I like that we stripped free will from the villagers and that we can place objects on the land and terraform it. I love how customizable it's become. I agree that villagers should reflect their personality more though, I wouldn't mind them making jokes at my expense or being ACTUALLY pissy at me if I left for a long time

New Horizons is the best worst Animal Crossing and it really sucks because it just increases the chances Nintendo doesn't learn from this failed experiment.

It’s uncanny that you can replace new leaf with twilight princess and NEw horizons with twilight princess, and 90 percent of the criticism apply. It’s almost as if Nintendo got a memo from the powers that be telling them to make games less fun.

NH completely destroyed any interest I had in this series. Won't be getting the next one.

I was stunned they stopped updates and dlc so soon after the games release. Like holy shit they had a cash cow in this game and dropped the ball faster than Rockstar did with RDR2

i understand why they didnt do this, but i would have liked if instead of travelling vendors, other villagers came on daytrips to your island. easy way to justify having more and larger shops! the higher level your village is maybe more come! would have made the game feel more alive (as long as they had unique dialogue) and maybe a cute way to let previous villagers visit again

This video is from a year ago but you talking about how people pay real money for a virtual character just reminds me of all those gacha games where people pay real money for digital characters or even other digital stuff like clothing or skins. While the lock down could have expanded on that, for some reason this is also a very common thing or a common feeling for people for some reason.

You can tell their main priority was maximizing playing hours. Like at every turn, they’ve made it so you have to do things in the most time consuming way possible

Yeah spot on. New Horizons gave us more customisation than ever before but also took away the soul of the game. The villagers were way more generic and the events were toned down. I loved researching through December on New Leaf what each villager wanted for Toy Day and having to remember each one. NH in comparison was way simpler on Toy Day which was disappointing as one example.

My grandmother passed away before I was able to play my first animal crossing game. I wish I could have played with her.

It sucks the European version can't interact with the American one. I tried using a qr code only for it to say it couldn't work.

I never made it to K.K. Slider. My sister played more than I did, but I was not able to transfer island representative status. Unreasonably user-unfriendly and damned the island to stagnation (more than New Horizons already keeps your island in stasis)

13:40 this whole section is why one of my biggest hopes for the next Animal Crossing game is literally just a couple more personality types, and some species specific dialogue. That's all I want

hopefully i haven't hooked up on buying Switch and haven't eaten such Nintendo sh*t. i tried to search why it's so popular, a game which is like for little ones, why parents play, why old and young play it because what i see it's very snobby boring and sipping your time.

I just fear for the next game. This game did so well I don’t see why they won’t continue going down this route. The series peaked with New Leaf as it struck the perfect balance between customisation while keeping that warm animal crossing feel

Been playing since GameCube, and Animal Crossing is one of the laziest, unimaginative, and neglected series. So much lost potential because Nintendo refuses to expand on this IP. Whenever they add something, they take a lot. For a game that encourages creativity, they really love putting so many limitations. It's not that Nintendo's scared to add to the series, it's just that they don't feel like they need to in order to be successful, and it's true! I implore everyone to check out MySims and MySims Kingdom on the Wii (and Switch now) and see how interesting all the characters are and how interactive the world and decorations are. This is what AC should have been and more.

i still hop on my 3DS and play new leaf to check in to see if my favourite villagers are still there. sometimes i get sucked in for a couple of days, reliving the nostalgia. my favourite villager is flora (the flamingo) and she lives in my town, i refuse to let her leave

What makes any game fun or interesting is consequence. Good and bad. ACNH don’t have ANY consequence for anything you do or say. You’re a marry sue, perfect and can do no wrong. And that’s BORING even if it looks pretty. Personally I play for a few month straight and then … restart..?

I mean my main criticism of new horizons was that on release it had less content and things to do overall the fact people without internet now just outright can't enjoy like 80% of the games current content doesn't help either? Unlike New leaf where I can pick up my 3ds and without internet have access to like 98% of the content just as part of the cartridge? Not to mention the fact that New horizons STIWW DOESN'T HAVE AS MUCH CONTENT AS THE PREVIOUS GAME?! Thats kinda crazy to me! Like the graphics aren't even all that good looking back on it I would've preferred more content in the game overall and improvements and more content then new leaf over as much graphical inprovements? Just less things to do and pursue overall? its TOO easy to get a perfect island rating something you actually had to work hard to obtain and then MAINTAIN for rewards in New Lead which ultimately kept you engaged in the later stages of New leaf? But New horizons fails to keep me engaged at all? The minute I got my 5 star island within a month of playing the game and after realizing there were only gonna be those 4-5 events I just left? And went back to New leaf?

Interesting video, but tbh I have Animal Crossing New Horizons specifically to play with family and maybe friends.

I just feel the game is limited in a whole lot of ways, especially for me the mechanics are way too complicated and restrictive and the controls are frustrating for me and everything is so fucking slow, just not my type of game and it’s the first animal crossing I’ve played it honestly just made me stay away from this saga

New Horizons is a good game. I would say it’s not a good Animal Crossing game though. It’s gone from life simulator to diorama builder. A nice diorama builder where you can make some very pretty dioramas mind you but a diorama builder nonetheless.

as someone who used to play animal crossing new leaf a lot and has never played new horizons, i like the idea of actually changing how your island looks with terraforming, in new leaf you could only pick one map and stick with that for the rest of the game

a big reason i feel is overlooked in the video and mostly mentioned in passing is that there's a lot of content both on launch and still now post updates missing/cut from previous entries

I’m not going to pretend to understand the logistics of creating video games or writing the dialogue, but it seems like they could’ve created two dialogue modes to appease children and older people. Kid mode is more sanitized and everyone is friendly, the version we have now, and the adult mode adds in the sass and rudeness that players were accustomed to. Boom! Problem solved lol

Reddit is the worst out of those 3 by the way, and I won't elaborate. Discord is the least bad, 4chan is in the middle (but could be the best, or worst, depending on the board).

The one thing I strongly and utterly disagree with is having villagers move away. After painstakingly design the island as City core, European core or any theme a player could think of, which I have spent hundred of hours stacking and terraforming with their house blending in with the environment In mind. To have them left me a letter in their wake, on the empty spot would have me fuming. This is a feature I hope Nintendo would ignore. It’s a welcome change for me.
