slider goal - so thank you for putting that into words! I’m excited for this video - I’ve been thinking about playing Unpacking for a while :)
Hi! I just wanted to leave a comment to say that I absolutely love your writing in these videos. This is just my second video so far. The first I watched was your Animal Crossing video but for the second time, your writing has touched me and had me teary eyed. I subscribed and I'm about to binge all of your videos so far. Keep going!!! These videos need to reach more people.
Glad to see a video about this game, i really enjoy it both for its story and the opportunity it gives us to self examine where wed put stuff. Also for the bf chapter i still take great delight in shoving all his things into as small a space as i can bc he makes me furious.
Very intriguing video. I heard about this game when it released, but quickly forgot about it and never looked too much into it. While apparently pretty short, the details included with each move-out is fascinating and you pointed out a lot of these details brilliantly. It is cool that while you're literally unpacking boxes, you're also unpacking the story and character - which I agree was most certainly the developer's intention. Great work!
Omg I just played this game two days ago for the first time! What a coinkydoink. Anyway, another great video. Love how everyone absolutely despises the boyfriend haha
This might be the best slow-burn game I've played. I grew up and live in Brissy and just had no fucking idea the game was based here, despite the "old Queenslander" style houses. Then I saw that bridge in the bf's apartment and it hit like a tonne of bricks. I was going through a breakup while living in the CBD and seeing that exact same bridge almost daily. Later when finishing the game, i couldnt shake this overwhelming feeling of sadness and envy at this couple's life. What about their life was I missing in mine? I could always be in a relationship, why was I jealous of these two women? I mean I guess I could never be a wom- ....oh. Oooooh. 😅
I put this on intending to get some cutting done while I listened along but you had me rapt the entire time. I should have expected this - it has happened with every one of your essays as they are all so good! Anyway I need to do some cutting out now whoops
I love this game so, so much. I was so sad when I finished!!. I genuinely have never played a game like this, the storytelling just through objects is just so intriguing and I was surprisingly emotional throughout as different items came and went, when she lived with that arsehole, when she found love again… I suspected she was queer from the very first level and I was SO happy when that was confirmed. Idk. I just… I love this game so much. I’ve played through it 3 times now and I desperately want a sequel 😭 Also thank you so much for this video, I thought I had picked out all the nuances and stuff from the game but you mentioned a thing or two I never knew, like I had no idea it was set in Australia! I had assumed the disability because of the cane for sure, I wonder if it was because of a sports injury or an illness or disorder taking over? 🤔 And I love that even though I’ve barely talked to anyone about this game, ALL of us are angry at the pretentious douchebag boyfriend 😡😡😡. The gameplay absolutely lends the idea that she was frustrated trying to fit her stuff and that he just… didn’t want to bother moving anything for her. Of course the kicker is not making room for her diploma but it’s the way she has to jam all her other possessions around his that is so frustrating too. I shoved as much of his stuff as I could away, into the closet when I could. I was so relieved when the next chapter started, even though I know she was upset. You’re right, this game is so unique and the storytelling is SO compelling despite literally never seeing any character until that very last shot. I couldn’t believe how quickly I became attached to Sadie (didn’t know the fandom had named her, nice to have a name), how much I celebrated her achievements and how emotional I felt when things were tough. I noticed you didn’t say anything about her job, I obviously knew she was going to be an artist of some kind but it took until the chapter before we saw her books to realize she was a children’s book illustrator (and author?). I thought that was so fun. I remember this last chapter being the most frustrating as to where we were allowed to place things, especially the stuff in the baby’s room. I had a lot of fun playing that one again with the placement rules turned off! I have to admit I cried a little at the end, but they were happy tears and I was just so touched by this game. Nothing like anything I’ve ever played, it’s so special to me
I love the fact that call the boyfriend a cabbage. Most Irish insult ever
He is though, isn't he?
@@TheIrishDino he _really_ is.
There’s a lot to unpack from this video :)
This game is so underrated

i'd say femme, not afab since we don't know if she was assigned f or m at b
She also stole one of his hoodies, which made me super happy haha

just writing to say that i love your videos. you have such a melancholy, yet witty perspective on so many great topics. please never stop.
Thank you so much! Comments like this make me so motivated to keep making videos :)
This all makes so much sense!

Bro thank you!
Man i love putting my pc in the bathtub it gives the water a electrified taste to it.

Thank you! Your support really helps so much, I'm so glad that people enjoy my videos :D

With the boyfriend room, you could also say that it’s “overwhelming” And constricting, there’s almosr no breathing room
Waaahhh I never expected to get so emotional over the ending 🥹
Thank you very much!
The point you made about the boyfriend is super true.
And I'm glad you liked the ending :)
