I also think the announcement of the end of pocket camp was so sudden! They just casually dropped a bomb and dipped, I wonder if all the attention is really on another big project..! :o And you make a good point that there are no ads, it really doesn't feel like some mobile game where you have to watch ads every other minute.. "Hey! Watch this 30 second short ad to shake another fruit tree!" Can you even imagine? Basically, it's a really nice game that you don't have to spend any money on and still enjoy it comfortably, still can't believe it's been that long since it came out! 13:05 Btw this part is cinematic peak, I shed a tear
I'm hoping it's the case that we are getting a new AC mobile game to accompany the next game! I think it'd be in good hands assuming it's the same team, plus i'd love to see how they'd link a mainline game with whatever new thing they give us! and yes, the neremik2 cgi budget truly knows no limits
I completely disagree. They are doing a whole finale ceremony. You can send gifts with messages to your friends that give special cushions. They gave us a memorial tree that will grow when you move to Complete, a party in a few days and a mystery gift. They are going above and beyond what most mobile games would ever do.
@@Just_Fungus Yeah! I dont mean the dipping part so literally, just meant it was so sudden, I wouldnt predict that in 2024 pocket camp would just end!~ They are doing many things for the players right now! Its super sweet.
watching this video while playing it right before getting shut down.. I really like pocket camp and I hope that if they are planning a new title in the Animal Crossing series, that the pocket camp team will be involved and that it will be a healthy mix of pocket camp, new horizons and maybe older titles ♥
the problem with pocket camp for me that made it seem greedy was the stinginess of leaf tickets. i played the game daily since launch for the first few years but they started so drastically removing leaf tickets from events and it just felt insulting. in the early days you'd get 100 leaf tickets or more from an event, and now you get ten. ten! if even that. i stopped playing the game but missed it every day. i'm so excited for the paid version, to be able to actually enjoy it again
The fact that i was playing it while i was watching this says a lot and i remember playing it before in high school even before i was a fan of the franchise says a lot because was this game that made me wanna play the New Horizons
@@Neremik2That is exactly the reason, and I don't get why people still don't understand this. Sanrio content with animal crossing has always been limited.
There most probably was a downwards line in active players, but I believe what made them 'pull the plug' on the version we now have is that there must have been a sudden big loss of average active players. Whether that would have been FTP or paying players, idk, but it probably wouldn't be very profitable in the long run to keep this version going. That said, I am satisfied with the alternative. Although I think the real price is a bit much (€20,00 after 31-1-2025), I do think however that the game is worth your time if you like decorating. I'll probably get the complete version when they do drop it for €9,99.
That makes sense! I imagine the new version will make more money than keeping the current one going, though I'm still surprised by how sudden the announcement was!
I'm enamored by your grape trees because I'm so used to my lychees that they were giving me a little whiplash lol Fellow since launch player here! I'm in the party of leaf ticket hater but mostly in conjunction with the cookies, because when I'd do a 5 cookie pull for 250 leaf tickets and get the SAME furniture item all those five times, the free leaf tickets accumulated over time and extra pity stamp are not enough to compensate my emotional damage for 5 of a stupid rug I didn't want. :'D I no joke have 5 Cinnamoroll tea trays from when I was pulling the Sanrio cookie, and I remembered wanting to cry a little when I got my 5th one. I took a really long break after I stopped playing for a few years but now I'm back playing every day until shut down, and I've spent all 850 of my leaf tickets to set myself free
Owch! Haven't got that unlucky with cookies myself, but I do hear you on the stamps! Needing 10 cards for a 5 star item is devious, but hopefully the system in Pocket Camp Complete is a little more friendly with the drop rates or pity system. I'd say the earlier levels in the game were more generous with leaf tickets since you needed less to rank up and get 10 of them, but getting past level 100 or so they do start to stall out if my memory is right. Again, I imagine they'll be more generous in the new app!
I was very unhappy with the payed currency in pocket camp and I've played it a lot. Like most games with micro transactions you can enjoy the game perfectly fine without money but the 'premium' features are constantly shoved in your face and getting all items in a gacha set is almost impossible unless you wait a year for an event to come around again. Having a micro transaction free version where you can reasonably obtain all items and features is a blessing.
I feel that! As the game went on, it definitely felt like they did try to nudge you more with paid features as either permanent additions to the UI or as prompts when you booted the game up. Thankfully, that won't be something we have to deal with in the new version!
It is! I don't think anyone expected it to be as supported as it was when it first launched, so to be in the state where there's 8 years of content to now re-run in the paid app is super impressive!

Oooh, I feel that. I've played the game since launch and I do think that assuming that people who have an issue with the monetization must have never played it and have been influenced by an image of Tom Nook that I assure you most people haven't ever seen before is missing the mark. Right now if you want access to everything the game is offering you need to pay for I believe 3 different full-priced subscriptions. For a bit I was under the impression that it was one but no, there's the helper one, the cookie one, and the journal one. Leaf tickets are fairly common, yes, but you will almost surely not complete a single cookie using only LTs you get for free. Some people are fine with this monetization model, some aren't, but yeah, I think that it's mostly only people who actually play the game that are bothered by this.
Some fair points! The aim of that section was to cover on a little about how Nintendo didn't do the game too many favors by making it easy to hate from an outsider's perspective. Especially in 2017, a lot of people were averse to playing mobile games because of the notion they'd ram ads or microtransactions down your throat, so I think in the aspects I mentioned in the video that Nintendo could've done things a little differently to give people a better first impression. That said, you're entirely right about the impact of the monetization on the people who did decide to pick up the game. I always found Leaf Tickets to be abundant enough to where I could save for a cookie and have it not feel like a day in/day out chore, but with how Pocket Camp handled announcing re-runs and new event items, it did make it hard to know if a set I desperately wanted was coming up, which would naturally push me toward buying leaf tickets since I had less time to get them for free. You're also on point about the subscriptions, I think having 3 was pushing it a bit, especially the $8 cookie plan. The other two I could justify since they cost way less, but for being the most expensive plan that one really didn't land the mark. As you touched on, I think having all three bundled into a single one as a reduced cost would've been a better way to handle it. Question: Do you think I can transfer data after the game shuts down? I just started playing just to get the items for new horizons, but if I keep playing and get attached but don't want to buy the complete version right away, will I be able to still transfer my data? I don't want to get attached, and then all my save data doesn't transfer, and all that attachment is gone. Would it just be better to get the game after it's shut down as complete? I dunno, but i want to ask someone who played it more than 10 minutes just to get far enough to get the new horizons items.

@@Neremik2 pocket camp was banned in Belgium and the Netherlands all the way back in 2019, for the monitization, yes. Not sure if this person is referring to those laws, or if there are new ones in the EU as a whole. I'm from belgium so very excited since all of the content that came after 2019 is brand new to me! I immediately bought it when i found out about it a few weeks ago. Definitely understand the people who spent money on it over the years though.
Also, great video!!
@@lnnvt I think I remember that making headlines! Hopefully people from those countries are able to enjoy playing from where they left off once the paid app releases, there's been a lot of good content added since!
Pocket Camp is nothing but a cheap, boring cash grab that took away from the mainline console series. Imagine putting hundreds of dollars into this garbage only to then have to spend $10-$20 more to own the "offline"edition. 🤦🏻♂️
